“Archaic”

Written on: 09/07/2014 by Torres97 (1 review written)

I don’t often write reviews, and thankfully I usually don’t have to. But Nationwide Mortgage is absolutely terrible. This is my 4th mortgage company that I’ve dealt with in my lifetime, unfortunately this was shopped from our original company where the loan originated. The first major issue I have is that their online account management is archaic. I can’t make an online payment unless it’s through Western Union, which comes with a $7.50 fee EVERY time. I set up automatic payments to… Read Full Review

“Three months and still counting!”

Written on: 07/07/2014 by Konnichi (1 review written)

To cut a very long story short nationwide have taken over three months to complete our mortgage in fact we still don't have a mortgage offer. Before we involved the complaints department we had a mortgage agreed in principle, the house valued then told due to the law change we had to go back into branch to be told verbally that my partner would be over the age of retirement at the maturity of the mortgage. At this rate she might be over a 100! They then tried to re process the mortgage and… Read Full Review

“Disgraceful”

Written on: 03/07/2014 by Mylesy384 (1 review written)

It has taken 2 months for me to find out my mortgage application is in decline, with no phone call or letter to advise me of the situation. I had to phone the New Business Centre myself to find out the current situation. They are very happy to take a valuation and application fee up front, but their eagerness soon disappears thereafter. I have had to write a letter of complaint with threats of the Ombudsman, but I don't expect to get much joy if my dealings thus far with the Nationwide are… Read Full Review

“Amazingly fast - they have the resources”

Written on: 26/06/2014 by Cebulos (1 review written)

I have read many reviews about Nationwide, some of them were positive and some were not :) and as most of FTB I was quite nervous as I have already got my offer on the house accepted. My experience with this Building Society was only positive from DIP and full application (direct/online) it took 6 days to formal offer....and this included the survey... Amazingly fast :) survey and application fee to be paid up front. I guess my case was straight forward but if you are required to provide any… Read Full Review

“Additional borrowing for existing customer”

Written on: 26/06/2014 by Andyboy123 (1 review written)

Where do I start incompetent , unprofessional, lazy .i decided to ask for some additional borrowing for some home improvements on first contact it was agreed in principal that I could afford to borrow the extra money on top of my existing mortgage with nationwide the first contact used there online mortgage calculator to asses whether I could afford this loan .I was then passed to a mortgage advisor to go through a full additional borrowing application at this point I asked her to double check… Read Full Review

“Existing customer Failed DIP with excellent credit...”

Written on: 19/06/2014 by 19Hagan (1 review written)

We have had a mortgage with nationwide for the last 7 years. We decided to move to a bigger property. We put our house on the market, spoke to nationwide re porting our current mortgage and tried to get a dip. They did an affordability check over the phone and told us we could lend up to 320k! We only want 160k in total. Told us they wouldn't do a dip until we had found a new property! A few months later we found the house of our dreams, booked an appt in our local branch! We only want to lend… Read Full Review

“SHOULD BE ASHAMED”

Written on: 13/06/2014 by hzHackett432 (1 review written)

My experience of them as been appalling although they have not declined me yet I feel as if they are looking for any reason too. They DO NOT return any call or have staff trained enough to answers questions just he usual reading off notes without any solutions being offered. My biggest grip is they state on their responsible lending criteria that they will provide clients with a 'professional service' what rubbish there are worse than mobile phone companies in my opinion. 8 weeks into a… Read Full Review

“Excellent”

Written on: 12/06/2014 by mokabir (1 review written)

With so many negative reviews don't let this put you off. We applied for a mortgage on 24th May 2014 and within 12 working days we have an offer exactly the same as what we applied for. We applied in branch via a mortgage advisor. We had all our documents but were requested to complete and send back a gifted deposit form. This had to be signed by my wife's dad who was gifting us some money. Text alert service kept us updated in terms of progress and survey valuation update. Mortgage advisor… Read Full Review

“Absolutely disgusting behaviour”

Written on: 11/06/2014 by debbie.hull (2 reviews written)

After applying to remortgage, and getting told over the phone they would agree, we had a remortgage in principle. Upon going into our local branch and after an hour of questions we were declined because I work on a zero hour contract! They knew this all along! We have planning permission and builders etc all in place due to our first phone call in April and now no money. We have always paid our way and worked hard for the last 30 odd years and this is a major slap in the face.!!!!!! Why do we… Read Full Review

6 weeks after a further advance mortgage offer in principle was agreed I am no further forwards, I have chased them twice a week only to be fobbed off with excuses after excuses whereas the latest being that my application address does not match the electoral list. I've been with them for 13 years at this address and all correspondence has always been posted here!!! Come on Nationwide, not the kind of service I expect as a long term customer with you… Read Full Review

“DON'T GO THERE!”

Written on: 10/06/2014 by Skyblueblazer (1 review written)

On a fixed deal with Nationwide until next year, so unfortunately tied in. Moving home and need mortgage for less than we have now. Thought the process would be simple and straightforward - absolutely no way! Initial phone appointment we would've been waiting approx 2/3 weeks, so we opted to go into branch, approx. 30miles away. However, when we got to branch, the mortgage advisor said that because we hadn't confirmed the appointment, she didn't have the time to complete our mortgage… Read Full Review

“Nationwide 'Not Fit For Purpose'”

Written on: 05/06/2014 by gxPerry1960 (1 review written)

Well thanks a lot Nationwide!. While still an existing customer of yours all I wanted to do was port my Mortgage, reduce it and buy my new house. Simple? not a bit of it. After the initial acceptance in principal of the amount we wanted, four weeks later we get a reduced offer by £15k thinking it must be some kind of mistake. Ah well just send more pay slips and yet more statements wait another two weeks. Now they offer us £20k less than the first derisory offer! In the meantime we have… Read Full Review

We applied on the same day via a branch mortgage consultant. Proof of savings gifted deposit form etc all submitted. Home valuation survey all ok too. But we keep getting notified by call centre staff that one of the documents of savings is not clear.....We have re submitted that document and is clear as water but for some reason they are not attaching the document to the case and our case does not seem to move. Mortgage advisor is a waste of time....can never get to speak to him. As it's only been 2 weeks I expect this to take a little longer. Hope it all works out......

My offer has come thru 12 working days after application. Had issue with one bank statement not being in correct format. Once submitted in correct format the offer came thru within 24hours. Total delay was 5 days....not Nationwide issue but mainly mine.

avoid at all costs, don't know what they are doing, took 5 weeks to give a much reduced mortgage offer, offered £240 compensation for their ineptitude, still waiting for the money. Went to mortgage broker got a mortgage from Santander in 4 days. Nationwide are a absolute joke do not go anywhere near them, can't get back to same people, waste 2 hours on phone trying to speak to someone, have to wait 3 weeks to get an appointment in branch. If you want stress use Nationwide, if you don't and… Read Full Review

“Can't fault them”

Written on: 19/05/2014 by Project13 (1 review written)

We had to apply for a mortgage twice because the first application got cancelled (our choice it failed valuation etc); due to change in criteria - Nationwide now having to provide advised products - we had to start the process again. To be fair to Nationwide this was fully explained in April, our first application completed over the telephone was fairly quick and the staff who dealt with me where pretty good. More relevant, started new application got DIP again - took a bit longer than first… Read Full Review

“Happy, depsite bad reviews on here”

Written on: 16/05/2014 by JoPich (1 review written)

Last month on the 23rd April, i had an offer accepted on a property. I was off to see my broker the same day and Nationwide was recommended as it had the best rate! I went with it and my Mortgage Agreed in Principle was sent a couple of hours later which was great. Then i had to send a lot of paperwork incl mortgage statements from other b2lets i have, bank statemennts and a pay slip. It was a bit of a pain to get these sent to me from the banks as mortgage statements only come every year… Read Full Review

“3 Months from applying to receiving the Mortgage offer!!!!”

Written on: 03/05/2014 by ArelyO'Brien107 (1 review written)

Appalling service and would certainly not recommend to anyone I liked! Applied 2nd February 2014 and today after many calls finally we have the offer in our hands. Excuses after excuses and we nearly lost our new home over this. The main excuse was that we were 'Caught up in the new rules' these rules where brought in by them on the 16th April so why should that have affected us?… Read Full Review

“5 weeks and still waiting :-(”

Written on: 03/05/2014

Full mortgage application was submitted on 24th March 2014. Money taken out for valuation 2 days after. Nationwide sent text message that the property valuation was satisfactory on 31 March 2014. That was the last time I heard from Nationwide. It's been more than 5 weeks now and still no feedback regarding the status of our mortgage application. I am already losing hope that I will still get the house I wish to buy. I just wonder if is there any way I can track my application? Is this just… Read Full Review
