First time the drive train on the lid broke. So it was the same with the second lid. Dare I try a third time?

The hand broke after about 6 months but still was working with manual support. Mixer has never been doing a good job. liquids would come out and if you don't put enough staff there doesn't really chop it. An absolute mistake of purchase. After over a year the plastic in the blender hand melted so I cannot use it anymore. While blending the hand started producing some smoke... I am sure I wont buy it again!

Our daughter bought this for us as a xmas present a couple of years ago. I can honestly say its been used no more than a dozen times. It was suppose to be the top the range model at the time. It works briefly then stops. The cheap plastic connector to which the tools are attached has simply worn away and seems to be made of a softer plastic than that of the whisk, for example. It wasn't cheap and frankly I would never buy anything else from Breville. The blender is heavy to use and awkward to fit the attachments-not impressed!

While the mixer is OK, the hand blender attachment was awful, falling apart after about 5 months use. The lid of the blender 'bowl' is not awfully secure and it's impossible to blend even a small portion of soup without leakage.

Absolutely shocking...do not buy. There is an inherent design fault. There is an internal fuse, which will blow. The blender is drawing too much power when starting up. This product should be recalled by Breville asap. It's simply not fit for purpose. I am an electrician by trade. I've replaced the 'blown' fuse and it's blown within 1 use. Absolute disgrace. It was a present so can not return it.

It is good only thing is that the lid get rusted and when you use the bowl attachment the rust go into bowl. I bought this last year, it only has one year warranty. I have to buy lid it coast £6.50.

I've had two of these, in only 18 months. They were both treated with respect and not overworked.
The first was a joy to use - until a bit of plastic broke off and the plastic cogs where the motorised handle met the blender bit destroyed each other and so it died.
It was a gift and I had no receipt, so a complaint to Customer Services did no good.
I bought a second one but the design had changed. It lacked style and somehow wasn't so nice as the first one, though they had replaced the plastic cogs with metal (which goes to show that it was a design fault). However, nearly every time I used it, the blender seemed to smell as if it was overheating. One day it just cut out and never worked again.
Stupidly, I can't find the receipt. I won't ever buy any similar product by Breville.

I thought the Breville HB4 was a nice hand blender. The blades can be removed for cleaning, the speed of the motor is adjustable etc etc. just what I was looking for in a hand blender. Unfortunately after about 8 months use the motor stopped working. I suspect that the brushes on the motor have worn down (Motor stuttered a few times and then stopped - never to restart) but in order to confirm I would have to break the unit open. While it was running it was fine and I thought I had actually bought a quality appliance for once. Pity. I had also (of course!) lost the blasted receipt from Currys so can't even take it back to exchange.
I would suggest that Breville redesign this unit with a more durable motor and instead of glueing it, use screws to put it together so that it can be repaired.
Until they do that I cannot recommend anyone to buy this product.
PS: I'll hang on to it for the time being and search for the receipt. IF I find it, and IF they exchange it I'll let y'all know.

After only 2 months the top of my Breville HB4 blender came off and there is no way of fixing it. Am waiting to hear from Breville. Very poor design, I'm not buying anything from Breville again.

I like how much this Breville HB4 does in my kitchen and how little room it takes up in storage. Very quick and efficient, neat ,and does everything I need in one blender. Easy to clean.

The Breville HB4 is a poor product - it is heavy to handle; after 3 times using it. It has now broken. Clumpsy attachments, I find it rather hard to clean; the blades are hard to remove. Breville, please take this product off the market! And give my money back.

Broke after 3 times using it! The Breville HB4 was a gift in X'mas 2007 and it has not even been 12 months and it has broken. While cleaning or removing the blades it is heavy and clumpsy. Please give me my money back!

When my Breville HB4 worked, it was ok. But the blender attachment has now fell apart, and i can't get through on their helpline, it is only 6 month old, would not expect this from a £40 product, and well known brand.

Did not last for very many uses at all, now the motor stutters after a few seconds use - suspect that the motor winding is on the verge of burning out. It wasn't expensive but as I will have to replace it prematurely - it was most definitely not value for money.

After 3 uses the Breville HB4 mixer bowl split across the base. On contacting customer services it turns out that I will have to purchase a replacement. Not the sort of thing I expect from a product less that 6 months old. And from an established brand. I will not buy anything else from Breville due to their poor, so called, customer services

I wouldn't buy another Breville product, given their customer service. If you want a nice hand blender, I recommend the Dualit hand blender - nice hand hold, good selection of attachments, good performance, easy to use.

The Breville HB4 hand blender was good when it didn't fall apart. Would not recommend. Broke within one year.
