I have had my Saiga 12 for about a year now. It shoots everything but those cheap Wal-Mart loads, (the 100 round 2 dram equivalent ones). It cycles from the shoulder, stock under the arm, and from the hip, and with less recoil than most pumps, and break style shotguns. There were some problems with the sabots opening up one the bird-shot loads, but a muzzle break solved that problem. I added an American made gas puck, to comply with using the high capacity magazines, which also feed great!… Read Full Review

I have a converted (tromix)saiga 12 and except for the sights, which are superfluous on a shotgun, the reliability and simplicity of maintenance has been superb. On the AK platform, the ease of disassembly and cleaning is a plus, though the gas tube usually takes a bit of effort. I can easily go more than 500rounds between cleanings without reliablity problems, and the only issue is the magazines, which have to work without binding or there will be some failure to feed. This is easy to fix with… Read Full Review

The IZHMASH Saiga 12 is a super fun gun to shoot. Easy to field strip, harder to re-assemble. No question about reliability. Zero failures out of the box (after cleaning the stinky stuff it was packed in). It dines on anything it's fed and cries for dessert, more, more, more. 40 yards, 6" groups using Hornady Winchester, Estate, Remiington. If I was younger maybe better. I was looking through generic cheap red dot optics… Read Full Review

The best shotgun i've ever owned, the Izhmash Saiga 12 is well built with that AK x factor. . No need for a high powered rifle and a shotgun this will adequately do both tasks.Good for deer, goats and pigs as well as game bird. My wife even uses it at her work on a vineyard for pest control and bird scaring… Read Full Review

“The Saiga 12 semi-automatic assault shotgun comes in...”

Written on: 14/02/2007 by theshootist (92 reviews written)

The Saiga 12 semi-automatic assault shotgun comes in several variations, most made for tactical situations or close quarters combat scenarios. Since the Saiga 12 must be "sporterized" (pistol grip is removed) before import to the USA, a classic shotgun style stock is retro fitted to the gun. Of course, it is legal and inexpensive to replace the pistol grip, this shotgun has little practical use in the hunting arena. Sabot slugs are the only safe slugs to use in this type of barrel.

In my original review, I mentioned that the magazines were available in , up to, 12 round mags. This was incorrect, I currently have the 5 and a 10 round mag and a 20 round drum can be purchased for $200.00
<br/>Parts are becoming more easily available as are accessories the longer this shotgun remains on the market.
