“ "Nationwide on your side" what a joke!”

Written on: 01/06/2015 by Ma77Rad (1 review written)

Nationwide are undoubtedly the most amateurish, financial institution that I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. My partner and I applied for a mortgage online over 4 weeks ago; we are a professional couple with a big deposit, excellent credit ratings & good salaries. We waited over 4 tedious weeks and did not even get to the DIP stage of the application process. During this period I made in excess of 10 phone calls chasing up the progression of our application and was repeatedly given… Read Full Review

“Don't waste your money!”

Written on: 29/05/2015 by Katieq137 (1 review written)

I am absolutely disgusted with Nationwide. We took a mortgage out with them as first time buyers and were massively wrongly advised on rates. Our circumstances have now changed and we are living on one wage and cannot afford the huge repayments due to having a baby. I rang to get advice on this and was pretty much told it was pay 7k to get out of the mortgage or suck it up. Alternatively we lose the house. They have massively lower offers available but we have to buy ourselves out, despite… Read Full Review

“So slow had to go elsewhere...”

Written on: 26/05/2015 by Lindsay494 (1 review written)

After waiting over 30 days for DIP and being asked for paperwork constantly, some of which had already been supplied, I applied from the Halifax and got a DIP instantly. Whatever the process is at Nationwide it is awful, incredibly slow and frustrating, good products but only if you can get them! Mortgage advisor said their underwriting process is notoriously slow and best to avoid if you want a quick turn around… Read Full Review

“The outcome was good but massive room for improvement”

Written on: 20/05/2015 by Boe150 (1 review written)

We applied for our mortgage via first mortgage, got a DIP instantly and provided all documents requested with our full application (first time buyer with HTB). The text msgs came flooding in from that point, we paid the valuation fee £250.00 and the valuation report was fine. Then silence....2 weeks had passed and still no response. Then we were asked for a driving license which we had already provided. Then a passport...already provided....then the date my husband started living with his… Read Full Review

“Fantastic ”

Written on: 13/05/2015 by Emmag81 (1 review written)

Amazing from start to finish. Applied through a broker and the whole process was quick, efficient and Nationwide kept us informed at all stages via text messages. I was very nervous about the mortgage process after reading the reviews on this site, but from our full application being submitted we had a formal decision on the fourth working day. Nationwide have enabled us to be able to buy our dream home for our family and have made the process easy, stress free and very achievable. I… Read Full Review

“10 days from application to offer”

Written on: 02/05/2015 by Caldwell289 (1 review written)

So much easire than i expected. We applied (through a broker) on 10th March, got an offer on 20th March. Im sure not everyone has had the same service, but thats the same with everything - can't be perfect everytime! It may have been easier given our joint income of circa £90k and relatively good credit history (although some payday loans on record from a long while back) They only came back for one point of clarification (something on the payslip) Would recommend nationwide to anyone… Read Full Review

All I can say on the matter is what a joke! False information, lies and empty promises. Eventually moved to natwest... 1 million times better service than nationwide and worth the little bit extra to pay a month! AVOID!!!… Read Full Review

“Very Poor Service ”

Written on: 08/04/2015 by Sussex2488 (1 review written)

Applied for an online mortgage with Nationwide 3 weeks ago, got a DIP very quickly. We paid for the valuation within a day of applying and they valued the property it cam up to value. They just keep asking for more and more documents, often asking for the same documents 2 or 3 times (even through we have sent them, we have to send them again). We have a big deposit, and a joint income of £110k and only looking to loan £270k. It seems a lot of people look at each case but you can not get to… Read Full Review

“Time wasters”

Written on: 13/03/2015 by paulov (1 review written)

Hello I have tried to apply for mortgage (as first time buyer) with Nationwide. They have refused me saying according my credit score ( I never have debt or any borrowings) they cannot help me. I have appealed against theirs decision and they come back to me that if I put 15% as deposit they will process my application. I did as they asked and then right before exchanging contract they said NO. I have lost money on valuation which came back positive. Theirs refusal of my application was… Read Full Review

Applied for mortgage with help to buy it took 7 weeks we went through a broker team who were fantastic but nationwide are so poor in customer service we were constantly asked for documents that had already been sent to them 2/3 times everytime a new document was sent they would tell us it takes 6 days!! 6 days!!! To look at nee documents the underwriters must be a bunch of monkeys they apparently couldnt see where it stated the company name of where we worked on payslip had to be pointed out to… Read Full Review

“self employed mortgages”

Written on: 21/02/2015 by rosemary64 (1 review written)

I recently secured a property and applied for a mortgage with nationwide. I am a self employed nurse, all was accepted on-line and I actually could have applied to borrow almost double the amount I requested, based on my salary. The mortgage team at Nationwide were completely unhelpful, constantly requesting further documents as they could not understand the documents I forwarded to them. Despite the fact they proclaim to offer mortgages to the self employed I wouldn't advise anyone in this… Read Full Review

“Terrible treatment of customers”

Written on: 22/01/2015 by O'Gradytk195 (1 review written)

We applied for a small amount of additional borrowing on our mortgage back in October we were given approval and given decision in principal. We completed the final stage at the beginning of January which was choosing the mortgage product etc (even to the point of him getting BACS transfer details) with one of their mortgage consultants (spent 2 hours on the phone). As far as we were told it was all okay and being processed. Then i received a text message last week saying the application had… Read Full Review

“Wouldn't let us port our mortgage to new address ”

Written on: 11/01/2015 by BrendanDaugherty (1 review written)

Never missed a single payment in 10 years, was in a chain to move to a new house. Nationwide would not port mortgage over even though we were not asking for any extra money. It was agreed during one phone call, when I phoned for update I was told it was declined. My husband had a break in being self employed so he only had one year accounts, he went PAYE while there was a shortage of work. What's the difference of making the same mortgage repayments one our present address to another ???… Read Full Review

“Dumped!”

Written on: 25/12/2014 by Reynoldstn248 (1 review written)

Movers mortgage - high salary, perfect credit, no debt. Bought auction property. Just about to exchange and then nationwide cancelled my mortgage a week before they told me. No letter, no explanation. A phone all from an admin girl telling me and then a call from my solicitor saying we were a day away from exchange. Going to loose approx 7k now unless I get new mortgage within a week and over Christmas. So disappointed, especially as they were so good at the start in terms of speed. I had a… Read Full Review

“17 day wait, then appointment cancelled!”

Written on: 28/11/2014 by Lennon65 (1 review written)

I needed to remortgage after my current deal ended. My mortgage provider (who I have never had any problems with) wanted to charge me a fee for a remortgage, so I decided to look around for fee free mortgages. Nationwide seemed to have the best deal, so I tried to apply online, but it didn't work properly and at a certain point wouldn't let me go any further. It wasn't very user friendly and I'm no technophobe. Anyway I called them up. The first gentleman I spoke to was very friendly and… Read Full Review

Do not apply with Nationwide for a mortgage as a current account holder i have been let down by Nationwide as I applied for a Mortgage on 21/11/2014 over the phone. Since then they asked me to send some documents such as bank statements, payslips, evidence of savings and ID. As I already bank with them so why do they need my ID , Payslips because the salary come directly from my employer to Nationwide accounts but anyway i popped into my local nationwide branch and fax over all the documents that they asked for. Since sending documents after 4 days I called to see if they received my documents so the admin team told me they have all the paperwork that they need so the underwriter will look at it within 48 hours turn around. I waited few day then I called them for update and the admin team told me that they need more documents but when I asked them what documents then they replied to me what I already sent to them previously. I was shocked so I did not wait again I went to the local branch and fax the documents over. Few days later I called to check update again same story 48 hours for underwriter will look at my paperwork. I was so upset so again few days went past i called for update then the admin team telling me on the phone the are missing bank statement but I told them I have sent it twice already and she said to me she can't find it. I gave up because it is nearly one month I'm still going around back to square one. I have sent everything that they have asked for and it seems to me the admin team they have no idea what exactly they are doing. They lie far too much and always blame each other for the same mistake. I am still waiting for the mortgage offer now and the vendors are getting fed-up with me as she needs to sale her house before Christmas. Sad Do not apply with Nationwide stay way but if you want to lose the house then apply with Nationwide.
