Bad Points: The set didn't work after 6 months and could not be fixed. We paid about $l200.

General comments: We bought a Sharp Aquos at Ultimate Electronics in Glendale, Arizona Christmas of 2006 and after about 6 months. of use, the sound stopped working; excellent picture, but no sound. It was extremely aggravating. So, we took the flat screen to Dynatronics in Phx., Ariz - and after about $250, we got the set home and used it for about another 3 months. Then, it stopped turning on. So, we took it back to Dynatronics and they said the set was no good, and blew up when they tried to refix it. I am disgusted and I will never buy another Sharp product.

Great design and easy to use functions
The picture quality is above average, good sharpness and contrast but poor color saturation.
Good price if you are looking for an entry level TV, but consider either Panasonic or Samsung as a primary set
Therefore I do not recommend Sharp Aquos LC42XD1E.

The Sharp Aquos LC42XD1E is generally good, value for money is good, missing 100 Hz tech & not enough contrast (1,200:1 !)

Good for price, accessible inputs, very good HD picture quality, very good black levels. Slow menus, bad position of headphone output, and headphone output turns of main speakers. Big sound delay from TV speakers. You get echo effect if you try to use TV speakers together with home stereo. OPC is not very good; auto adjustment to back light is very noticeable. It is pointless to buy this TV if you don't have hi res TV signals.

Sharp Aquos LC42XD1E is the best LCD in it's price range. If it wasn't for the slight banding, mediocre audio and disgusting EPG, it would be a clear 10/10.

Sharp's LC42XD1E 1080p specification makes it compabitle with the latest HD technology. It could be better equipped with connectivity features to get the most out of it but still won't fail to impress.
