Good Points: Sturdy machine can make excellent coffee, with the correct quality and grind of coffee.

Bad Points: Noisy. Cups slide about while the pump is working.

General comments: I bought this Morphy Richards 47507 coffee machine to replace the Briel Versatile Due I had been using for the past 2.5 years.

After much research, my long term plan is to buy a Rancilio Sylvia. My research also indicated that you need to get a good grinder for best results. The advice also indicated that the grinder was much more important than the coffee machine, initially. As my budget didn't stretch to both at the same time, I ordered an Iber Ital MC2 coffee ginder and looked for the best compromise coffee machine.

Having read excelelnt reviews on the Morphy Richards 47505 and 47507 coffee machines, I decided on the latest model.

When I got it out of the box, I was pleasantly surprised by the build quality. The Briel at 3 times the price was extremely, flimsy by comparison.

I was disappointed with my fist few cups of coffee, though. A full shot of coffee was delivered in less than 10 seconds. The coffee was thin and the crema non-existent. The Briel had been very forgiving about the grind and quality of the coffee used. I could get a reasonable espresso with a coarse grind.

When my coffee grinder arrived a week after the coffee machine, I tested the coffee machine with the coffee that came out of the grinder. Without any adjustments to the grind, a shot of espresso came through in about 20 seconds. The coffee produced was excellent with a beautiful crema. With firmer tamping, I got the time up to 25 seconds. The coffee was even better.

After 3 months, the coffee machine has broken down. I await a replacement from Morphy Richards.

With the Briel, it took 7 attempts to get a working coffee machine, although 3 of of the attempts were due to being sent the wrong model rather than faulty machines. Therefore this is still a better experience than my previous machine.

I would recommend this to a friend. It was an excellent buy, and the 2 year warranty is also another incentive to purchase this product. I didn't like that I had to find the jug at another store on the other side of town; but it was well worth it once I had that cup of coffee.
