“This kettle has had minimal use in just under 9 months...”

This kettle has had minimal use in just under 9 months and has stopped working. It is nothing special to look at, I bought it because it was not too heavy to pick up and the handle was not too thick to get my hand around, however, it has turned out to be a complete waste of money. The pretty blue light comes on but is of no use as the kettle will not heat up. I am left without a kettle for Christmas.

Do NOT buy.

Had two of these kettles, first only lasted 21 months, the second 30 months before the elements went. Whilst it is a stylish and ergonomically designed kettle, it doesn't perform its primary function for very long and certainly not long enought to justify its high (£50) price tag. Very disappointed in Breville and won't touch them again.

I liked the design and style of this kettle; it looked well made and sturdy. It was easy to fill, the light was useful as was the loud 'ping' when it had boiled. However, style and design are of no use if the product has no lasting durability. Most disappointed - it only lasted 15 months! Durability and value for money -5!

Before making the purchase in future I would check whether the company would provide replacement parts and I would use the internet to ascertain the durability and value for money of any other products on the market made by this company.

Very disappointing, more style than substance. Breville should be ashamed they ever allowed this to be sold. The element went just out of warranty period, in line with many others experience.I won't buy another Breville product again.

On the basis of comments here about the element failing I would not recommend. However, what people may be missing is how to reset the trip switch.

This kettle has a little white trip switch inside the 'socket' of the kettle (not the base unit). If it's not heating, light is not on and the plug fuse is OK, then poke the white trip until it clicks.

Light broken after a few weeks, never repaired, kettle broke and no good just over a year, no better than a cheap kettle.

bought a breville jk71 22 months ago from currys as with new kitchen the old phillips one we had for more than 10 years was looking a bit tatty especially after use by our builders. this product looks great and worked well - until the heater element blew last night - this product should last longer for the £49.99 we paid its maybe worth £10!

For the money paid for the Breville JK71 Kettle (and the fact that it is part of Breville's Cafe Series flagship range!) i would have expected it to last longer. Very good kettle whilst it worked but stopped working after about 18 months. Can't get base off due to strange triangular headed screws but fairly sure the element has packed up.

If you are the sort of person who shops for kitchen appliances as disposables then buy this item.

If you expect things to last - Don't!

The matching toaster is still working though!

Why Breville don't provide Philips/Pozidrive/Torx screws is beyond me. The triangular inserts are presumably for Health & Safety reasons, but we're not all idiots; anyone determined to get into the appliance will succeed, but it's just putting us to more time & trouble to fashion a suitably modified triangular file (or similar).

Just had my second Breville JK71 pack up on me as will not boil. Unable to unscrew base to have a look at element. That's now nearly £100 down the spout in 3 years. No more!

I have been told that there are no replacement parts available for my Breville JK71 and I must return the kettle, at my own expense, to be inspected. This kettle cost me £49.92 and for this amount I would expect it not to fail and to be able to repair it.

Not good enough, would not buy another! We had two but didn't bother getting the second one replaced, as they both lasted about 9 to 10 months and to me that is not long enough. I do not recommend this kettle, it might have nice looks but that's not what you get a kettle for really!

First Breville JK71 blew its heater element after three months. Replacement supplied by Comet under warranty lastyed 18 months before doing the same thing.

Expensive kettle with a short life and no repair parts seem to be available. Do not buy!

Lack of durability , no replacement parts means that this item must be regarded as throw away disposal item which is not reflected in the price. I however, eventually obtained a free of charge replacement from Pulse who now own the brand.

Unfortunately when I bought this Breville JK71 kettle I didn't start using it straight away, when it did break down the year guarantee was out. I would not recommend this kettle to anybody. Breville I thought was a good make and for the price £49.99 I thought it would last.

I thought I was buying an expensive but well made item that would last. 18 months down the line the base has blown and I'm told that it can't be replaced. I won't be buying from Breville again.

The Breville JK71 looks good but a waste of £50. Don't buy this kettle, I advsie you to look elsewhere. Mine broke within a year and the warranty turned out to be very poor.

I have had two of these Breville JK7 in 6 months and they have both blown, ie will not boil water. This is clearly not unusual. Also Breville can't get spares. Do not buy this kettle. It is very expensive, but clearly useless. I would recommend that you look at other reviews on here and I'm sure you will not buy this kettle if you do.
