Good Points: Sharp picture and sound reproduction. Easy to use.

Bad Points: Expensive. Poor build quality (drive mechanism has failed twice in 3 years costing almost as much to repair as purchase cost). No warranty offered on repairs. Known issue with drive machanism was never addressed by manufacturer.

General comments: I have had several Denon products before and have been very impressed with their quality, hence my decision to purchase the DVD-800. The unit operated perfectly for 15 months before displaying a H02 error. I took it back to place of purchase, and was told to take the unit to an authorised repairer. I was charged $40 for quotation which turned into $150 to replace the drive machanism. I was offered 3 months warranty on labour only.

Within a further 14 months I had the same problem occur. On researching the problem I find that the DVD-800 is basically a re-branded Panasonic player and the H02 error has been known about for some time. This is very poor form from a company I perceived to be a long term player in the high end A/V market.

I wouldn't purchase a Denon product again - I expect that most of their products are fine, but it is a gamble in my opinion.

After an exhaustive search, look, listen, play and fiddle with, of DVD players I found the Denon DVD 800 one to be the easiest unit to use and mated the best with my Metz TV. Would recommend this unit to anyone. Picture quality is second to none

I bought the Denon DVD800 together with an AVR1602 Receiver. Having read the specs on the internet, which stated mp3 compatibility, I went out and bought it. After having come home, it simply refused to play mp3's. When I phoned the distributer he explained that only the region 1 players have mp3 capability. I will have to send the player to the DENON distributer, who will remove the region limitor and I will be able to play mp3.
Minor drawback: it'll cost me $80......

I bought the DVD 800 DVD player by Denon because I'd heard about their reputation and this was the model in my price range. It is a great DVD player for the money-even though I probably paid a bit more because of the name. Overall I'm happy with the performance. It has a great picture, great audio, and all the features I will need. The only minor bad point is that it has limited audio outputs to choose from: doesn't affect me but others may want to check this out.
