“Unpleasant taste and smell.”

★☆☆☆☆

written by HarperHays on 26/12/2023

Very many years ago, my mother bought tinned steak. Opened, it looked like steak, smelled like steak, and tasted like steak. This has an unpleasant smell and looks like something scraped from the pavement. If it started off a steak before processing, I have no idea what Prince's do to it, to result in something so bad. Over the 4-day Christmas period, I ran out of something for a quick meal, so opened a tin. Used half of it, and threw the remainder out for the birds. Even crows turned their beaks up at it!

“Absolutely awful! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Dgrumps on 10/04/2021

Shockingly poor for a branded product.Im a lorry driver and heat my own food up at the end of the day. I thought this would be good with some tinned potatoes and peas. It was just terrible, a can full of gristle. It is never steak, just cheap nasty trimmings. If I could give it a zero rating I would have. Its not cheap at £3 plus a can either. Do not buy this product, just discusting!

“Worse than supermarket own brand dog food”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Skyeb453 on 12/11/2019

I am astonished they are permitted to call this steak. It is so bad there are not words in the English language I can even use to justify how disgusting this product it. It is not steak. It is processed slop. It smelt like the worst dog food you can imagine. Horrendous in the extreme. Public health should investigate this company. Supermarkets that stock this item should be ashamed.

“IT USED TO BE STAKE BUT NOW ITS DISGUSTING ORANGE SLOP...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by reddaybluenight on 19/06/2016

I had a tin and was very disgusted to the taste and the amount of chunks of fat which i dont rember any meat being there.Princess tinned steak is nomore now than orange horrible gravy with fat lumps.Im disgusted that it used to be tinned steak in gravy and now is orange yuk with lumps of fat costing 2 pounds fifty price tag.Someone wants sueing.I dont like the thought that iceland is selling this rubbish and other supermarkets. If you want the closest to the old version of princess tinned stake you can buy goblin tinned steak from farmfoods for a pound or less a tin which is what princess tin steak used to be like.

“I wouldn't give it my dog ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by RayanMcLean on 04/02/2016

I gave one star ,so l can tell how disgusting this princes stewed steak really is . In my opinion it should not be for sale . I don't even want to give it one star . I've made a pie with this product today ,and it ruined our family meal . It was tasteless rubbish . The princes name always meant quality ,so what has gone wrong . I'm off to the butchers and make it from scratch . Just off out for late tea ,after the appalling beef slop l dished up from princes ,all ended up in the bin ,waste of money .

“Absolute rank stuff!!”

★☆☆☆☆

written by GargraveBantam on 19/01/2016

Used to love this tinned meat. Chunks of tender meat in a nice gravy. Bought 2 tins to make a cheap pie, and it was like the tins of dog food without the chunks. I didn't find 1 lump of meat, and won't be buying it again!!!

“gravy with a bit of stewed steak”

★☆☆☆☆

written by KrishPatterson343 on 16/08/2015

I have tried other brands over the years, as they are much cheaper. However they contain a high proportion of gravy, so by and large I stick to Princes. However it now seems that they have not only accepted the idea, but excelled in it. The tin of Princes stewed steak that I opened an hour ago was a minimum of 60% gravy - yes two thirds of the tin were slush. On this basis even Tesco is better value!!

“new resipie is just vile”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MASGIB on 09/05/2014

I was a huge fan of this product, they changed to a new recipie it is vile so much so that I contacted Princess to urge them to rethink they asked the batch number (so much for listening) so I tried it again a few months later it was just as bad. I warrent that an accountant is behind this change, price driven!

Could not agree more. The meat was tough and chewy and covered
in grisle making it inedible. Gave it to my dog in the end, about all its
fit for. I think I will stick to John West Steawed Steak, who really does
know what Stewed Steak should be like.

“Rich and tasty!”

★★★★★

written by steaklover69 on 15/09/2011

Extremely rich and tasty. You can tell that only the finest cuts of beef have been carefully selected for this steak. I would recommend it to anyone. The gravy is simply divine! I've even started using it on other meals such as my Sunday roasts too. I strongly advise nay sayers to give this product another chance as you are sadly mistaken!

So sorry to completely disagree. I used to love Princes and John West stewed steak. I've just had some Princes stewed steak and frankly it was disgusting. Lumps of jelly type of offal in it and also bits of what I can only describe as bits of pipework.. This was NOT NICE and all I can say about Princes stewed steak is.......if I'd wanted my stewed steak like this I would have bought Casserole brand which is absolutely revolting.

Quite simply the finest tinned product i have ever had the pleasure of indulging in. All you non believers out there, you need to get out of Marks & Spencers and take a step back into the real world.

“Change in ingredients ”

I used to love Princes stewed steak but it has changed,it is now tasteless and has more gristle than meat. Not impressed at all.Maybe this is why our local Tesco and Morrisons no longer stock it.

Clearly they have found a way to produce it cheaper to maximise profit
Back in early 2011 I would of said it was the finest product but now it is full if fat and even frequently has large pieces of what appears to be rubber tubing that is actually lagre pieces of Veins or Arteries

“Change of recipe”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 19/07/2011

Having eaten Princes Stewed Steak for more than 40 years, I have always liked the product until now. My latest meat pie was ruined by a change in their recipe to include Onion Powder. I am totally allergic to onion and was physically sick for over 2 hours because of this. Their is nothing on the labeling to indicate that the recipe had changed, therefore no need for me to check the ingredients. When I complained to them about this, their reply was totally inadequate and uncaring. So therefore I will not be buying any Princes products in the future.

“This steak used to be one of the best but the quality...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by teddyteddy on 17/03/2011

This steak used to be one of the best but the quality has been getting worse. A recent purchase from Sainsbury's resulted in me having to throw the contents away as it was disgusting. 15% gristle and what looked like offal, even the cat would not touch it and why they use excessive amounts of tomato is beyond me. I returned the empty tin,(as suggested on the label if you were not satisfied), 2 weeks ago as have not even had a letter the curtousy of an acknowlegment. Never again! Bring back good old Irish Casserole Tinned Steak, it was the best!

written by on 05/01/2011

The only way I eat Princes Stewed steak is by mixing it with a tomato based sauce, and having it with pasta. Weird, I know, but it tastes delicious. I would never, however, consider eating it by itself. Not a quality meal. It is one of the best brands of stewed steak.

I suppose if if mash it up with the potatoes that you won't see all the gristle and offal that they use. You must be mad to buy this "DOG FOOD"!!
