Good Points: Great all round PDA

Bad Points: Call quality can be poor

General comments: As a Mac user I was a little unsure of getting a PDA knowing full well that there would be compatibility issues between Windows Mobile and OS X. However I was prepared to cope with this for the functionality of a phone, texting, push e-mail, integrated calendar, contacts, camera, camcorder, oh and an mp3 player... and I have yet to be disappointed!

With purchase of a third party software, "Missing Sync" for a tenner, I had the Hermes sync'd to my G5 and I was up and running. Address Book merged with Contacts, iCal with Calendar and even managed a few playlists from iTunes into the Hermes' Windows Media Player.

The Hermes' touchscreen and handwriting recognition is good, but for those typing moments, the slide out keyboard works a treat. It's hard to separate the operating system from the phone itself, but push e-mail has been a godsend as has the calendar - smooth synchronisation ensures notes are transfered between PDA and Mac with no loss.

My only criticism so far is the call quality which can fade occasionally, but the speakerphone provides a far clearer sound.

As my first venture into the world of PDAs I feel I have made an excellent start with the HTC Hermes - and a little advice for UK customers, try T-Mobile for unlimited browsing, e-mail and a great text and minutes bundle.

Summary
An extremely well-equipped Pocket PC PDA-phone, Dopod has made sure that the 3G-enabled 838 Pro balances features with power so it doesn't leave you hanging when you need to access applications like Skype. Due to its size and weight, however, you'll need

Pros
Range of connectivity options including 3G and HSDPA ; slide-out QWERTY keypad ; scroll wheel ; support for Bluetooth stereo (A2DP)

Cons
Chunky size ; heavy ; microSD expansion slot

Although the 838 Pro bears some resemblance to the 838, it is powered by a 400MHz Samsung stacked CPU with 128MB ROM and 64MB SDRAM. This is a significant improvement on the 838, which only has a TI OMAP 850 195MHz processor. This makes accessing applicat

Orange SPV M3100 - 3G Smartphone
8 Sep 2006

Summary
The best Windows Mobile smartphone available - simple as that.

Verdict
Orange missed the boat slightly by not offering a competitor to the T-Mobile MDA Vario, but it has made up for that with the SPV M3100. Taking the best features from the SPV M5000 and the Vario, the M3100 is feature packed, has unprecedented connectivity

I have been a Sony P900 user for over two years, and was very confused if I should go with Sony P990i, O2 XDA series, Nokia N series or try the lesser brand - Dopod 838pro. I liked what I saw in the shop and went for the Dopod - I'm glad I made the choice

Samsung i900 Omnia
22 Dec 2008

This phone is not user friendly enough for me personally, takes too much time to make calls, text or look up addresses. Highly overrated as this henders my ability to do business and follow up.
Over priced fancy phone that is good for the person that isn't on the go or in a hurry. If you want a phone that is easy to use this isn't it.

Nokia N95
1 Jul 2007

When these mobiles work they are very good, but how long do they work for??, Many customers are on their 2nd or 3rd handset, within 6 months of distribution 10 - 20% of customers will have returned this mobile.
Nokia now seems to use the public as the testers, this is not good enough and I have had at least 10 various Nokia mobiles in my time.

i900 Omnia is the 1st Samsung i have ever had and i will not be rushing to get another one. Can't see the screen outside in sunlight, it freezes regularly, need to use the stylus to make a call apart from your 4 favourite people. Won't connect to my TomTom (710) i had to buy a nokia for this.

BlackBerry Pearl 8100
15 May 2007

I am probably going to return the Blackberry Pearl during the fourteen day trial period simply based on the reception quality. I think phone manufacturers are forgetting that it is a phone first and are too busy working on the camera, MP3 or organizer feature. I really like the email and if I travelled more would place more importance on this function.
