Besides reading reviews here...if you just do some simple inquiries they all say to make sure to get the extra inxurance, add the tire and mirror insurance and that every rental company will hold an amount on your credit card for possible damage etc. Once I saw these tips online, that is exactly what I requested in my quote and exactly what we got when we rented it. The other Tip I found online was to never book a car rental in a package because the package deal ( to make it such a deal ) only offer the basics.

I recently rented a car with Dan Dooley in Shannon Airport. Being 21, it is impossible to find a car rental company who will accept your business, but Dan Dooley did. I paid '160 for two days on a Fiat Punto with an insurance excess included in the price. It was expensive, but then again, Im male and 21 so I'm asking for it to be honest! Please note, they don't accept cash. Overall, a pleasant experience. It seems like the Dublin Branch seems to be far more troublesome than the helpful people at Shannon!

We are an ex-pat family and have used Dan Dooley for a number of years now, primarily for vacation rentals in Munster, and so primarily renting in Shannon. Staff have been helpful and courteous (and remarkably stable from year to year). Vehicles have been as advertised, reasonably low mileage (3000 - 25000 Km) and in good condition. Hub-caps ARE often held on by nylon ties, as someone else points out, but that's to save losing them on a bumpy country road and having to pay for the replacement. Given the state of the boreens on the Beara peninsula (where we often visit) I would far rather have the nylon ties!
The only issue I have ever had with mechanical problem on a car was a puncture well away from civilization and then not being able to find the "key" for the wheel-nut locks. It was there, just not easy to find. I make a habit of asking the staff to help me find it now before leaving the lot if I ever rent a car with the wheel locks.
Rates, when one factors in insurance (particularly now when most platinum cards have dropped Irish coverage) are very good; almost always cheaper than any other on-airport alternative.
