We applied to the Nationwide to remortgage our home in order to release some of the equity that we have. We choose the Nationwide as the rates were the most competitive for the LTV we were looking for. We received the initial documents within a couple of days which we duly returned.
It is now almost 3 months since the initial documents were sent back to them. We have provided everything they have required in a most timely fashion but I have had to chase them every other day for an update on the progress! Our case owner is rarely available to speak to, I am usually promised a call back but the majority of the time this does not happen although occasionally I receive an email to say my application is being processed! It has only been three weeks since a valuer came to our house (why did this take so long to arrange!)and since then we have heard nothing! I have given up chasing and have actually arranged the re-mortgage with another lender and have been advised that I will recieve the additional funds requested by the end of the week - all in all the process has taken less than 3 weeks! I will wait and see how long it takes the Nationwide to come back to me before I tell them I no longer require their services - utterly appalling customer service.

I have had my mortgage with Nationwide for several years now, I feel that the rates are competative and good. Most of my experience with them has ranged from fair to excellent. It's important that people do their home work and read up on products available because at the end of the day it is a business! I will soon reach the end of my mortgage term and if their rates are still good I'll get another mortgage with them.

5 weeks ago my partner and i applied to transfer equity on a property from his ex's name into my name at a cost of £150.

We filled in all the forms, sorted a solicitor and just had to wait for Nationwide to sort it out. Unless you practically harrass them on a daily basis nothing gets done, ringing the transfer of equity department gets you nowhere as no one ever bothers to answer the phone they just leave you on hold.

We rang the general enquiries line and after nearly an hour of bein ...

I am in the process of remortgaging through Nationwide and already have my worries. They accepted me in principle, my house has already dropped in value but their surveyor tried to tell me that my house (only a 2 bed property) has gone down by another £5k in about 3 weeks (over the Christmas period!) which I have contested as Countrywide valued it at 100k. I am trying to get a small amount of equity out of the house for Maternity leave and now might not even get this, then they turn aroun ...

As a member of the RAF I was posted overseas and was not allowed to let my property under Nationwide mortgage terms and conditions. I appealed to Nationwide Head Office and was allowed special dispensation to let the property for one year. I was to be away for over 3 years and therefore swapped mortgages to HSBC, who had no problem allowing letting for as long as required.

Nationwide building society are probably the most genuine high street lender in the UK with the lowest rates possible with no hidden charges. They are there for their members that is all their customers and don't fool people into thinking they are paying less than they are. First class customer service second to none. Not for profit building society - the only major one that did not fall for privatisation. Nationwide are the key factor for keeping interest rates down. They are the only ones able ...

Total nightmare!! Trying to arrange an advance on the mortgage for home improvements. So far it has taken 9 weeks. It requires constant phone calls to keep the process chugging along. If I had time to start the process again somewhere else I would but we have deadlines to meet with contactors. Next time the mortgage needs reviewing we will not even consider the Nationwide.

I found that Nationwide Mortgage are very good and if something does go wrong it is fixed quickly. Very impressed with our local branch - mortgage advisor is very very helpful and easy to deal with.

Nationwide offer a great traditional service. Good mortgage, great customer service always keep you up to date. The only bad points is not their fault, but interest rates!!!

Nationwide Building Society Mortgage inform you of any interest changes immediately and although rates could be a bit more competitive the call centre is very helpful.

I don't know where to start, as it has been a nightmare with Nationwide Building Society from day 1!

First off they came round to value our home, then they valued it at the same price we had brought it for 2 years ago!! Only when we told them there was a house 2 doors down from us that is the exact same, that had just sold for 40k more than he valued our property for, they reluctantly increased the valuation.

Now the reason this was a concern for us, was the fact that we were taking 7k ou ...

After initial acceptance of my mortgage transfer, the transfer process was extremely slow. Six months after the original application was made, I chased up their solicitors who informed me the offer had been withdrawn. This was only because I had a pre-emption agreement on my house (ie. someone had first right to buy at market price). No-one from Nationwide had bothered to inform me or explain this to me. I had paid £480 in reservation fees, and this was eventually refunded to me, but on ...

From the day I contacted Nationwide about a mortgage, I found the staff genuinely helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. The whole swap from my previous lender was dealt with very well, considering my last lender was not the most helpful. I look to staying with this company for a long time!

Overall, I find the Nationwide to be the best after being with two other building societies that became banks, and believe me, you can see the difference when a society becomes a bank.

Having just left a very negative review of Halifax credit cards, I thought that I would redress the balance and relate the excellent service that I have had from Nationwide.

I have had my mortgages (one repayment, one interest only) with Nationwide for 7 years. Every now and then I look at other lenders, but I've been impressed that Nationwide products have always been competitive.

Mortgage applications were dealt with quickly, with rapid decisions and clearing of funds.

    All the inform ...

Back in October I saw an advisor who put forward a Nationwide mortgage on a good fixed rate. Everything was fine until today, 2 days before the redemption date, I recieve a letter informing me that there is a £1,700 shortfall between what I'm borrowing and what is owed. Now why did they wait so long to tell me this? My mortgage will not be sorted till after Christmas now and I am being charged a daily interest rate for something which was in their hands. Knowing what I know now I would not ...

I had a very good service from the nationwide Building Society at first, then it seemed to go down hill once they had you signed up. I had two mortgages with them which I wanted to join together and just have one repayment figure. It took a very long time to sort out, despite being told that it would all be sorted within 4 weeks.

I was very disappointed with the level of service I received from the
Nationwide Building Society. Dealing with the Sales and Services department was a truly painful experience. They gave us the wrong or very sketchy information when we did managed to talk to somebody. After 4 weeks of running around after our application we were turned down for the mortgage without an explanation. When I tried to make a formal complaint I was told they will forward my complaint back to the person doing my ...

Getting a mortgage for the first time is an overwhelming experience. I did a bit of background work by reading 'What Mortgage' and had virtually picked which one we were going to have anyway. Getting an appointment with Nationwide Building Society was a little difficult even though you want to borrow vast amounts of money !

I liked the Nationwide because they were a building society and I think this works in the interests of the customer as profits are reinvested. I also liked them because t ...
