Good Points: Security
Bad Points: Just about everything. very slow. No obvious method of printing statements or transaction records except cut & paste. Unhelpful support staff
General comments: Barclays must be one of the worst online banking systems in the world. I have used ANZ, Standard Bank of S Africa, LLoyds TSB, HSBC & Alliance & Leicester - all much better & faster & better facilities. Although security is good if anything a bit over the top since only one person holding the PINsentry can log on, so don't get sick or go on holiday, as your nominated helper can't get support even if they are holding the PINsentry & passwords. If we had know it was so bad before opening a new account, we would have gone to another bank

Barclays give poor service generally. Time consuming. You require an extra device to log on! I have been with them 15 years but am now transferring my account.

Have a joint account? They'll still only send you one (annoyingly bulky) card reader. Sometimes despite entering the number from the card reader correctly, it still claims you didn't. Took me about 15 minutes to get it to accept the number one time before I could make a payment. My main gripe is the storing of transactions. Apparently because of "data archiving rules" they can't keep records for 2 months? What? Surely it's a legal requirement to keep them for longer than this. Why don't these rul ...

I was put through to someone who can neither understand or speak English, is not acceptable. Neither is being then cut off. Then after spending 50 minutes still be told that nothing could be sorted out for 5 working days ! Having read other reviews on this site, can only agree that Barclays is failing it's customers miserably.

Getting accurate information from the website is very difficult, i.e. how to get a new pinsentry card.
Needless to say, I am looking for a new bank.

If its online banking your after, I wouldn't recommend Barclays. I spent over 3 hours one time on the phone over an online banking mistake which they made.

Staff are always great. Information is not current, it's always a day or more behind. Computerised data should be up to date. What really bugs me is, like today, because there is a post strike I can't get online even. Even in the hole in the wall (Balham, London) the print-out is several days old. In the 21st Century, in the age of computer technology, why is Barclays dependent on the postal service.

Security is to the max with Barclays. The roll out of PIN sentry devices is a revolution in its own.Gives me a feeling that Barclays is really interested in keeping my money safe.I have also heard that the transfer limit is going to go up and soon we will see CHAPS and BIPS payments online...What else can you ask for ???

Would probably be OK if they could speed things up but as it stands absolutely useless and unbearably SLOW ... every time I log in it takes ages to bring up pages and it even logs me out sometimes because the session has expired before a page appears.

Unusable 8-9am, 12-1pm, 4-5pm on most days and almost all day between the 28th of one month and the3rd of the next.
Barclays need to put their billion ££££ profits into something that works.

The online setup is appallingly slow. I have used First Direct, Cahoot, IF, Woolwich in the UK and all are so much better and faster than Barclays. Unfortunately, I ended up with Barclays after they moved all of my Woolwich accounts over to them in July (we had been with Woolwich quite happily for more than 6 years before the change). To compound matters, the telephone support line is equally ponderous. AVOID UNTIL THEY HAVE SORTED THEMSELVES OUT!

Recently forcibly transferred from Woolwich - will not be banking with Barclays for much longer unless the response times improves.

Barclays Internet Banking is excellent, easy and free 24 hours. Can be slow sometimes at busy periods.

A Bank as uxorious as Barclays ought to be able to afford to employ someone (a fifteen-year old kid, for example) capable of designing an effective website. Instead the screens are confusing and the end-effect is that a single typo error can cut you off from online banking for a week. This is an unacceptable hazard.

I was a founder member of internet banking with Barclays. They even paid me and a group of people £10 each for our input..
I am happy with everything except not being able to go back more than a month and a half, but then I do keep my statements, so it's not too great a hardship.

I use a total of 7 online banks between work and home in the UK and one other country. Barclay's Online is by far the worst. We have waited for improvements that do not come, so we are now moving bank, as good internet banking functionality is essential to our business.

I have used Barclays internet banking for a number of years, and I have been a Barclays customer for eight years now.
The internet service is okay, but could be improved. However without switching banks, it is difficult to say if what I am getting is any better than what other banks provide.
The main thing that annoys me is the fact that I cannot amend my personal details online. I have to write to my local branch, and this almost defeats the object of electronic banking.
I also have to lo ...

Barclays no longer enable you to get more than just a few weeks transactions from the website. They used to allow you to download several months back, but new archiving rules mean that you can only get a few weeks history online.
