Good Points: Stunning contempory looks (especially in matt grey metallic), very comfortable for rider & passenger, excellence MPG, belt drive, ABS, balanced responsive handling, torquey engine, light weight & easy to manouver.

Bad Points: The screen could be higher for long distance touring if weather bad. The standard mirrors are totally inadequate (unless you like looking at your own arms- however spacers are available & make a huge difference). No cubby holes or storage space, though a rack is built into the bike.

General comments: The BMW F800ST is a terrific bike. It genuinely does feel like a proper sports tourer; for the Sunday morning blast (I mean stroll) it accelerates briskly from all revs and doesn't need to be red lined like some bikes to keep it up to speed. It is a very torquey engine which means overtaking is a breeze, even with two up. The handling is excellent, it flicks from side to side to easily and precisely that I'm sure it does it via telepathy! Longer distances are effortless. The riding position is perfect (I'm 5'11") and the fuel consumption is unbelieveable. I'm averaging 58mpg, & that includes 1st & 2nd gear commuting!

I am a 57 year old long term motorcyclist & I bought my 2006 BMW F800ST second hand from my local BMW dealer after buying my first BMW, a K75 which I bonded with on a 2,500 mile trip around Switzerland. Unfortunately, the K75 was the victim of a SMIDSEY (Sorry I didn ' t see you). Fortunately I was luckier than the K75. I loved the F800ST from the moment I sat on it, everything felt so right. The seating position enabled me to touch the ground with both feet, all switchgear was to hand, though I ...

I am a 50+ yo woman and this is my second bike--it is a dream bike. I am 5ft 3inches. I bought a low seat version with a standard suspension. I flatfoot the bike easily due to my long legs.I'm a long distance rider and the bike fits me to a T! I've completed a 20 hour, 1,076 miles ride on the stock seat and had no problems--it was great! The bike is lightweight, easy to lean, loves twisties and extremely manageable--even loaded with hardcase luggage, I have no concerns about handling this bike. ...

The BMW F800ST is a thoroughly enjoyable bike with an undemanding and forgiving nature. Sufficient performance to be exciting, but not so much to intimidate. Next to my ST1100, it's the best bike I've had. Servicing costs are reasonable, and Dealer Support is excellent. BMW insurance is unbeatable. Bought mine in mid winter from a dealer with 200 miles on the clock, for £1500 below list. Way to go!

Well put together. Engine is torquey and it takes a little time to get used to the effect of twin cylinders if you're used to a fizzing 4-pot 600. Result is less gear changing. Well balanced, maybe due to the positioning of the fuel under seat. Accessories are plentiful and work really well (panniers, ABS, heated grips). Belt drive is so refreshing after the hassle of maintaining an oily chain. Very economical.
Enjoyable to ride - & that's the main thing, anyway.

2007 BMW f800st vs. 2008 f800st: Virtually Identical. Only differences in Spec Sheets are 2007 standard seat height is 32.3" vs. 33.1" in 2008 (but 2008 gives options that can be also done in 2007 model) Otherwise for 2008 BMW came out with a Comfort Package and a Safety Package that incorporates Heated Hand Grips, ABS, Tire Pressure Monitoring, On Board Computer. Versus paying for these optional equipment individually. Only found a $225 price difference increased for 2008. AND THAT's ALL. SO ...

A Great Sports Tourer Bike for commuting by BMW, but let down with too small a screen and totally useless mirrors. Dealers on the Net are now offering `extensions' for the mirror storks at £35. with replacement screens around £85. BMW should address the `Mirror'issue free of charge or reduce weight by not bothering to fit them. They are cosmetic only.

Easy to ride, fun to ride. Long ride no problem. Great gas mileage.
Great motorcycle for the money. This is my 3rd BMW and it's the best bike I ever had.

Bought the F800ST new four months ago, commuting daily in all weather. Great Bike but let down with poor screen, totally useless mirrors and with no storage facility, built into either side of the fine fairing which just lends itself for some sort of recess pocket for small items like on some Honda's. Bearing in mind the cost, at the very least BMW should realise their error in design regarding the mirrors and recall machines to fit the extender's free of charge.

I love my F800 ST. As a rider of 26 years and having had not a great deal of riding experience, I probably am not best placed to comment on the best bike to buy. But I bought my F800 St as a all rounder bike. I wanted something that I could use for a country burn at the weekend and for the weekday commute into the city and this bike covers both bases. It's comftable, a joy to ride, it only sips from the tank, it's low maintenance, extremely cheap to insure through BMW (NIG) and it just works ...

Comfortable. Very fuel efficient at often 70 mpg (average 66).
More than adequate performance. Have done 350 miles in a day without discomfort.
Didn't need a computer but I wish somebody had told me that this means that there is no petrol gauge!

Why do I love this bike when I don't want to? It is just so easy to ride-fast-slow cruising-commuting-just anywhere! Sometimes a machine is more than the sum of it"s parts, having a personality which makes you smile-such is the 850ST.

I was after a new bike to replace my (soon to be sold) CBR1000FS. I wanted an all-rounder so my immediate choices were a Fazer 1000, a CBR600F or a VFR800. I rode the BMW F800ST as a "maybe" and fell in love with it. If you look at the ingredients, it shouldn't work - a sportbike with braided hoses, single sided swingarm, Brembo brakes and a steering damper, but you sit upright and it's a parallel twin with a gear change that clonks like an iron gate at low speeds. Somehow, the brains in Munich ...
