“An expensive rust bucket!!!”

The freezer door and right hand side panel have numerous tiny rust spots, rendering the item disgusting to look at. Hotpoint are not interested, and as the colour is linen I cannot replace the door easily as the colour is obsolete. I also have a linen colour Hotpoint washer/dryer and I have had a lot of problems with this as well. I would never, ever buy anything Hotpoint again, and would never recommend to anyone. (read more)

We had this freezer from new for 5 years and we expected better from Hotpoint. We were experiencing problems from the start and was told that it was our fault for opening the fridge door! But it was under warranty so we took the repair Three visits from a repair guy and he replaced for free a part from Hotpoint. There must a have been a design fault from the start. We could paper a room with the receipts we've had from repairing this awful appliance. It makes loud 'cracking' noises and loud shuddering bangs from the base which the last repair man said was the motor hitting the side of the freezer.It started the day we bought it but stupidly as it was under warranty, instead of asking for a replacement we were talked into keeping it as it was covered.At last we can afford to dump it and buy a new one.We would NEVER buy another Hotpoint appliance. We had exacly the same problem! awful from the start. We had a replacement model and this still made loud banging noises every few hrs and would wake us in the night!
We had to put up with this but still had 3 repair call outs for fan and leaking freezer.
The whole thing has now died and im really looking forward to our new LG fridge freezer. Will never buy Hotpoint again.

We owned this machine for six years and were so disappointed with it. From day one it made loud cracking noises which didn't sound right. The bottom compartment of the freezer regularly iced up and as a separate problem, the unit kept leaking water into the floor.
A week ago it stopped working and frankly we were delighted to see the back of it. We chose a different manufacturer.

I have had the FFA90 for 8 years from new not a single problem, only replaced 2 light bulbs in 8 yrs. I think it is now close to its working life. Icing up in the freezer at the bottom, defrosting. I am not sure if I will get it repaired. Its been worth every penny. (read more)

I am amazed at the reviews where people are saying "Had from new then 3 months in, leaking, icing up..." Get it repaired under warranty!! I did. Not had any problems since. It has come with 12 months all in warranty and parts only for the remaining 4 years. However, the repair was so quick, Hotpoint let me have the repair for free.
I have not had to replace ANYTHING within the fridge.
Yeah, it's been okay and fridge like and done it's job.

I've had this Fridge Freezer since 2002 and it has worked brilliantly. Over the past 8 years, I have had to replace the bottle shelf and the salad drawers have recently cracked (due to overfilling on my part). Other than that I really can't complain about this appliance at all. I am now replacing it due to kitched refitment but otherwise I'd have kept it. Maybe newer versions are not built as well? Exactly the same as most previous comments. Poor quality materials, cracked drawer runners, broken shelves, constant icing up and/or pools of water on floor. No nearly 5 years old it keeps deciding to to stop working. switch off and on again, works foe a day or two then stops again.
Will never buy Hotpoint again also had bad experience with a Hotpoint washing machine before.

Why on earth did I spend so much money on this thing (Hotpoint FFA90)when all it does is cause me grief.
The capacity is really good but now it's just more room for ice to form. Everything in my fridge (yes, the fridge, not the freezer)is frozen rock solid - milk, eggs, lettuce, everything - and I'm fed up of wasting so much stuff.

Bought this Hotpoint FFA90 25 months ago. I have replaced the milk drawer already, the fruit & veg drawers twice!, & the light bulb twice. Just after replacing these spares, the motor packed up.
I am insured for food loss, but I will never, never buy a Hotpoint again.
I have had the unpleasant task of disposing of smelly fish, mouldy meat and sour soup as I cook & shop to freeze, as a single working mum. I have to arrange disposal of this item from a lower ground kitchen.

Excellent energy efficiency, which is easily adjusted on the front display. Lots of space inside both sections. Milk tray broke after a year but we have been overfilling it. Hotpoint FFA90 is a good fridge freezer that adds space in height so you dont need to burden the kitchen with an unsightly 'American style' fridge freezer. (read more)

Very loud bangs and cracks from my Hotpoint FFA90. When you unpack it there is a sheet of paper telling you noises are "normal". No-one would buy this product if they could hear the level of noise in advance. The cracks make you think someone has hit your window with a stone.
The tray for milk cartons broke.
Lots of ice forms under the bottom freezer drawer and puddles form on the floor in front of the fridge and our wooden floor is starting to buckle.
I will not buy Hotpoint again.

Our Hotpoint FFA90 went wrong just within guarantee period, repaired, then went wrong a month later and yes, you've guessed it, outside guarantee period. This resulted in huge call-out bill and Hotpoint refused to pay up on insurance for lost food. Now it has failed completely and as I write this am looking for a new Fridge/Freezer from another manufacturer! Drawers also break far too easily. (read more)

Bought this Hotpoint FFA90 expecting it to last 10 years+ like my last hotpoint but was sadly mistaken. Salad trays and door handle broken on arrival but replaced by hotpoint. Since then I have had to replace both the salad trays and the milk tray in the door. The inside of the fridge is cracked in several places but we have never damaged it and now the floor fills up daily with a large puddle of water and the freezer is full of ice. AVOID. (read more)

I know the fridge/freezer is at least 5 years old and they did not experience any problems at all with it, there are no rust marks or damage to any part of it and apart from the noise (which i`m still getting used to) it seems to be ok.

Stops working on a monthly basis needing best 48 hours defrost
Problems with defrost, needs defrosted every month! So not as frost-free as they say.
Engineers called of on the day if repair or awaiting spare parts for 5 months since the last call, and this is a 3rd call since two years ago!
I was even advised that the quality of their products at present is not as good as before hence there is so many issues with them! Pity I was not told that...

Purchased original FFA90 for 499.00 from Comet, no Hotpoint back up because of this it was up to Comet. Internal skin in freezer cracked where drawers slid in and out. Stopped working when 6 months old writing off all the contents of the freezer, the fancy alarm system never indicated any problem. My Hotpoint FFA71 fridge/freezer is rusting on outside at bottom of doors. Hotpoint said there is nothing they can do about it. It was bought in about April 2006. This is the first fridge I have had with rust problems and I am 70 so I have had a good many fridges in my time. They offered to send someone out but at my expense. I don't think I can recommend Hotpoint fridges.

My Freezer is rusting too. First had black spots on door ... thought little boy had been painting at first but wiping didn't work! Found out they were rust spots. Since then rust has crept all along the bottom of the freezer. Had engineers out but "warranty doesn't cover rust!" eventually got a new door fitted ... this keeps slipping and doesn't shut properly! Also had bought matching fridge... this keeps flooding with water and also is rusting. According to engineer this is my fault because I put things near the back of the shelf in the fridge ... apparently I should only use the front half of the shelf! Basically the stuff is useless in my opinion; not fit for purpose ... wouldn't touch Hotpoint again with a barge pole. (Also had problems with washer dryer but that's another story!)

We thought we had rats and had pest control out only to find when we moved the fridge freezer forward to look under the floor boards the damn thing started making noises like something was trying to escape from it. Purchased the FFA90 13 months ago. 3 weeks after 12 month warranty the fridge began to warm up. The engineer ( £89-£98 call out ) informs my wife that the freezer liner has split and of course this is unrepairable. We can purchase insurance from them to replace new for old @ £14 per month.

We purchased the Hotpoint FFA90 in August 2003, it is very noisy, it creaks, moans and bangs! At times it sounds as though some noisy spirit possesses it, but we are fortunate the kitchen is away from the rest of the house, so it doesn't effect normal living, i.e. sleeping, watching TV, listening to music etc!
My main concern is not about the noise, but something VERY DANGEROUS, which Hotpoint customer service doesn't give a damn about.

I agree entirely with this and other reviews. This fridge-freezer is noisy and unreliable, and the frost-free facility does not work. Ours regularly spills water from the freezer onto the floor. Exactly the same has happened to our bottle-shelf - it is obviously underspecified for the weight it has to carry. The freezer drawers are as bad. Hotpoint don't care. (You can buy a spare much more cheaply from espares.com than you can from Hotpoint.)

However, the customer service at Hotpoint is diabolical if anything needs fixing. Although you get "free replacement parts for up to 5 years", it costs £96 for an Hotpoint specialist to come out and check out the problem.

We have just dumped our fridge (less than a year old). Our new fridge has not given us one problem, and it is so quiet that we can not even tell it is on!!

I totally agree. I am having to form out for a new fridge freezer, when really I don't need to a mine does work, but it is so unsightly in the kitchen. It's supposed to be silver in colour but is rusted quite bad on both doors to he point were people that come round to my house have said OMG!whats happened to your fridge. I was a buyer of hotpoint for many years, but never again.
