Bought after seeing at John Lewis demonstration, first one had to be returned as spewing out water, now just out of warranty the iron intermitently stops steaming, and is continuously projecting dirty water over clean clothes. I can't believe a shop like John Lewis is STILL selling such expensive rubbish. I have a Laurastar at another house which is at least ten years old with no problems at all, looks like I'll be buying another one of those. DON'T BUY A STIRELLA you'll be wasting your money.

This is a great iron. Not exactly designed for travelling with but if you do lots of heavy-duty washing and tumble drying and/or you iron a lot of heavy cotton shirts and like to have the 100% crease-free look this is a great iron. It's not cheap and it's not quiet exactly and it's a bit unwieldy if, like me, you live in a small flat but it gives much better results than a normal iron.

Had to pay £70 to have the lead re-insulated and now it is spitting out filthy brown water, causing me to have to re-launder clothes. Expensive iron for 2 years use. Spend your money elsewhere.

I have had this DeLonghi Stirella SX8040D iron replaced, the first leaked and now the replacement won't stop steaming. The iron is now out of warranty, looks like the bin for this one. Very expensive pile of junk!!!

Exactly the same problem with the DeLonghi Stirella. First produced dirty water, then leaked through the cord and now it stopped producing any steam at all. Bought it at John Lewis and the sales-assistant was raving about it. What a waste of money and time.

I bought the Stirella SX8040D in May 08. I was assured that it was a good iron by one of the representatives of Simac in one of the big stores I went to. I was quite pleased with it for a while. I took it back to the store today, 1st June 09 because steam was coming out of the lead instead of the iron but was told by Customer Service in the store where I bought it that it needs to be descaled. I did that but the steam is still coming out of the lead and I am worried that it may cause an ele ...

Bought DeLonghi Stirella SX8040D in 2007 - had to be changed four times because it kept breaking down. Had to be sent away for repair in 08 because it kept pouring out dirty water and scum. Few months same problem even though I use 50/50 distilled water and Kal Stop. Out of warranty and repair charge £80! Terrible value for money!
    Buy another brand!!!

I have had this DeLonghi Stirella SX8040D iron for about 18 months and already on number 4 because of breakdowns, just broke again today, the steam will not turn off. A waste of my time and money.

Very disappointed with this DeLonghi Stirella SX8040D. Frequent discharges of dirty water, even when being used with distilled water & Polti Kalstop. Lead insulation has some away, and back of iron is starting to expand with the steam, using lots of water.

I purchased this DeLonghi Stirella SX8040D iron after watching an in store demo in john lewis which looked impressive but it never was and after a couple of years the steam stopped working and it went in the bin.I have since got myself one of the shelf for a quarter of the price and it does a better job!!.

I'm the owner of a DeLonghi Stirella SX8040D - Not a very practical iron for domestic use. It uses too much water. The lead from iron to generator is too short.

I wouldn't recommend this iron to anyone. The first iron stopped working after 3 months - the on/off button broke and I couldn't turn it off.
Now the second one which is almost 12 months old has stopped producing any steam at all and has been depositing brown drips all over clothes so I have to keep re-washing. Not good!

The DeLonghi Stirella SX8040D is lightweight and easy to use. But On my second one now and its going back too. Started to spit out large quantities of water every time I go to use it for an ironing session.

Overall the DeLonghi Stirella is a nice neat unit suitable for left or right handed use and the iron sits good and flat on the unit and not in a 'take-off' position like other brands.

The DeLonghi Stirella SX8040D is very quick to use. Very good finish on clothes. Small & compact. Glides effortlessly over the fabric and its tapered nose makes it easy to access fiddly areas e.g. around buttons. Couldn't find any faults.
