“Simply the best”

I have had a few dogs visit these kennels over the years and for each animal 5 star has adapted for their needs. I have boarded old sick dogs who needed medication and young puppies who are more children than pets. They look after them so well and The dogs are well exercised. My dogs have never had to be dragged out of the car because they consider the kennels an exciting place. Found this boarding kennels after searching for a while online. We live about 30 minutes away but it was the only kennels that had space left for my dog at short notice, but am i glad that i found them. I was a bit nervous as i had never left my labrador before and she is only 8 months old. The place was spotless and very modern and clean, and the owners were lovely and spent time talking to us, putting my mind at ease. We have been using 5 Star since our red setter was a puppy. she is nine years old now.She seems to love going to this kennels and always looks well fed and cared for. Most importantly she never looks stressed. The kennels seem to have improved every time we go there.It is enormously better run than by the original owners several years ago ,there is no comparison ! It was the first time my 2 sprollies were guests at 5* this year and I would thoroughly recommend them. The kennels are spotless and facilities truly first class. Upon my return both my dogs had been very well looked after, they were both happy and very clean! The owners have definately got this right with lots of dedication and passion to each individual pet. I am so happy that I have found somewhere that my pets enjoy going and also the peace of mind of not having to worry whilst away. (read more)

“Everything is great at 5 Star Kennels ”

We have been boarding our dog with 5 Star for 2 years and we always do this with the confidence that she will be looked after very well and be returned to us as if she has also been on holiday. The owners are very clearly devoted to their lodgers and our dog is exercised and cared for in the best possible way. The rates are reasonable and we leave our dog at 5 Star knowing she will return a happy dog. (read more)

I was quite nervous about leaving my two dogs - an excitable Red Setter and huge (and obstinate) Old English Sheepdog - as the only other time they've ever been left at a kennel they both went on hunger strike! Our Golden Retriever Max is 9 and we have been using 5 Star Kennels for the past 3 years on moving to Felsted. The owners always seem to treat him as if he is one of there own dogs. We pay Angela to groom Max before we collect him and he always comes out better looking than when he went in, she does a wonderfull job on such a thick coat. I would have no hesitation in recommending 5 Star and have already done so.

5Star is excellent for dogs and owners! Our 3 sensitive Lurchers pant with excitement when we enter and don't even notice that we have gone! The owners give very personal attention and our hounds run free and have the time of their lives. Particular attention is given to food likes and dislikes and a feeling of belonging. Our hounds were sleek, healthy and very contented when we picked them up and were not anxious to go home! (read more)

My Chocolate Lab (Maya) has stayed on many occasions and gets excited every time we return; always well looked after; run by first class people who were very understanding when I was delayed abroad because of volcanic ash, can not be faulted. Freddie my Irish Wolfhound was well looked after and we don't think he wanted to leave. The staff were extremely kind and friendly and best of all loved dogs, to me it appeared to be more than just a business they really do care about the dogs in their care which to us is most important. We had to take Freddies own food and this was not a problem. The price is reasonable as the care is of high a standard.

I live in Braintree Essex and used 5 Star Felsted, Great Dunmow who i felt looked after my dog well. Very nice kennels and cattery and it really is 5 stars, in a great place that is quiet and animals get exercise . Very good price and nice friendly staff, i was not worried about leaving my dog there for a min and it was very clean. It was my chocolate labradors first time at a boarding kennel, he is just over a year old. I was quite worried as it was his first time away, but he loved it! He was very well looked after, the staff are so friendly and helpful, didn't mind me calling from my holiday to see how he was (ANOTHER neurotic owner!) he was so happy when i picked him up i dont think he had missed us at all? it is his 6th stay there since new owners took over. It is an excellent kennells, Jasper tail wags as soon
as we enter and he actually tries to push the door open to the

The Weimeraner loves this place. In my opinion 5 Star Felsted, Great Dunmow is the best kennels we have ever been to, if we couldn't board him here then we simply wouldn't go away. He is healthy and happy when he comes home, he is excited to go in and has a clear and obvious bond with the owners. We ring up regularly and we they always know our dog individually and tell us truthfully how he is. He needs a lot of exercise and we know he gets it here.

5 Star were recommended to me and I have no hesitation recommending them to anyone - they are brilliant! I picked my dogs up a couple of weeks ago and they were just having a wash and blow dry - the weather had been awful but my dogs looked and smelt great! I can't fault the staff - even when one of my dogs had a sore foot and the vets had said it was fine, they decided it wasn't and took her to the vet again to find she had a tick in her paw - they are wonderful people who truly care and... 5 Star Felsted - Well what can I say, I wouldn't board my dog at any other kennels they really know how to treat him. He went in and couldn't wait to get through the door and when he came out he was as lively as anything and missed us but obviously loved his stay. My dog was in Five Star kennels in Felsted for 2 weeks and I was disgusted with the condition of him when I collected him. He looked as though he had lost a lot of weight, and he smelt all musty. We had provided his own bed which we suspect he hadn't slept on as the staff brought his own bed out of storage! My usually friendly and calm dog wouldn't even respond to his own name. My dog always goes to five star and he loves it. He goes bounding in to meet the staff whenever he goes back and is always fine when he comes out. I now have another dog and will have no hesitation in sending her there too. Maybe your dog just didn't like being away and is sulking because you left him; is he normally spoilt at home? He's bound to be a bit musty as there are no carpets or sofas for them to rub against in a kennel; if you want your dog to sleep on a sofa and be spoilt maybe you should consider a house sitter?

I found this review not helpful because...it lacks specifics. Did the dog owner / reviewer discuss the dog's condition & condition with the kennel operators ?. Was the dog, as so many are, overweight / obese before boarding ?. Has the owner ever used other boarding kennels, and if so, why did she change to this kennels ?. I'm mystified by the complete lack of balance in her review - if there wasn't anything good about the kennels why did she leave her dog there ?; (If she took the time to inspect the kennels before booking). The contrast between this review and all the others posted is striking. In wonder if it isn't simply a bad tempered response to a disagreement over billing or similar.

I would not leave my dogs at any other kennels. He loves going t0 5 Star Felsted, he loves the owners and is very well looked after. He is exercised lots and is clearly treated like he is on holiday. When we ring up, the staff talk to us at lentgh about what he has been up to, it makes our holidays without him bearable. We have been with this kennels for 2 years and would never go anywhere else. Star Felsted have fantastic kennel conditions, fantastic people, they walk the dogs at least once a day for no extra cost unlike most kennels, do extras such as grooming, bathing, clipping.
They have 11 dogs of their own so very experienced

The couple who run it are great, nothing is to much trouble and the accommodation is so spotless.
Our 2 dogs love going there and we now use them for grooming services as well.
