★★☆☆☆

written by Oldford on 08/03/2008

I have spent many holidays in Obergurgl and usually stay in B and B establishments but we decided to treat ourselves to a hotel this year as we not in the first flush of youth! We were extremely disappointed in the bedroom, have paid an extra £80 for a larger room - it was not much bigger than the normal B and B rooms we have encountered - and the extra space had a table and a chair and what appeared to be a bed-chair which fell to bits when I tried to sit on it. The balcony could just about take two people standing. The television and its handset were not compatible so could not be worked. The radio did not work. The bathroom radiator did not work. The extractor fan in the bathroom did not work - the hausmeister (handyman) said that none of the extractors worked in the hotel - I thought that this was illegal. I shall return to Obergurgl but not to the Deutschmann - the alterations to it will not be completed for 18-24 months but even then I shall return to B and Bs.

“We stayed at the Deutschman hotel for Xmas week 06. To...”

★★☆☆☆

written by beardy on 06/01/2008

We stayed at the Deutschman hotel for Xmas week 06. To be fair to it these comments are therefore 12m out of date but I noticed that previous entries were even older!
Whilst there we discovered that the once famous family run hotel, which had had an excellent reputation, had recently been sold by the family to another concern, so perhaps our experience may be put down to teething problems, but I could never be persuaded to stay again to find out!
Firstly it is situated on the very edge of the town, although there is a ski lift 100yards away.
We had booked half board, but the food in the restaurant was simply inedible. From memory there were 4 or 5 courses and despite the dreadful service one tended to hang on for the next in the hope that it might be edible.
The service was so bad that one tried to establish eye contact with a waitress to smile in the vain hope that she might take pity on your table and not make you wait any longer. It wasn't very effective as all but those pleading for attention were at it! In the end we wrote off most of the meals and ate out.
To add insult to injury, when we arrived we quickly discovered that we seemed to be the only family who had not purchased by 'Last Minute .com' and had therefore paid more than double everyone else, despite only having booked it less than a month before!

★★★★★

written by SarahS on 02/04/2006

We stayed at the Hotel Deutschmann at the beginning of March and found it to be excellent.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the service could not have been better and the food was of a high standard - a 3 course meal, plus a salad buffet and a cheese board.

The hotel is situated right by the Festkogel Bahn, so you can get back to the hotel easily, either by skiing or getting the gondola.

The Deutschmann is a short stroll away from the town centre. For some, it might be a bit on the quiet side, but it suited us perfectly.

We were a party of 10 from SE England. We were very pleased with the Hotel Deutschmann rooms and facilities as well as the food. Unfortunately during our stay (4th to 11th Feb 2006) Seven of us ended up with tummy upsets. We couldn't pin down the cause but it could have been water.

Hotel Deutschmann was absolute 100% Great no problems or anything. Most friendly people ever, its family run and they can't do enough for you. The location is supurb right next to the slopes. We also had the most snow in the whole of austria while we were there which added to this excellent holiday, great for kids of all ages.

We recently stayed at the Hotel Deutschmann and found the hotel was not up to its 4* standard. When we eventually got our food it was lukewarm/ cold especially the soup. Hardly any vegetables/potatoes etc. This was a Summer holiday and I doubt very much if the skiers were given this menu, but after spending whole days on the mountains one needed more substantial food than this. OK for the SAGA holidays but not for younger people. Front of house lacked atmosphere, reception staff very unsympathetic when we complained and nothing at all was done for us. Bathrooms were not cleaned although towels were changed each day. If staying here take plenty of euros as there is a spar shop in the town where food can be bought (you will need it!)

“I spent 10 days half board at the Hotel Deutschmann on...”

★★★★☆

written by Mr R Phelan on 31/08/2004

I spent 10 days half board at the Hotel Deutschmann on a walking holiday in August 04 & found it to be one of the best family run hotels I have stayed at. The hotel was spotless & with new whirlpool& steam room to back up the sauna & fitness room the additional facilities were exceptional.
I had a single room which was perfectly adequate in size with an excellent bath & Shower with plenty of hot water. Cleaned daily the rooms were spotless
The food was of a very high standard & never had a repeated evening meal option in the 10 days- The evening meal consisted a hearty 6 courses. Breakfast was self service but with a wide variety of options available, also provided was a pack lunch for each day inc in the package price.
The service staff were excellent friendly, attentive & with a nothing is too much attitude. Even helped develop my German as I tried to use my limited vocabulary.
The main let down was no-one really used the bar in the evening other than a stalwart half dozen even though it was a large welcoming bar with a good drink selection & again attentive bar staff.
The resort itself if very quiet on an evening but this is negated by the excellent walking trails, 50 peaks over 3000m and spectacular Glaciers. Hi would recommend highly for the walking enthusiast who wants a quiet drink & relax on an evening before planning the next days walk.

Myself and my 16 year old son stayed at the Deutschmann Hotel in January 2004. We found it to be an excellent hotel with really friendly helpful staff. The food was excellent and the facilities were also excellent.

written by andy2000 on 19/01/2004

Stayed at the Hotel Deutschmann in January 2004. Disappointed by small room where facilities were not as advertised. Food was mediocre, bar lacked atmosphere, front of house was unpleasant. People should note that Austrian star ratings are wildly over optimistic.
