Nationwide ARE NOT ON YOUR SIDE! Worst company I have ever had to deal with. Customer service is non existent - no one can help you and actually no one wants to help you. They cannot think out the box, just what the computer says. Frustrating is an understatement. They are just happy to take your money. Wouldn't let me port my mortgage so they took £6,000 from me for early redemption! They wouldn't take my situation into account at all. They could have helped me but they chose not to. I have just purchased my first house via a mortgaged through Nationwide. The service I received from the staff was professional, friendly, helpful efficient and extremely quick. The staff were very knowledgeable regarding the various products that were available to me as a FTB with a five percent deposit. So my time line for a remortgage to Nationwide: DIP approved online on Saturday 18th June. Full application immediately after. Solicitor contacted me on Monday 20th, valuation booked on 20th and took place on Friday 24th. Further documents requested on wednesday 22nd, Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th. My remortgage to Nationwide application timeline was as follows: Online DIP Saturday 19th June, full application immediately after. Valuation booked on 21st, booked for 25th. Solicitor contact on 21st. Couple of documents requested on Wednesday 23rd and monday 27th. Offer made and sent out on Tuesday 28th. Do not use nationwide, to be told every day that my application would be cleared and signed off at the 'end of the working day' I'm still waiting 8 weeks on. Just makes you wonder when 'there working day ends'. If I had a pound for everytime I was told that massive lie I wouldn't need a mortgage the house would be paid off!! Please do not engage with nationwide. Incompetent, disinterested and lazy. Have turned what should be a happy exciting time into a hell of stress and anxiety for no reason other than their own uselessness. Even when sending out an offer of loan they do so by second class post over a weekend when our vendors, and ourselves, are worried sick. They seem to have lost sight over who the customer is, and who ultimately pays for their performance based pay reviews… Read Full Review

“Amazingly Helpful with Our First Home ”

Surprisingly we applied for a mortgage with a different bank which 1. Offered more value to loan which we didn't need 2. Didnt feel impossible to find us away to keep affordably low 3. Fixed Rate for 5 Years - yes pay abit more but secure Required several documents as standard which yes some did need reviewing and supplying further details however thats the situation all banks are in to be sure you can pay it back. “Delay in application due to a technical fault of theirs”

I applied for a mortgage in November, they replied with a decision in principle within a week which was very efficient. Unfortunately I was outbid and the offer lapsed after three months. At the end of this three months I found another house which I was successful in placing a bid under the asssurance that a mortgage application would be again swiftly accepted. I received "mortgage in principle" on the 27th of November 2015. Today is 15th of December, and only yesterday I was asked to send some additional documents. Why does it take so long for someone to check the documents? This is taking way too long, and I am loosing confidence in Nationwide. We have applied on 7th Dec 15 and we sill don't have offer yet 27th Jan 16 ... It takes way to long... They keep asking for 1 documents at a time and I am getting annoyed now :(

I have been waiting for 4 months. Everytime i ring its we will be back in touch either end of play, next 24 or next 48 hours. They have had the same paperwork sent to them numerous times. They are the worse Company i have ever dealt with and still today i am waiting for my Mortgage offer which they promised a week last Monday

The Nationwide mortgage system is fundamentally flawed. After we provided them with the requested documents (payslips etc), they were sent away for approval by the mortgage team. A week later, they came back with a question. We answered immediately, and our answer was sent back to the mortgage team. Another week passed, and we got another question. I applied for a mortgage with Nationwide, got my Decision in Principle, had all my income approved, had a valuation booked in, the valuation was approved and then the process was at mortgage offer stage. Nationwide called the office where i work, asked for me and was told i am not in the office and within 10 minutes of that call my mortgage application was declined. Can't be just a late payment that was the issue- I had two missed loan payments two years previous and I still got the mortgage offer. Yes they're slow but they only slow with the "riskier" customers. They want to make sure the customer is suitable for the loan
