“storm & rain damage apparently not covered...... ”

Written on: 19/01/2013 by DanD

After 7.5 years of home insurance without a claim, I finally had cause to make a claim with Esure. The result was: - being treated and talked to like a criminal - having to go through the basic details that were provided at the time of taking out the insurance a further 4 or 5 times - Esure did not pay out to cover a very basic risk. Despite having suffered multiple storms and the wettest December on record we were told that "there were no storms / or otherwise extreme weather" - ie... (read more)

Teashoci's Response to DanD's Review

1. To cover storm conditions there must be winds of over 55mph. If winds are below this speed then the claim cannot be covered due to no storm conditions

2. A loss assesor /surveyor visiting the property the next day is very quick. You are obviously a litle impatient.

3. It is your obligation to read the policy book to see what you are covered for, after you signed the doted line.

“Very poor......”

Written on: 27/09/2012 by CarolineUD (1 review written)

Where do I start! Firstly, having hung on the phone for over half an hour I eventually spoke to "customer services". I asked if they would call me back as my phone battery was dying but they were " not obliged" so basically wouldn't. I was ringing to sort out a problem as they had logged that we had had a subsidence claim that had paid out. My new insurers got wind of it and are threatening to cancel in me. We had lodged a potential claim but it was never followed through. The monies... (read more)

“Don't Bother with Unsure!!”

Written on: 26/09/2012 by Dav45 (1 review written)

I took out the home emergency cover for an extra £53.99 and wished I hadn't bothered as it is anything but emergency cover. After realising there was a problem with my central heating with no radiators warming up along with a variety of ominious loud noises emitting from the system I rang esure around 7pm to report the problem. In the meantime although I had turned off everything I could connected with the boiler it was still making a racket and giving us serous cause for concern. After... (read more)

Dav45's Response to Dav45's Review

Update on this claim,
Still no central heating or hot water five days after reporting the faulty boiler,
Second engineer come out from Oracle Gas and briefly made the boiler work announced all was ok and then disappeared upon which the boiler broke down again.
Home Service which provide Esure's Emergency Cover have been unable to contact Oracle Gas because they don't answer the phone after 5pm.
So not a emergancy company at all and just another fly by night outfit that parades itself as an emergency call out company.

“blocked mains sewer resulting in flood, ignored by esure”

Written on: 31/07/2012 by nicksl

I wish i could give them zero stars. My street had a mains sewer blocked resulting in three houses (including mine) having sewerage flowing down the path, driveway and in the garage. I called my home insurer esure for advise on what i should do as some people had advised me i should dispose of anything that came into contact with the sewer water. “Cheap home insurance and claim settled in 5 days!”

Written on: 20/04/2012 by Screenwipe (3 reviews written)

My home insurance is with Sheila's Wheels. Nice and cheap. When I went to make a claim I found that Sheila's Wheels was "created" by esure, so the claim was handled by them. On 12th April I reported that my son had taken my mobile phone swimming LITERALLY! At this stage I wasn't going to make a claim, we were hoping to dry it out. On 16th April I phoned them back to say that the phone was dead. I had shopped around for a replacement phone. Carphone Warehouse had it for £499 but I found my... (read more)

Never previously had to claim on house insurance, but was flooded. Informed esure, who duly told me "it sounds like your policy does not cover this ........... we will call you back within 48 hours". They then failed to do this. I've had to do EVERYTHING myself - esure have not lifted a finger to help, and not what you expect when you have suffered a flood. This is my first ever claim! I had water damage from a very leaky pipe to an upstairs bathroom. Damage was done to the tiles, the box covering the soil pipes, ground floor electrics and ceiling plaster board. The tiles were broken when the leak had to be stopped – to get to the pipe. Esure, said that, for the bathroom, they will only cover the broken tiles – not the rest of the tiles; but may make a contribution for more tiles if no matching tiles can be found and I should ”check... Where do I start! burgled, so go fimd the insurance papers, the only phone number on them is the renewal line. Doesn't it occur to them that the one number you might need in an emergency is the claim line? Anyway, finally get a number, and to be fair we had a guy out within the hour, house made safe - the burglar had physically removed a double glazed window, quite common apparently.

I have been with Esure for 4 years - they would not cover freezer contents after a 2 day power cut in 2010.

I also paid for additional legal cover - this is a scam - in order to represent me in a neighbour dispute they demanded that I provide objective evidence that I would win if the case came to court! Utterly useless.

Rather like the client with the wear and tear fishtank, I have had frost damage as a result of the extreme winter weather to roof tiles. They sent two different so called independent'assessors'who appear to be self-employed or franchisees who spend about 15 minutes to look at the damage and take a couple of pictures. As opposed to other companies, who go through the process of confirming the truthfulness of a claim with a standard validation process, Esure appear to start from the premise that they are not going to pay out on a claim and they then employ every devious and underhand method they can think of to support that viewpoint.

After getting numerous quotes to renew my home insurance Esure was the cheapest by £30-£80.

The cover seems comparable, if not better than the others. On the website it gives you the option to check the premium if you add or subtract items like accidental damage and amount of excess.

I was surprised to find that the premium hardly changed for lowering the excess and including accidental damage.

I've since recommended other people and it has been cheaper for them too. (read more)
