    Good Points: Cheap, agreed price, no extras. Nice almost new vehicle. Free upgrade. No problems. We left some papers behind when we returned the car. They were delivered very promptly to the airport.


    Bad Points: No users handbook. No handover. Lousy road map. Not cleaned.


    General comments: We had to sign the hire agreement at the airport to the effect that we accepted Dooley's damage assessment, before we saw the car. We were assured that there would be a chance to review that at pick up. The mini bus driver dropped us off at the depot, gave us the keys wished us a nice holiday and disappeared again in the minibus. (We took photos of every nick. ) There was nobody else there. Probably we got what we paid for, but we're not confident that the experience would have been good if we had any problems. Would it be with any car hire company?

    We returned our rental car, a large truck had thrown a pebble and put a very tiny nick in the windshield. We told the person at the desk.
    Upon our return home we discovered that we had been charged over $1600 USD for the nick! We are having this issue investigated. Our travel agent arranged insurance in the original amount paid (our rental was prepaid), but upon arriving we were told we had to put a deposit down or we couldn't rent the car! I do not recommend this car rental or the travel agen ...

    No Hidden Extras doesn't imply that we were charged 60 euros immediately to our credit card and then when you return the car with a full tank they don't always agree - in my case 9 euros to be deducted from the refund, which I have yet to receive a week later.
    Certainly wont be using them again.

    Customer service was awful. They tried to charge us for a missing spare wheel that was never there in the first place when they gave us our car. Additionally, they started off speaking English and then changed to speaking Gaelic on the phone when they were discussing the missing wheel. We were never even given the opportunity to look over the vehicle when they gave us the car and we never signed anything to accept the car as is.     We are an ex-pat family and have used Dan Dooley for a number of years now, primarily for vacation rentals in Munster, and so primarily renting in Shannon. Staff have been helpful and courteous (and remarkably stable from year to year). Vehicles have been as advertised, reasonably low mileage (3000 - 25000 Km) and in good condition. Hub-caps ARE often held on by nylon ties, as someone else points out, but that's to save losing them on a bumpy country road and having to pay for the replacement ...

    My friends and I experienced a flat tire on our trip with a car from Dan Dooley, which we felt was caused by a tire initially mounted on a bent rim. Dooley personnel however, waisted no time in charging us for a new wheel and tire. Although we pointed to the other bent rims of the car stating that was the general condition of the car we received, they however, still denied our claim.

    Even though I initially liked the company, I would never work with them again. My experience left me with a bad taste in my mouth. I tried to resolve this through the credit card company but Dooley never provided documents to prove their actual costs (detailed billing) and Wells Fargo chose to believe them. I would not recommend working with them and, in fact, are actively telling people NOT to use this company. If you do, get the highest level of insurance to protect yourself.
