Good Points: Compact, Hi-Fi Quality sound, Features, Looks. DVD playback via HDMI connection superb.
Bad Points: Poor quality remote, Up scaler no better than that in my TV. Only 2.1.
General comments: I have owned this unit for six months now and I must say that despite its flaws I love this unit. It looks and feels like a quality build. Before I go any further I must say I am using the unit with some excellent speakers and sub. AS1 Cost 625), so I feel I am getting the best of the unit audio wise. TV is a Sam sung le37r88 (600ish). I will start with the flaws, remote, I opened the box and boy was I disappointed, it does everything it needs to but it just don,t feel good to hold, buttons are not well layed out and are small. This does not cause me any concerns now as I now use a universal remote. Upscaler, don't buy this unit for the up scaling feature, if you already have a high definition TV this will take whatever signal you feed into it and convert to its own native resolution. I found that if I used the upscale feature I noticed a drop in picture quality not an improvement. I use the HDMI connection and I leave this at the default setting. That said I must say that I am more than happy with the picture quality, I feel no urge to purchase blu ray or HD DVD yet. 2.1 Audio, this for me is the biggest disappointment. To get a cinema sound you still need an AV .The good points. Sound quality, this is where this unit excels it is superb I simply can not praise it enough at this price point. My previous amp was Arcam Alpha 9 (450) and while the Teac it not as loud it sounds so much more involving, it is a pleasure to listen to.USB Socket, I don,t use my cd`s anymore. I have a 40Gb Hard drive with 28Gb of music which is about 400 cd`s plugged into the USB socket. When you first switch it on it takes about 3 minutes to read the drive (which must be FAT32 formatted) but once it has done this you have full access to your music collection using the on screen display. This is so useful. The USB socket will also read j pegs & amp; DIVX & amp; XVID video files.Buy this unit it will be the center of your home entertainment package, but to get the most out of it buy a decent universal remote & some sort of external storage for your music pictures and videos.
