“Saturday night entertaiment”

★★★☆☆

written by Gutierrezxl412 on 08/02/2020

Friday night entertainment was good. Saturday however was abysmal, disorganised and unacceptable. The vocalist actually performed for 45 mins, leaving the audience bewildered and waiting for more. The bar staff appeared to be in a hurry to leave, collecting glasses and unable to provide even a bag of crisps after 10.20 pm.The reception level bar was closed by 10.20,leaving us no option but to retire to our room. We had anticipated a far more entertaining weekend than was provided. All in all a very disappointing end to what could have been a great weekend break.

“Broadway Park Hotel IOW”

★★★☆☆

written by CaptF on 07/05/2019

Booked a Shearings Holiday at the Broadway Park Hotel IOW and paid £56 for an upgrade of room. On finding our room which was at the lowest point of the annex. It did not match the description of the web site. The bathroom needed attention as there was more sealant and rust around the taps. Asked at reception for another room to be told non available and our room was an upgrade. The upgrade was a bigger tv and access to an out side area which was in the woods and completely shaded and open to the public. The following morning there was no heating at all on that floor. Again asked reception who said they would get it fixed. This did not happen and on day two had to ask for a radiator for the room as we could not dry any towels due to lack of a heated towel rail and being in the shade had no sun. I would advise anyone not to ask for an upgrade as a waste of money The upside of the trip was the standard and service of food could not be faulted and the day trips worth while.

“Portion control gone too far”

★★★☆☆

written by Scarygodmother on 23/04/2019

Unsatisfactory at best. As a regular and previously loyal customer I deplore this drop in standards of the evening meals in particular and feel Shearings is in danger of antagonising it's customers. The staff are helpful and polite. Breakfast is fine if a little understaffed. Unfortunately the evening meals are poor. Glutinous powdered soup, overcooked vegetables in tiny portions. Reminded me of school dinners. I asked for the 'succulent' ahem! pork without gravy and plain boiled potatoes. Almost 30% of the meat was fat. Once removed I was left with a piece of meat smaller than my fork! I have to give hours of notice at reception for 'special requests'. Methinks Shearings may be in danger of taking portion control a little too far.

“Damaged Luggage”

★★★☆☆

written by KeithOgden on 07/12/2017

This was the fourth time travelling with Shearings and have not encountered any problems before. This holiday was a present for my husbands 60th birthday. The hotel is great and the staff are friendly. The food is fine although I personally didn't like the self service breakfast facilities. The trips were fairly interesting except Trago Mills which is just a huge shop and a waste of money to pay extra for. My suitcase arrived at our room on Monday badly damaged and I was told that a member of staff would come and see me but they didn't. On the Fri when we got out of the feeder coach it was damaged so badly I couldn't believe it! I was told by the coach driver to contact Shearings for a claim form but had an email saying that damage is quite rare and basically they wont pay for it. All I want is an apology from the person that did this.Other than that the holiday was lovely although we had no sleep due to a strange noise that happened all night for two nights which we never got to the bottom of.

“Journey from Hell!”

★★★☆☆

written by McDermottan480 on 24/08/2017

We were on a 5 day holiday to see the Palaces in London. We were picked up by a feeder coach at 07.10 which then went on to to 4 other pickups and eventually arrive at the Corley services on M6 at 10am. We then had to wait an hour for the main coach, which went to Warwick services and we waited 3 HOURS for 2 more feeder coaches to meet up with us! We eventually arrived in London 2 hours later making a total of 9 hours travelling, we were shattered - surely this journey could be better organised as the A1 and M1 were very close to where we lived? Unfortunately it got worse when the driver told us we had to be on the coach every morning at 08.20 which meant getting up at 07.30 to have breakfast and get ready! This is not my idea of a Holiday and of course the Fina`le was a 10 hour journey home!!!

“Travelling time getting to the resort”

★★★☆☆

written by Sienna212 on 24/07/2017

Just got back from a Shearings holiday to The Grand Hotel in Exmouth. The hotel was excellant, apart from the bar prices, and the trips were also very good. The only real down side was the time spent travelling to and from the resort. We left Norwich at 07.10 and arrived in Exmouth at 16.45, a total of 9 hours and 35 minutes!!Coming home was even worse, we left Exmouth at 08.45 and arrived in Norwich at 20.00,a total of 11 hours and 15 minutes!!

“Rooms for single travellers”

★★★☆☆

written by maggie2018 on 02/07/2017

I have found it very difficult to get single rooms on a lot of european holidays with shearings,I have had to book 11 months in advance to get a single room going to adriatic inclusive next May 2018,they should get more single rooms as a lot of people travelling these days are single either older or young.

I do wonder if these coach holiday companies ignore these serious comments if so they should be very much aware that this happens to single lady passengers frequently and they are mostly too embarrassed to take the. matter further but suffer great distress from having a predator driving the coach

As driver like singe women.I find out after holiday he mess around with passengers, while he is away from home.He tell women he is singe but he has Partner at home. Bad experience I had. Shearings dont take serious about complain at all.Never trust drivers, put me off to use shearings again. Shearings policy should remind every driver on duty to respect women.Very disappointed my holiday.

Yes. I had the same problem with Tyrers in Adlington, Chorley. They make out it is your fault and even barred me from their coach tours and I did nothing wrong. I wouldn't care, the driver had such a big fat belly I wouldn't have looked twice at him.

As a single woman who has recently taken two holidays with Shearings, I must say I have not had a bad experience with their drivers (although I did with a couple of male customers on the way back from the trip to Holland). What I am noticing, however, is that as a singleton it is difficult to book with Shearings, with an obvious bias in favour of couples and selling rooms for 2 persons / coach seats in pairs. Indeed, I have this week-end been excluded from 2 holidays I tried to book for September, even though the coaches for both are no more than a quarter full and even though I could have booked if part of a couple.

“nice short break ”

★★★☆☆

written by Davisqt86 on 10/10/2016

Nice Hotel in a good location in Folkestone although rooms were clean and checked daily were in need of re-decorating and some repairs to windows Double Glazing blown and in Bathroom need new suits and for disabled/elderly no bath just a walk in shower would be better. Also very cold in dining room large windows Not Double glazed! Staff were very very helpful with everything nothing was too much trouble, All the Shearings Drivers were really helpful but we found leaving at 6.15 am to go to the interchange very trying especially as we were over 2 hours crawling on the M6. Then on our return arrived at the interchange at 3.30pm after leaving Folkestone at 8.30am but did not leave the services until 5pm and arrived back in Cleveleys at 7.30pm 11 hours travelling is far too long why we cannot be picked up nearer home on the main booked coach I don.t know or even at Blackpool Bus station.

“Frustrating coach journey ”

★★★☆☆

written by on 12/06/2016

Our feedback is mainly regarding the coach trip itself Our outward journey we were sent a taxi to take five customers plus cases as our feeder coach from Stone to Corley which meant that we arrived there two and a half hours early Once there the lady luggage handler said to leave our cases there,One of the ladies in that group was from Canada which meant that security was utmost on her agenda but instead of the luggage handler bearing this in mind she was quite blatant saying that if she wore a nurses outfit she would be trusted I had to point out the ladies reasoning for her reluctance Our homebound journey really became frustrating after the start of our day was 5am all was going well until we boarded our feeder coach due to leave at 3_15 Eight drop offs is quite ridiculous and meant our journey did not end until 6-15

“Christmas Break at schlosshotel Rosenegg.”

★★★☆☆

written by on 05/01/2016

Xmas break in Austria, Was very very long journey, had to request entertainment was put on screens as we were all always falling asleep, the window on the coach didn't help as they were so dark it made viewing quite dismal, this was the grand tourer coach. Hotel Schlosshotel Rosenegg Austria was nice but they couldn't cope with amount of people and xmas dinner was a big disappointment due to lack of staff and quality of food, the reps did the right thing they both walked out and left us to moan to ourselves. The trip was not worth the cost. and wouldn't recommend it. Also no tea and coffee making facilities in room IN THIS DAY AND AGE !!!

“Tarbet hotel Scotland”

★★★☆☆

written by stefanovic on 08/08/2015

After retuning from a holiday in this hotel we were very disappointed with the standard of the hotel it was very tired and in need of a well over due up date and . The floor boards were very loose and creaky when any one walked around, the bedroom was small with stains on the valance sheet the bathroom was so small with no shelf to put any need toiletries on I think that Shearings need to conceder making a much need review of this hotel for their future holidays. The hotel staff w ere really pleasant and friendly as were the drivers throughout our stay with them. we were so disappointed with the hotel as we had taken family members with us on their first coach holiday they said they would have really think hard before booking another coach holiday.

“Great coach holiday, shame about the coach driver! ”

★★★☆☆

written by on 18/01/2015

Just returned from a 4 night coach trip to Whitby. For the price we paid, £125 each, the value for money was fantastic! We had a large, warm, comfortable room, with a view overlooking the harbour. Travel booking and arrangements went smoothly as did the journey. The hotel staff, especially waiting staff were great and the food was really good and plentiful. But the holiday was RUINED by the incessant chatter of the driver, in spite of being asked by several travellers to cut it down. He repeated everything several times over, much of which we had no need to know, especially a great deal of stuff about himself, appalling and unfunny jokes and he even sang!! Some local knowledge is great but just because people have signed up for a coach holiday doesn`t mean the driver has to torment a captive audience with his puerile jokes and incesssant chatter, relayed to the back of the coach via a microphone which was far too loud, despite the fact that he was asked to turn the volume down. I bought earplugs! His driving etc, were perfectly ok, but if we want to listen to the puerile chatter of someone who obviously fancies himself as an entertainer, we will go to an amateur theatre! Shame - we have travelled with Shearings several times in the past, but never, never, again!

“Valley of Rocks Hotel ”

★★★☆☆

written by 1949Anne on 13/11/2014

Our first impression of the hotel was very impressive, a lovely old building with loads of character - our room was ready to book into 20 mins early, the room/bathroom was really clean as was the bedding and towels. The waiting staff in the dining room were happy, friendly and efficient.a credit to thew Hotel. We appreciate it was late in the season - November but the weekend was sold to us as a Gala Weekend. How sad that it dint live up to its name!! Really disappointed with the standard of entertainment and the food was diabolical. Very small portions of over cooked vegetables!! On the gala night the choice of menu was "limited" as they had "run out" of some of the dishes on offer to the point that some guests ended up with a fish cake for a main meal!! We decided to pack and go home Sunday morning spoiling what was meant to be a well earned break.

Travelling with Shearings to the Bay Highland Hotel Strathpeffer from West Bromwich. Any ideas on how long the journey will take please?  And how many stops are made on the way? Many thanks.

Why are your bar prices so dear..?  Your bar people stand around doing nothing...put a happy hour on.

Well I have never found the bar prices any different to a normal pub. The bar staff are always either behind the bar or in the near vicinity. Happy hour? I don't think that is really appropriate bearing in mind the holiday itself is such good value. I have stayed at The George, Harrogate every year for many year and it is second to none and the staff are very attentive and helpful, as are the Shearing drivers. Some people complain about anything!!

As far as I am aware there are no age restrictions on Shearings holidays.

My daughter came with me one year when she was about 15 and she had a lovely time and conversed with people older than herself. Fair enough, most of us are 'older' but age is no barrier. We are all young at heart and that is what matters!

I am thinking of booking a holiday with Shearings Holidays to Menton French Riviera on 20th February, 2016. I am a single traveller. Do they cater for single travellers or will I be in the minority?

Go - I nearly always travel alone and on coach holiday you always meet people and make new friends. YOu can have the company of fellow travellers or do you own thing. I'm off to Bournemouth today on my own for the weekend with Shearings. You'll more than likely be sat with or near the fellow travellers for meals as quite often they are at set times and your driver(s) will help answer any queries you have and there if you need to ask anything or worried at anytime.

I'm hoping you could help me. I live in Middlesbrough my girlfriend lives near Mansfield we are wanting to go to Llandudno on one of their tours shortly. Would we both meet at the same feeder station and then travel together on the same coach? And how would we go about payment? Thank you

I have recently returned from lloret de mar. I loved the location but I hated the long overnight coach journey and wouldn't do it again. Do Shearings do en route stopovers to Spain/

Thinking of booking a coach trip The Splendours of Switzerland. Is it good value? Hotel room warm enough or do we need hot water bottle? Good view from all rooms? Does one need Swiss Franks or will Euros do? Do they supply fridge, kettle in room? Many thanks.
