“high luxury low price”

Written on: 19/02/2013 by Jonny62

Onto my second car after I broke my heart when my first manual 04 drowned in a flood. Now have an 07 gear-tronic. One time I drove my last car for 12 hours from the South of France while towing a caravan. I was still comfortable when I arrived at the next site.Any journey seams that much quicker due to the pleasure of driving this car. Even the Honda salesman said when I was test driving a diesel Accord to go for the Volvo S60, and forget the VW Passat which I was looking at too! I service... (read more)

“Like a well worn slipper”

Written on: 17/06/2012

We've just moved onto our second S60, the first a D5 SE (163bhp) was purchased at 60k and ran till 152k and its eventual sale. NOTHING in 10 years has broken on the vehicle. The clutch was replaced at 140k as expected, just recently there was signs of wear in the turbo, so without hesitation we sought and found another identical model with the upgrade package. This time the (185bhp) engine is ever so slightly less economical, but certainly has much more torque. The power seat with memory is... (read more)

“Motoring's best kept secret!”

Written on: 13/03/2012

I've driven two BMW 3-series for the past six years and, ignoring the hype, they really are superb cars. But the BMW has one big flaw - the wide transmission tunnel means you sit slightly angled to the right, which I believe was the main cause of my bad back. I mention this because it's important if you're thinking of buying one. So I wanted a comfortable car more than anything and while not over-enamoured by the styling of the Volvo the consistant word that came up in the reviews... (read more)

I am a high milage driver (45K per year) and I bought this S60 D5 Sport with 55K on the clock. Now it is just over 141K miles and not a single issue. It get's plenty of fast motorway use mostly and really is a hard car to beat as an all rounder. The 163BHP D5 engine is bullet proof, a little gruff at some rev ranges but totally do-able and very quiet at cruising speeds. Extremely comfortable, not much room in the back seats or boot but OK. Great seats, great stereo and decent handling for a... (read more)

I have had a Volvo S60 for 7 years, its stunning and the fuel is shocking 46 mpg. The only thing i would wath out for is lots of blacke smoke from the rear thats a new rad and intercooler they are not cheap around 650 for the lot and fitting. Tyres are sound but wath the turning as on 17/18 rims can cause rubbing on the wheel arch then new tyres. (read more)

Great all in all package, impressive performance, bought my Volvo S60 a year ago and done 25000 miles, still enjoying the drive. What all the fuss about handling? It handles beautifully for such a big car. does 600 miles for full tank (70 litre). I had many cars in my life, was never convinced with one like this great D5 auto engined. Last thing; acceleration on the motorways is a pleasure. It is better than german rivals as an all-rounder, taking into consideration value for money. (read more)

I have a Volvo S60 D5, it is great on juice, it's a very good performing car all round, it's not slow at all, and value for money you cant go wrong! Best car ever for the money you cant go wrong, you could go out there and spend your money on a more expensive car, but you will regret it when it breaks down on the motorway and a Volvo goes past you! The Volvo S60 is an honest good value car and great all rounder, ticks most of the boxes for a classy family car and with good fuel economy, had many cars in my time and this Volvo is my general favourite. Bought my 1st Volvo s60 d5 when it was 2 years old. I have it 2 years now. No lack of power in any gear. Excels on long runs delivering OK economy about 40mpg. Really comfortable although difficult to get the right heat setting on the climate control. The auto wipers have a mind of their own too. Regarding the innane comment on "Speed Limiter", perhaps you would like to be better informed and educated with the knowledge that a Speed Limiter (as fitted to Mercedes etc) can be manually set, usually in 5mph increments, to LIMIT the MAXIMUM speed at which the vehicle will travel, NOT set the MINIMUM speed. You might do your homework in future !

Sounds kinda' sarcastic that comment re: Speed Limiter. Might I suggest that you wise up. Most normal people would accept that a speed 'LIMITER' usually "LIMITS" speed or, put even more simply, prevents a certain speed being exceeded. Thats what it is. If you are still not too sure, check out Mercedes who have fitted them (and perhaps still do) to many vehicles in their range. They are VERY useful when you have a vehicle which cruises very easily at speed as they can be set to virtually any speed and regardless of what you do, you WILL NOT EXCEED that set speed.

Long winter evenings?, - yeah, they really do fly by, you got a problem with that ? As the holder of HGV Class 1, PSV, Full International Car and Motorcycle Race licences and having sometime ago succesfully passed the Advanced Driving Test I really do feel kind of qualified to comment as I have done. What do you need the extra BHP for, to impress your mates? I bet you've got a big noisy exhaust too and drive with your fog lights on and stereo at full blast. Is it your mam's car?. Get a life sonny.

Thanks for your understanding and your reply. I only mentioned about the speed limiter as I also have a Merc C250 Turbodiesel which HAS an adjustable speed limiter fitted and believe me, it has saved me loads of dosh by preventing that "up creep" of speed which we all suffer from in cars that cruise easily at speed. Anyway, nice to be friends again !. My back was got up a bit too as I get sick of people constantly critisizing Volvo drivers - as a biker, I'm sure you know what I mean !.

I have never had, nor wanted, a diesel before. This Volvo S60 D5 SE car is not only a fine diesel, its a great car. The perforance is strong with overtaking excellent and the growl of the engine makes you want to press on. Geartronic auto gearbox has clutchless manual option, which is fun.
