I have somehow managed to lock myself out twice. I am reasonably competent user and I suspect the system dropped. Having spent approx thirty minutes on the premium rate phone line she was unable to understand the difference between two accounts or to find the information I needed. (I wanted her to confirm certain payments into an account.) She became very confused and apparently hung up on me. When I rang back and asked to speak to a supervisor I got nothing but prevarication from Mumta. I... (read more)

This website is terrible. I just went there cause I was told it is all so EASY there. I can not find my current balance anywhere. The same with a detailed statement. We have been business banking with Barclays for years. They went through a phase of 'losing' payees randomly, which seemed to solve itself. Now it's started again. I've just gone to pay a supplier and for the third time in as many weeks, their bank details have disappeared and they are no longer a saved payee. Because it is a large amount, Barclays will sit on the payment for 'security reasons' because this is a 'new' payee. So the payment will not go today, and we are late. This happened... (read more)

Ever since the take over of ING Direct by Barclays what was once an excellent service has gone from bad to worse. Where as before you could transfer monies and it would take a matter of minutes it now takes days. The only reason that I do not pull out my money now and move is that I would loose my lump sum interest at the end of 12 months. Be sure though that when that time comes I will be gone and it will not be to Barclays!! (read more)

I went to pay my barclaycard bill using online banking as I have done for 5 years or more and my payee list has disappeared! After 50 mins on the phone I was able to talk to someone in the UK and they promised it would be OK in an hour or so. 8 hours later and it is still missing! I have been with Barclays for years - we are a large business - what happens - at least once every 2 months my card gets blocked with suspected fraud - guess what the fraud is because of usual transactions to my usual suppliers! But every time this takes almost 2 hours to sort out - any recompense - no!! Complaint - you are joking - on three occasions I... (read more)

Three reasons for not using Barclays: 1. a disreputable organisation, judged by any standard you wish to apply. 2. Their website crashes Mac OSX Lion. 3. This evening (10.30pm) I realised that I must put in place my new Council Tax Direct Debit. I rang the required number offered by Barclays. It took them 15 minutes to answer my call. My instructions were simple: please update my existing Direct Debit for 2013-2014. All of teh Codes remain the same just the numbers for each month will change. My account was recently transferred over from standard life bank. The difference in service has been astounding. I was looking for a bank to replace my current bank and found the Barclay Online Banking service to be just what I was looking for. The account opening was fairly easy and straight forward. I was able to do 100% of what I was expecting and it seemed like the bank for me. However, 2 issues came up - after the fact. I did not do the proper research when I openned the account. Apparently, unlike 95% of the online banks out there, Barclays will HOLD any of the electronic funds for 5 business days after they receive the funds. Which means, they will have the funds locked up for approximately 8 days. (3 days for the transfer and 5 days for the hold). I am leaving my current bank for that very reason. This issue was completely my fault for not reading all of the rules outlined on the web-site - very clear, just my ignorance. The second issue and probably the MOST critical, as noted in the previous comment the online system does have issues. I openned 1 account and somehow 3 accounts were openned - initially not a big deal since I was planning to have that many accounts anyway. On top of that, I had my external accounts verified and began the transfer process. When I put in the transfer amount to 1 account all 3 of my accounts had the transfer activated. Therefore, I had to fund 3 accounts with the same money from my external account. I called customer support and found they were not able to stop the transfer - even though it was within an hour of making the transfer. As well, the transfer went through even though there was not enough money in the external account to cover it - I am not quite sure how that happened. I think over time, they will be able to provide a very good product, but right now they need to rethink their online web-site and the policies they have started.

This is one review I am actually sad to write. I actually loved Barclays and used to love their in branch services. I'm not sure how they are recently after being slammed in the media, I hope they tightened up their ship.
