If you can find one that has been looked after and serviced properly its worth keeping hold of as it will serve you for many miles and put a smile on your face everytime you drive it.

A must have car for for a wannabe racer. Not recommended for crazy folk to drive on the road, a proper track car.

Spent thousands on it & it still isn't finished, blue printed engine, scorpion exhaust, blitz induction, superchipped, black diamond discs, lowered45mm, pushing out 165bhp at the front wheels.
I am in the middle of redoing bodywork for respray phoenix orange with a gold pearl, gonna look sweet.

I had probably one of the last Corolla GTi-16's registered. It was a K reg. I never saw another K reg one. I was 18 when I bought it and had it 4.5 years. It was a great car and I have fond memories of it. I spent a fortune modifying it. Fastest 1/4 mile I got was 16.3 at santa pod. Not exactly fast but not bad for what it is. I sold my Corolla for £1800 in 2002. I'm not quite sure how, but the picture in the top left is of my car! No idea how it got on here though!

First I have got to say, I am always going to own a twinnie no matter what other car I get. I've had two Toyota Corolla GTi-16 Twin cams so far, my first one was absolutely mint nothing wrong whatsoever, completely standard with 79K FTSH 1 owner. Owned the car for two years not a single problem. Had a mongoose system, blitz filter, power boost valve, Apexi SAFC (super air flow controller) rev limiter was raised to 8,000 with this controller, sound system, DVD payer, tints on a gleaming red. Tops I got out of this was 146 mph (on camcorder). Kept for two and a half years and brother ended up smashin it like a hero. Most things were taken out - engine, clutch, gearbox, windows, doors, boot lid, seats etc etc. Bought another white one with scorpion system, wheels 106K FTSH paid 350. Bad points are all arches have rust and sunroof, no probs though £400 paint job in gleaming black and it'll be looking sick. Engine mods will be going onto this also ordered HKS Cams and pulleys and HKS springs and HKS head gasket plugs and leads, car should definately be flying then.

I've owned one of these beauties for around 5 years, of which my Toyota Corolla GTi-16 Twin cam has been off the road numerous times due to body repairs. But I love it and can't part from it. Typical Japanese expense - but worth it. Looks a little dated compared to rivals (Golfs, crxs ect) but with the right mods; simple rims and lowered, it can look sleek and menacing. Plenty of get up and go from standard lump, and loves to be screamed into the high revs. Look carefully for a good one.

Ive had a Toyota Corolla GTi-16 Twin cam for 3 years and loved every moment, I paid £1300 for an '88 E reg, value for money is superb, electric windows, electric sunroof, e/m, power stering, 3 point adjustable seat lumber, height adjust sterring, battery meter, oil pressure, even an economy light. I have since added a full stainless exhaust with only 1 box (£400) and a performance air filter (£200). The noise it makes is great if you like that sort of thing, I can quite easily put most 1.6 hot hatches in the mud, this weapon will go alongside a standered RS Turbo. The best thing is the high revs it can reach, and ability to change gear smoothly and quickly is helped by the spring mounted gear knob. The car was runs like a dream even with 133,000 on the clock. The bad news is that I had an accident and it is now off the road and i'm saving every penny to get is back up and running with the intention of an engine upgrade 1.6 supercharged can't wait.

Toyota Corolla GTi-16 Twin cam is Absolute brilliance, nearly 16 years old and still a beast, fast, gorgeous (with the new alloys) electrics all round, power steering. Parts can be pricey, and hard to find but keep it well maintained and it will pay for itself (just bought a new gearbox for mine (£240 inc. fitting) as it kept slipping out of 5th- common on corolla GTI's a 5th gear sync problem but it has done 110k ). Other than that, zero maintinence, other than servicing! They are getting rare now so I think that in a few years time, pristine examples may go up in price.

I bought my Toyota Corolla GTi-16 Twin cam off a friend and did not really like it when he had it, but because he sold it to me cheap I bought it. Thank god I did cos these cars are the best! I never rated Toyota's before and always stuck to Ford's but now i'm hooked,Ive never drove a car this old and felt like ive been driving a brand new one, And after talking to other owners i know it's true of all corolla Gti's that are in good nick. In short a great car.
