I paid £25 for my granddaughter to go on a 1 hour pony village ride. She left the stables at 10·05 and as I left my camera I went home to get it and was back at the stables by 10·45. I waited for 5 minutes thinking I would take some pictures of her coming back to the stables. When there was no sign of her I decided to wait for her inside the stables and was surprised to find she was there waiting for me and had been waiting for quite a while. So while I paid for 1hour she probably only had half an hour. This is not the first time this has happened and I know I should complain directly to them, but as we only visit a few times I didn't feel able to. I won't be going again, I don't begrudge paying for my granddaughter but if I am paying for an hour I expect the ride to last an hour. So beware.

i discovered murthwaite green on groupon and had my first experience with them in march 2013, it was amazing..the staff are lovely, experienced and well organised. the horses are fab well trained well behaved..sometimes a little cheeky but all adorable and in beautiful condition. the beach rides i have been on have been fast and furiuos just what you need to blow the cobwebs away. there usually mixed abilities out on the rides and the staff are great and organise group trott, canters and gallops and you choose what you want to join in with..i cant recommend this place enough..im on my 5th visit this year in a few weeks and i am counting down they days.

Just come back from my second fabulous beach ride at Murthwaite. I went last summer when I found this lovely friendly yard by chance. I made the trip up to Cumbria from Shropshire this year because there is nothing like galloping up the beach here. The horses are fresh, love the beach but careful with the riders. The staff really managed the group of mixed experience riders very successfully. Everyone was tested in the school for ability and the horses looked exceptionally well, particularly as we are just coming out of a bad winter. The website is true to experience. I've already booked my return trip!

Horses looked unhappy, old and tired, badly fitting saddles some had loose shoes/missing shoes/no shoes! ... had to fill a form in before even getting on the horse (like an application form!) Did not enjoy the experience at all, we were all given a whip before we set off, horses just trudged along nose-to-tail... poor things only got a 10 minute break till next trek, no food or water. Vicky the trek leader was bossy and forever giving orders. paid £31 for an hour & half, was only on the beach about 20 mins. Money seemed like the main objective and not the horses' happiness.

I have been going to Murthwaite since I was around 7 years old (Now 15) for a treat when I go on holiday in Cumbria. I first rode a lovely little pony called Pinto - who I believe is now retired - he was perfectly suited to my needs back then as I could only walk and trot. Since then I have been for a brilliant jumping lesson on a cheeky little hose called Connie and about 3 more real gallops on the beach on either Dougal (my fave pony there!) or Pinto. One of these gallops was a one-to-one and one of the best days of my life galloping along the sands and splashing about in the sea. I have to say they have taught me there really isn't anything much better than a gallop full speed across the beach. Haven't been in a couple of years but I will definitely be hoping to go again very soon!

Went here two summers ago while on holiday in the Lake District. I thoroughly enjoyed myself on the 2 hour beach ride and hope to return again soon. My horse was a little excitable but this did not spoil the ride. The scenery was lovely and there was a great friendly, community spirit in the yard. Staff are relaxed and friendly and put you at ease. Horses are very well cared for and the yard is tidy. Here was where I discovered that there is nothing better than a gallop on the beach.

Had our First trip to Murthwaite Green stables for a beach ride this month.
Emma took us out in the wind and rain... got to the beach then the fun started. We had many superb gallops along the beach and totally forgot the rain.
We have done a few beach rides recently and can honestly say this was the best yet.Emma was relaxed and very friendly, as were all the staff at the stables, and we could all enjoy the gallops.
Want to say a real big thanks to Emma for a brilliant ride and of course a huge thanks to out lovely horses Apache and Father Ted.
We have already booked our next ride and are looking to book a three day extravagansa in sept !
Highly recommended.

It was amazing. I just want to say in my last review I wrote the fell rides as a bad point I did not mean it as one. It was a brilliant holiday and I would definitely recommend it for everyone- Beginners, mixed ability groups, intermediate and advanced riders. Everyone was friendly and welcoming.

I had a riding holiday here and it was fantastic. Its situated in Silecroft the middle of nowhere but its so nice. Murthwaite green brings business to the area and helps out the pubs ect Which we think is great. The beach rides were amazing those who dont want to gallop go ahead with an guide then the others stay behind with the other guide and gallop up to them. All the horses are really great I was amazed at how forward they all are. You get to help out and the horses get to go out in the field and are not overworked. I hope to go back next year. Also the food is great and staff were really nice, the owner of the BandB gave us milk for coffee, towels and very eco-friendly but not over the top.

I went on a two hour beach ride today on an amazing pony called Jack. He was perfect, didn't put a foot wrong. On the beach he was willing for a good gallop which I thought was great but when he saw the other horses ahead he slowed down and was not too strong. Everybody on the ride thoroughly enjoyed themselves and there was a mixture of complete novices to experienced riders. The two hour ride cost only £26 which I thought was very reasonable. The Staff made sure that you could canter in the menage before taking you onto the beach and if you weren't confident to go fast, you didn't have to. I will definately go back and would really recommend it to others.

Had a fantastic ride along the beach. All horses were very well behaved and responsive. Escorts were great fun and very knowledgeable. Highly recommend.
