Good Points: The Ricoh Caplio R4 is easy to handle, very compact and weighs next to nothing. It is a pleasure to pop into your pocket or purse, knowing that you always have a camera handy. It has a multiplicity of features and settings which give you the feeling that you are in control of any photographic situation. The macro capability is most pleasing.
Bad Points: The picture quality is an extreme disappointment. In both very bright and poor light the Ricoh simply does not perform. Pictures are underexposed in poor light and overexposed when using the flash. In fact the focus point of the image is washed out completely when using the flash in low light.
General comments: I bought the Ricoh Caplio R4 camera specifically for its wide angle and telescopic abilities, but am so disappointed after using it for a month in South Africa that I am ditching it. I am having to spend hours in front of my computer, manipulating images, in order to get any degree of satisfaction from the 1000 or so photographs that I took.
