If you are looking for a great, reliable school computer, then this is the product for you! I purchased this computer as an accessory to my desktop, and mainly for portable school use (DOC or device of choice program) and perhaps internet surfing. However, once I got this great machine, it has become my main computer! Although you may not be able to play the most graphics intense games, this is great for anything you will need it for, whether that be video, music, or word processing. I... (read more)

I received the acer laptop as a present from my dad. The laptop generally is an average laptop with simple and basic features. It has a lovely cinematic view and is great to watch films on. I had a couple of freezing problems but, on the whole the laptop has operated well. However, one huge aspect which is a big disappointment is the rubbish battery life. The laptop quickly runs out of battery and is required charging pretty often. There is a small battery icon on the bottom of the screen... (read more)

Bought an Acer Aspire about six years ago - yeah I know it's a long time to leave before reviewing a product but I was so traumatised by the experience that I'd wiped it from my memory until I just saw one advertised on a website. The story goes: I paid £550 for a beautiful model (can't remember the number again due to erasing it from my mind) whose spec was very good indeed and a lovely wide screen perfect for viewing DVDs etc. Well, I was happy for a while until it developed a BIOS... Really bad laptop, bad service, an awful customer support. Laptop was less than 3 months old when it started to shutdown suddenly and without closing windows. Initially Acer even denied that it was under warranty. In next 3 months it has gone back 4 times and the problem is still not fixed. Lesson learnt? If you buy Acer, keep the box - you're going to need it! (read more)

ACER SERVICE IS EXTREMELY DECEPTIVE. THEY WILL LIE TO TRY TO GET THE CONSUMER TO PAY EXTRA MONEY FOR WARRENTY REPAIR. IN THIS CASE I PURCHASED A 3 YEAR TOTAL COVERAGE CONTRACT. IN CONVERSATION WITH ACER THE NICE PERSON SAID THEY DON'T SELL THESE CONTRACTS. THE SUM TOTAL OF MY EXPERIENCE IS ACER AMERICA WILL DO WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO GET THE CONSUMER TO PAY EXTRA MONEY FOR COVERED SERVICES. IF YOUR GOING TO MAKE A STATEMENT MAKE SURE YOU CAN BACK IT UP ACER. THE AMERICAN CONSUMERS ARE... (read more)

Purchased my acer aspire 5332 18 months ago, 2weeks ago it would not work took it in to a computer shop for them to have look at it, and found that the mother board was broken .to get it replaced it cost me £97-00 Iam very disappionted that after only 18 months that it would cost me nearly £100 to get it repaired. Not very good value for the money I paid for the Laptop.

Okay....So I purchased my refurbished A1 Acer Aspire from Acer direct.co.uk with an extended warranty....Never again.
My first net book arrived covered in chocolate, dirt & nail polish. I understand that refurbished mean second hand, but that before sold to a new user it is made virtually new. Cleaned up & the overall system checked. I requested that I either be sent a replacement (because no body wants to pay for that kind of service) or be given some sort of goodwill gesture.
I was...

I have an Aspire 5536 with 4Gb of memory and a Windows 7 upgrade. I had a problem with poor connectivity to my wireless network but Acer arranged a pick up and replaced the wireless network card within a week or so. That is pretty good support in my mind, although the first time I raised the issue I got a rubbish reply from the support team.
I find it quick to do anything I ask it to do (nothing too demanding), the screen is very clear and the keyboard is good to use too. The mousepad...

Rubbish. I my opinion you would be better off with another make. Mine has Windows 7, it has 4GB RAM yet it takes minutes to come on. There is no bluetooth although there is a button for it, essential in this day and age for connection to mobiles or other bluetooth hardware. There is no firewire or express card port so you cannot connect to camcorder athough you can use it with other cards. It is light and very portable but feels a loittle flimsy as a result. If I knew how slow it was going... (read more)

I recently bought a refurbished netbook A1 condition from from acer direct. As per Acer Direct website A1 condition netbooks should not have any problems and the difference with new is only tardy packaging. At the time of startup, netbook makes a lot of noise which seems to be a faulty fan. Customer service is very poor, I did not get help from them even after sending them number of messages. This notebook is a logical step of the development of a 9500-series of premium class multimedia notebooks. The user receives a set of advanced multimedia features such as big (17-inch widescreen display with a CrystalBrite technology, two lamps lights and excellent color rendition), 512 MB of video RAM (GDDR3 of NVIDIA GeForce Go 7900) and HD DVD - drive (without a carriage, saving space around the laptop) - ideal for viewing DVD-movies, working with graphics or gaming. A great machine that would be one of the top laptops if only Acer woke up and realised that Vista needs at least 2gb of ram to perfom well and that their empowering software is just bloatware and not needed also why do all PC makers install Norton, it will kill a good machine by cutting at least 40% of it performance.
Overall I would by it again and am pleased with it full perfomance and reliability.
Linux operating software is not really compatable at present unless you are using a wired...

Screen packed up after about 18 months. Internal Cabling must be poorly located on hinge or screen is just poor in my opinion. Some keyboard keys becomes unresponsive as other people have mentioned.
I am gutted the screen has basically finished on my acer aspire 1642 WLMI. I use it a lot, but I have only had it less than 2 years.
I do not recommend Acer Aspire Laptops.

Looks good, was fantastic...for 20 months But I wish Id read the Acer Aspire reviews on here before buying. I won't be buying an Acer again. I really looked after it and it broke. When I got it I was really pleased with everything about it but it doesn't seem built to last. Not even 2 years old, it got serious problems. Little response from mouse pad and keyboard. Slow start up - it scans something before it will start. Very slow to shut down and sometimes won't shut down at all, I have to... (read more)

Everything
The camera stopped working after 4 weeks
the screen went pink and was rendered useless after 3 weeks (this came and went Off-on)
it was sent away for repair and came back with broken laches on the cover to the internal components underneath, and in my experience with a non working CD drive therefore I do not recommend Acer Aspire.

After few days I bought it, it kept turning off all by itself without notification, no matter the operating system I used on it, even it was designed for vista and the drivers were for vista I first installed xp with drivers from the internet and after I have noticed the problems I figured it might be the windows that causes those problems and I have installed vista, unfortunately the problems persisted. Now I have returned it to the place I have bought and requested my money back, I have... (read more)

This is my first proper new laptop and it's been brilliant mainly, only had a few problems with vista (all my others had XP) so and it takes a while to load everything to start with until you find where to shut the rubbish off, it could come with more memory but thats not too hard to sort, other then that it's been great, never had problems other people have talked about, yeah vista can lag but it gets there eventually and it's never crashed yet so it's a good little laptop, value wise it... Thought is would be a good laptop for price but hard drive went out and extended warranty doesn't cover it.
Better off buying another product other than Acer. It may cost a little more money but you will come out better in the long run. No more Acer.

My daughter spilled some pop on the keyboard. I am a computer tech, so I removed the keyboard, cleaned the spill and tested the laptop with an extern keyboard the machine is fine. However the 'd' key is stuck on internal to the keyboard circuit which is not repairable. I tried to order a replacement keyboard and was told I need to send it to Acer at a cost of $449us. All this for a laptop that 6 weeks ago cost $899cdn.
I will Never by Acer products again.

Same happened to me, I think its disgusting that after the warranty ran out the motherboard packed up. I was quoted £140 not best pleased and vowed never to buy Acer again.
