“dont use home learning college ”

Written on: 18/05/2013

I am an ex employee of home learning college. I strongly ask people to read the reviews and do a bit of research before signing up for any course with this company. this company is terrible, the managers are greedy. they don't care about their customers. they spend far more time pitching sales to customers than helping customers with their enquires and complaints. When I was working their I was stunned to find customers chasing exam dates for years and were very frustrated with their... (read more)

“Don' t use them”

Written on: 15/05/2013 by ghostviper396 (1 review written)

Don't use the home learning college I spoke to them two years ago over the phone and agreed to buy the books and take a look at the course. A few months later the sent debt collector after me for the full amount of the course. They then said "return the books in perfect condition or pay the full amount of the course" this was 5 months later after they had been kicking around in the back of the car. They were in no means prefect condition. Two years on I am still arguing with them, I've... (read more)

I really wish I had done a bit more research and read these reviews before I had signed up with HLC. Honestly don't no where to start, but to cut a long story short I completed a diploma child care, learning and development course in March 2012 and I have still not received my certificate. I have spent nearly £700 on this course. Staff are unhelpful and rude. I get told a different story every time I ring. They have never even apologised. Have just experienced the worst study course in the world.Asked for refund within the specified time as after looking at the complete course decided it was a complete waste of money. The so called course book was exactly the same as the course on line but just printed in a book. Most of the contents of the course could be read very quickly and would not have taken me put o six months to complete, more like six days.I noticed that the course payment that I made in full was split into two... I’m concerned to hear about your dissatisfaction with the service you have received. The last thing we want is for students to be unhappy with their choice of course.

However, we do make it clear to students upon enrollment that, except in the case of a clear defect in the course, you must notify us within 7 working days if you wish to cancel the course. After this period you may change the course for another if you are not happy with your choice, but will be charged to do so in order to cover administration and material costs.

Unfortunately, without acess to your records I am unable to comment on your particular concerns in detail, but if you would like for me to investigate them for you, I would be happy to discuss them further with you and work to resolve them if possible. If you would like for me to do this please contact me directly at connect@homelearningcollege.com.

I signed to to do An AAT level 2 course. Absolutely horrendous - I would advise avoiding HLC. I basically paid £72 month for 24 months and I may as well have literally thrown over £1700 in the bin. Customer service awful, exam department incompetent, tutors don't care. Only aim is to just take your money. I could ill afford to lose this money. We train thousands of accounting students each year, and the majority of them of are very happy with the service they receive – as can be seen from the numerous positive comments on this review site - although we fully admit that there are times when that may not be the case for various reasons. Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

We are members of, and are accredited by, the Open & Distance Learning Quality Council (ODLQC) - the independent guardian of quality in open and distance learning and we take all complaints very seriously.

Prior to May 2011 our course advisors did visit potential students in their homes, which many people found helpful as it provided an opportunity for a detailed discussion about the study options available. All of our course advisors went through a strict training process and were given clear guidelines in which to operate. This was, and still is, combined with a 14 day cooling off period that offers time to review the course materials and make a decision about whether to progress.

The last thing we want is for students to be unhappy with their choice of course, so in May last year we changed our enrolment process. Course advisers no longer make home visits, and all discussions take place over the phone so that conversations can be recorded and monitored. This allows us to undertake a thorough investigation should the need arise.

We would welcome the chance to discuss your particular complaint further and see if we can find a resolution. Please contact our student services team on student.services@homelearningcollege.com or on 0800 8080 6491.

Hi,

Thank you for your feedback.

I’m concerned to hear about your dissatisfaction with the service you have received and your comments about the quality of the course. We take all concerns very seriously, and work hard to ensure any issues raised are fully investigated and fully addressed.

Once a student is enrolled, the required paperwork is sent out immediately. Upon receipt of this at our offices, we will arrange for all course materials to be sent out to you. We fully appreciate your frustration in not receiving your study materials straight away, however the delay in this case was due to the initial paperwork having not been received by yourself and needing to be resent.

In regards to not receiving the e-reader until 3 months into the course, I apologise if you feel the course advisor had not furnished you with full details of this but the offer of a free e-reader was a promotion used as a study incentive, and the e-readers were due to be dispatched at the close of promotion.

To address your concern about the lack of support provided, our tutors are dedicated to the success of their students and work hard to ensure they are given all the support they need to reach their goal. Having investigated your concerns, I can find no trace of any unanswered correspondence. I understand you have now been issued with a new tutor and have made successful contact with her.

As I am sure you will understand, it is not possible to promise 24 hour support in this regard, however your new tutor Andrea can be contacted during her working hours Monday-Friday between 11am and 7.30pm and if you do wish to email tutors with a query outside these hours, they will answer within 24 hours.

I apologise for the trouble you have had accessing the VLC. As with all technology, the site does occasionally suffer from technical fault. However, when this does happen we ensure these issues are rectified as quickly as possible, although I do appreciate this can be frustrating when you want to get on with your study. We are currently working to upgrade the site in order to alleviate these issues in the near future.

In regards to deciphering whether you are ready to take the exams: as every student is different and works at their own individual pace, there is no definitive point at which you will be ready to take your exams. Having said that however, there are various tools in place to help you decide when you are ready to do so: the grades from your assignments and tutor feedback, along with the level of confidence you feel in working with the material will give you a good guide as to how ready you are, but there are also practice exams available for you to take on the VLC for this purpose. When you are ready to take your exams, we will arrange to book your exams with an AAT approved centre.

I hope I have helped clarify things for you. We take all concerns to heart and do our best to address them as fully as possible. We train thousands of students each year, and the majority of them of are very happy with the service they receive – as can be seen from the numerous positive comments on this review site - although we fully admit that there are times when that may not be the case for various reasons. We would be more than happy to continue this discussion in person and see if there’s anything we can do to address your concerns.

The last thing we want is for students to be unhappy with their choice of course. You are welcome to call us on 0208 080 6491 or email student.services@homelearningcollege.com.

Overpriced courses that suck. I did £2000 course in website design and flash. I completed the simple course in two months and was given a certificate worth absolutely nothing. I was promised "one to one" online classes and loads of other perks that turned out to be lies. More important not that you have or don not have certificate, but what is in your head and how do you understand HTML, dreamwearer and adobe flash. Some people have work without certificate because their knowledge allows. Did any university can promise you that after diploma you will get a job. Most is important only from you !

The tutors are very helpful and I couldn't fault their willingness to help and talk through any problems. The main areas I have experienced problems with are all on the Administration side. As part of the enrolement package they register you with the IAB. What they don't tell you is that this won't happen for TWO MONTHS. Thank you for highlighting your concerns about your IAB membership and our Kick Start campaign. I would like to investigate your comments about being given incorrect information, which can only be done if I have your enrolment number or other personal details. If you would like us to do this then please email connect@homelearningcollege.com and include a link to this review so we can track this down quickly.

In the meantime, I’d like to clarify the process around IAB membership, which is covered for one year as part of the course fee and is required to take the final exams. In our experience it’s best to let students work through the first few units and complete one or two assignments before arranging membership, as it allows them to familiarise themselves with the course and ensure they’re on track to complete their studies within the following 12 months, after which membership expires (at which point they are responsible for renewal fees).

On the 21st of every month, we send details of all students who have completed the first two months of their course to the IAB. It seems that this has either been mis-communicated or misconstrued, but is actually a clear, effective process.

With regards to our promotion offering students the chance to receive £150, the terms and conditions state that this is based on completion of their first assignment on or before 30th November 2012. The students that are successful in this will be notified, and those who have paid their full course fees by 31st December 2012 will receive a cheque for this amount. In the case where fees are being paid via a payment plan, the £150 will be deducted from their final payment. This was clearly promoted as part of the offer, but I can only apologise if you were given a different impression at any point.

As mentioned, I am happy to look into this further and will raise this at a senior level if it seems as though further training is required among our sales and support teams.

Kind regards

We are sorry to hear you are unhappy with your enrolment.

Whilst we endeavour to ensure there are no spelling and grammar mistakes in our course material, occasionally they do slip through. However, we update these errors as soon as we are notified and are confident that these have been kept to a minimum and do not hinder our students’ studies, as proven by the many who gain the qualification each year.

The course you had studied did undergo a change in syllabus imposed by the awarding body. This was unavoidable but was required in order to ensure the qualification was of the highest quality and all competencies met with industry requirements.

Home Learning College strive to offer the best level of service we can and will aim to respond to students within 24hrs. We are sorry you feel this was not achieved when attempting to contact your tutor and hope that you were able to have any queries raised answered.

Although regrettably your course was not completed with Home Learning College we are happy to see you were able to achieve the final

“Simple Advice”

Written on: 13/10/2012

Home learning college is given me so many hard times in my beginning of my Accounting course that i couldn't like anyone else to go through this. The materials were delivered beyond cancelling time. Thus the most poor services you receive after that makes you quit the course.its the most useless service have ever received and to make the matters worse they pretend to be sorry and ask for more money for services not delivered. They also will threaten to take you to court if you decide not to pay... “WASTE OF MONEY!!”

Written on: 05/10/2012

I started home learning college 2 years ago (jan 2010), i done a microsoft office course because i wanted to do admin work. When the woman came out (think her name was Lisa) she said this was the best course and i would have no problem getting a job with this course. I completed the course within 6 months, i felt it was quite easy and got good grades for it but 2 years on, still no job! and when i apply for jobs people don't seem to interested in it either!! Total waste of my time and my... (read more)

Home Learning College's Comment

We are sorry to learn you were dissatisfied with your enrolment and take all complaints regarding our courses very seriously.

We appreciate the hard work that will go into achieving the full qualification and can understand that it may be frustrating for you not having found work.

Unfortunately, whilst many of our students go on to find rewarding careers on completing our courses Home Learning College cannot guarantee employment when you finish.

The Microsoft Office course you studied is excellent for building competency in these applications, which many employers look for as a basic requirement.

We wish you the best of luck in your continued search for employment and hope that you are successful very soon.

“Enrolment number EB1050134”

Written on: 06/09/2012 by anjab (1 review written)

I have just finished the BTEC in Travel & Tourism, which my company sponsored me for and which I completed over the course of 2 years. My tutor was supportive throughout, always marked my assignments very promptly and answered any questions I had. However, I was not very impressed with the course materials. They took a while to arrive and were quite sloppily put together, with lots of typos, grammatical errors and obvious cut&paste jobs. They were also very out-of-date, although towards the... “Please Please avoid this organisation”

Written on: 04/09/2012

I cannot begin to describe how angry and upset I am with this organisation. First of all they missold me a course claiming it would give me the right qualifications to practice as a bookkeeper when in fact it didnt. Secondly the course material is awful, and the support you get is worse than useless at times. Despite all this and other issues they will not consider any refund and I have lost over £1500. i am incredulous that they are happy to sit back knowing that they have some very... (read more)

Home Learning College's Comment

Written on: 07/09/2012

I’m concerned to hear about your dissatisfaction with the service you have received and your comments about the quality of the course. All of our bookkeeping courses develop the skills you need to work in this area. Without access to your records I can’t comment in depth, but I suspect that you may be referring to a change which was introduced by the awarding body last year, which means that their members must now complete the manual and computerised courses in order to gain a licence to practise. I hope you can appreciate that this decision was entirely out of our control and we did offer all students affected by that change a heavily discounted route to secure the additional qualification required.

We train thousands of bookkeeping students each year, and the majority of them of are very happy with the service they receive – as can be seen from the numerous positive comments on this review site - although we fully admit that there are times when that may not be the case for various reasons. That’s something we take seriously and do our best to address. We would be more than happy to continue this discussion in person and see if there’s anything we can do to address your concerns.

You are welcome to call us on 0208 080 6491 or email connect@homelearningcollege.com.

“Appalling, Con artists - AVOID!”

Written on: 22/08/2012 by Joshd1982 (1 review written)

I wanted to do an entry-level accounting course, something to test the waters. I decided on the AAT level 1 course and after at my options Home Learning College appeared to offer the most suitable format. The problems started immediately. After checking some details, with HLC and AAT, I was told that I would be able to book my exam as soon as I finished my course work. I am due to join the armed forces is September, so I confirmed with several advisors that I would have no problems in... (read more)

“CIW Foundation course not worth the paper it's printed on”

Written on: 20/08/2012 by theswipe (1 review written)

My experience with the CIW Foundation course has been frustrating, patronising and expensive. The course itself is a patchwork of very basic subjects that will in no way improve your career prospects on their own (it seems that the Foundation course is just a stepping stone to more relevant courses), and at £1300+ a go isn't worth a fraction of the cost. The Home Learning College themselves aren't all bad, but I couldn't recommend this course to anyone. Given my interest in a career in web... (read more)

“HLC is all about the money college!! Beware!!”

Written on: 15/08/2012 by July27 (1 review written)

I'm very disappointed in this college. I regret studying in here, because it's all about the money not the students in this college!! They are very quick to respond regarding the payment, but slow to respond if you want some help, information. My course ended at the beginning this month and my account is suspended, but they are still asking for money at the end of this month!! You need to chase teachers as well for some help in your studies and some of them don't even respond. Unbelievable!! (read more)

“onwards and upwards”

Written on: 15/08/2012

I had done my NVQ 1-4 in administrator after being pushed into it by my boss but I then decided it had given me the buzz to do more so I signed up for the Business Management course. It took me into a whole new level of HR as well as the management side of things, how to give good advise and listen to your staff. I would truly recommend this course. I did find it hard at first to study as well as doing a 60hr wk at work but I just had this buzz to succeed and came away with a Merit(3xB's and... (read more)

“CIW Web Foundation Course”

Written on: 04/08/2012 by jennings27 (1 review written)

I found the course very interesting and comprehensive, studying from home at my own pace was much easier for me as I work full time. There was a lot of support online, good forums and a tutor that you can contact via email. The forum was really helpful as you could see how the other students were finding the course as well as check your understanding of the material. I would recommend the course to others, just remember that you need to put the time in, the course was over 2 years and it... (read more)

“Helpful home learning”

Written on: 02/08/2012 by wolfali16 (1 review written)

I have been with HLC for almost 2 years now and I am pleased with everything about it. The course materials are excellent - plain, simple language and easy to follow. The tutor help is just a phone call away, or you can email them and they respond quickly. You can even ring up about the same problem 3-4 or even 10 times and they will always explain in simple terms and not treat you like you're stupid. The assignments are good, with ample practice sessions first. They even hold classroom type... (read more)

I can assure you that I do not work for the college at all. Just happy with the service that I receive from the tutors.

I know it isn't the cheapest way to learn new skills and you do have to motivate yourself when learning at home, but I would recommend HLC to anyone - genuinely!

I do not appreciate the way that for giving an honest opinion (and that's all it is, my opinion) I am basically accused of being fake.

“Pushy Sales People”

Written on: 01/08/2012

I decided to write this so you have a heads up of what to expect when dealing with these pushy sales people! First thing I noticed when I found my desired course was the lack or shall I say zero information regarding price, though they were more than happy to add the ‘you could earn £30,000 after you have completed this course. I thought to myself there are a couple of reasons for this, the course is expensive for what it is and so that the sales team can try and work their magic. I’m... (read more)

“1 month and still no materials.”

Written on: 26/07/2012 by theimortalcarrot

The initial sign up was good but so far they have failed to get the course materials to my partner they use yodel which is a mistake in its self. Today she asked them to use a new delivery company which they won't do. Several times she emailed them and has no response. The On-line course materials seem good but it's frustrating when the stuff you pay for never seems to arrive. Overall its a bit of a mixed bag and defiantly a D- for service must do better in future.
