When it works, the DVR160 is a very good, affordable system with all the features you'd want. However, as others state, it's prone to bugs. System freezes where none of the controls work have happened several times, requiring mains disconnection. Sometimes programmes get bugged on playback or record, either missing bits, or as today, halfway through the recording it skips randomly through the show. Slow rewind shows it's all there, but it won't let us watch! Errors occur every 10 to 15 recordings at a guess.
If there was a bug fix firmware update, it'd be perfect 5* must-buy product. However there's no real Digihome company (it's a badge of Vestel who will rebadge for Tesco, Argos etc.), so there are no updates. I'll never buy Digihome again.

The Digihome PVR80/160 recorder was a lot of trouble. Remote would turn machine off but not on. Even manual use of button on set often did not work until third try. Picture inclined to sieze. Because of this recordings poor or only partially made. We returned the set.- Read Guest's review (48 words)

The Digihome PVR80/160 is Easy to use, great picture when it works ...
Not reliable in my opinion. Sometimes locks up, tuner section more prone to break up/loss of signal than my Thomson DTI 1000 set top box. Cannot seem to rely on recording from the `Guide'. No upgrades to software available.
Potentially very good product, but too unreliable for comfort. Returning to Argos for refund. Argos now listing an ALBA machine in what looks like the same casing ... ? (March 2009).- Read omega2498's review (79 words)

After several months, whenever I tried to record, the picture and sound jumped so much that the recording was hopeless. I re-tuned the unit several times; turned off the electricity supply from the mains; but still the problem persisted. In the end, while trying to record, I picked up the unit and thumped its underside. That fixed the problem!- Read Guest's review (67 words)

Simple to use, it doesn't even need a child to program it. Good capacity, it took us over a year to get near filling the disk. A good machine ruined by badly tested software and unhelpful support in my experience I feel. I would never buy another of that brand. Do not recommend the Digihome PVR80/160.- Read Guest's review (130 words)

I contacted Digihome but they were not much help, asked me to check my ariel (which is less than 5 years old) and get a signal booster (which I have anyway) So I am no further forward at this stage. I would be glad to hear from anyone whi might have a solution.- Read JT1000's review (76 words)

When it freezes you either have to unplug it to restart it. Which is a pain as I can't get to the plug. But found that if I press and hold the power button for about 5 seconds, it then resets it and does a disk check after a few minutes its then restarts and works as normal. I use this as a reminder to start deleting things from the library.- Read Guest's review (111 words)

Good product when working had problems after 6mths took it back to Argos exchanged no problem other one has gone from working after 14 months hard drive problem phoned up helpline but no joy as it is out of guarantee. Overall, I think these products should last a little bit longer than over the 12mths guarantee period- Read geocou47's review (56 words)

For something electronic to play up after only 18 months is not really good enough, as digi is the tv of the future, so what chance do we stand of being able to afford to watch telly if units fail at this rate. Cannot afford a new box at the moment so my pvr80 was a waste of money.- Read Guest's review (88 words)

Had the first Digihome PVR80/160 for 2 months it stopped receiving TV Channels altogether but could pay all recorded programs. For the technical the RF stage had gone down. It was replaced by Argos where we bought it, no fuss. Now 15 months and out of guarantee the replacement has exactly the same fault.Electronic items should last longer than 15 months. Argos say it's not a repairable item.- Read Guest's review (79 words)

Just updated from the old style 80g model to the new style160g which has a whole host of new features, as does the new 80g model, including record 2 channels whilst watching another and series recording, I believe the new features are due to the new "Freeveiw playback" code which means any PVR showing this logo has to come up to the new standard.- Read 28v6's review (64 words)

when watching recorded items why does the sound go off, to get it back i press stop then play to get sound back. Also i have had it freeze up on me at playback, it then renders useless.
the box will perform nothing. i have to turn the power off at the socket, put it back on and allow the box to re-install, luckily everything recorded is still on the hard drive. Would love to know if other people are experiencing the same- Read richdor's review (86 words and 1 comment)

No software updates as yet, makes me feel uneasy
Can only record one prog at a time
Can only time shift after pausing, not at any time as with sagem.

Having just come to the end of my tether with a ferociously complicated JVC combined VHS and DVD recorder I was ready to give up tv altoghether so to get something which was a) cheap. B) useable is fantastic.
Go for the 160GB version if you can afford to - once you've got some films recorded you start to eat into the disk space.- Read Guest's review (117 words)
