“so disappointed ”

Written on: 26/05/2016 by Schofield185 (1 review written)

I broke down on motorway. Waited over 60 minutes for patrol to get to me despite being told 30 minutes.when patrol arrived was told he was only there to get me off motorway.was towed off motorway and damage done to my car during process which was minimalized by the man. Then waited another 45 minutes to be collected by another tow truck then driven to another point why my vehicle was transferred to yet another recovery truck.my final journey was a complete nightmare being driven by a man who… Read Full Review

“Car Insurance”

Written on: 23/05/2016 by 132Dickey (1 review written)

Having decided to pay extra per month, to ensure I received better car insurance, I am surprised by the Service I received by The RAC (in my eyes a reputable company). After a car hit me in the rear last year, I informed them (call centre) only to be given a list of numbers to arrange everything myself, (car hire, legal, underwriters etc) I thought that was the service I was paying them for... hire car was late on arriving and old car was taken away finally after 5 days, very disappointed with… Read Full Review

“ETAs changed 4 times!”

Written on: 29/04/2016 by 403Martinez (1 review written)

My sons car broke down...non starter. We have been members of the RAC for over three years and not once called them. We got an ETS of 1 hour, then three hours then two hours and now 3.5hrs! Was not happy so we said we would look to finding another breakdown service coy for the future and the guy said....ok then! I had previously been with AA for 10 years plus and only changed because of the Tesco's Clubcard vouchers that allows you to use to purchase membership but no more! RAC really is not… Read Full Review

“ European Breakdown disaster”

Written on: 26/04/2016 by another1959 (5 reviews written)

Finally an end to my RAC European Breakdown fiasco. I have previously written about the issues - poor support, not getting the hire car we should have, not getting a hotel because we couldn't get there. The European breakdown lot were AWFUL - LIED about the level of cover we got. Ruined holiday and home early. This was 4 years ago....... I took them to the Financial Services Ombudsman and we won! - but it was only minor compensation (£250)which was less than the RAC saved by not supplying us… Read Full Review

“Do not waste your money !!!”

Written on: 15/04/2016 by McLaughlin26 (1 review written)

Been with rac for years with top all singing all dancing cover. Needed them once and were totally let down. Broke down at midnight some random truck turned up NOT AN RAC ENGINEER hadn't got a clue what was wrong with the car . I was on my way to work he REFUSED to continue my journey (lost a day's pay) and would only take me home as all garages were closed at that time of night. The following morning I rang rac to take my car to nearest garage and they wanted to charge me £85 needless to say… Read Full Review

“Roadside help was appreciated”

Written on: 12/04/2016 by matthewmaher (3 reviews written)

I recently broke down on the M25 near St Albans. I had managed to park up on the side of the road and called the RAC to help get my car working. I waited about 40 mins and once the man turned up he managed to get the car started and send me on my way. Apparently it was a electrical problem and it shouldn't trouble me any more. let's hope that is the case. I would liek to say thanks for helping me out… Read Full Review

“Helpful and effective service”

Written on: 03/04/2016 by Graham332 (1 review written)

Called because suffered engine failure. Was told could be up to 2 hours as very busy, but came in 1 1/2 hours. Very helpful patrolman who confirmed our fears that engine was finished, then called for a recovery vehicle; came in 1/2 hour, also friendly and helpful; took us and car to nominated garage and then drove us home. A bad afternoon but good and friendly service… Read Full Review

My two daughters were taking my grandson up the M6 to Preston Hospital when they broke down on the M6 at jnc 32. They called the RAC and they said eta 40 mins, he was there in about 25 mins and was amazing he took charge and enabled myself with one of my daughters and my grandson to get on our way to the Hospital. He then helped my other daughter and my husband to get off the M6 and took the vehicle home for her whilst she came to the Hospital to be with her son. He was calm knew his job and we… Read Full Review

“Fantastic service”

Written on: 28/03/2016 by Keredwin (1 review written)

I rang them up this morning at 11.05. A warning light had started flashing on my dashboard and the car was juddering. When I rang I got a recorded message saying they were extremely busy but my call was answered immediately. The lady on the phone was lovely. She said that they would be with me in about 45 minutes. 20 minutes later they turned up. The gentlemen did a few checks by plugging in his computer to my car, he found the fault straight away , explains what was causing the problem and… Read Full Review

“Do Not Use RAC”

Written on: 12/03/2016 by Darion467 (1 review written)

Apparently RAC Breakdown is included as part of my Aviva insurance. Resulting from potholes on roads in west London my car suffered a damaged tyre. Although it was a 'run flat' it did not survive the journey and RAC Breakdown was asked to attend on the M40. Initially we were informed that as the breakdown was on a Motorway attendance would be within 45 minutes. After 75 minutes another call was made and we were told attendance would be in a further 10 minutes. After 30 minutes we were… Read Full Review

“What a rip off. I cancelled my Rac membership but...”

Written on: 12/03/2016 by Ricky1114 (1 review written)

What a rip off. I cancelled my Rac membership but still got charged a whopping 172 pounds for break down cover taken from my bank account. 1) How could it even be 172 pounds for break down cover? 2) I rang up to complaining and get a refund but im told they didnt take anything from my bank account and I have no Rac coverage at my current or old addresses. They tell me I need to show proof of the funds going out of my account. I print out and send off proof and I then get a letter saying… Read Full Review

“Disgusting service”

Written on: 04/03/2016 by RACarecrap (1 review written)

Used RAC or their breakdown service after I was involved in an accident They offered to also deal with the claim through their accident department on behalf of my insurance company. Feedback was non existent, arranged a hire car for me through thrifty car hire (the worst car hire company in existence) returned the car, two days later thrifty claimed I'd damaged the wheel and demanded pant for repair. I ended up having to make 40+ phone calls to resolve the claim myself All RAC are interested in… Read Full Review

“Appalling service”

Written on: 09/02/2016 by marjram (1 review written)

My VW Sharan broke down in Sheffield. After a long wait (RAC sent rescue van to Stafford!) we were towed to an RAC Approved Garage. This garage just were not interested in repairing my car, never returned my calls, strung me along for 2 weeks .. it will be ready tomorrow etc. In the end they replaced the oil pump and turbo, cost £1700. The didn't replace the oil filter or flush engine (which should be a minimum standard). A week later we were driving along M4 when same problem re-occured. RAC… Read Full Review

NO ASSISTANCE..Called again and apparently my call was not logged...4 hrs after. No Lunch, felt abandoned in a strange cold place..offered another service which will take another 50 minutes...Total time I had to wait was 4 hrs..50 minutes!! I… Read Full Review

“Rubbish Service!”

Written on: 27/01/2016

My Nissan Juke (3 months old) broke down in the West Midlands (drove from London) on weekend of 16 January 2016. Nissan are supposedly in Partnership with RAC Breakdown for incidents such as this. I called RAC who recovered me back to Westway Nissan and then the nightmare began! RAC fobbed me off to Euro Car Hire who offered me a manual car (I only have an Auto license) although I kept trying to explain this fact, no one was interested. I tried calling RAC back but they kept saying I need… Read Full Review

“Exceptional!”

Written on: 26/01/2016 by 264Jarvis (1 review written)

I recently changed my breakdown cover over to RAC, oh boy - am I glad that I did... I had reason to call them today, due to a horrific noise what seemed to be coming from the engine. The chap came out ahead of the time promised. He listened intently to my prognosis, we then took the car for a run, straight away he had a really good idea what the problem was. Would you beleive that I had a tyre that wasn't bolted on properly and was in danger of falling off..... He fixed the problem straight… Read Full Review

“RAC - Really Abysmal Company”

Written on: 23/01/2016 by Moses50 (1 review written)

Had double puncture on lonely B road - first time I ever rang RAC (Really Abysmal Company) to be informed that punctures were not covered as this classed as an accident and not a breakdown and that I should have read the Terms and Conditions (this despite the fact that my card and your card clearly states Accident and Breakdown). The "jobs worth" of an operator "kindly" informed me that they could arrange for a Recovery vehicle to be sent but this would ether be reclaimed off my insurance or I… Read Full Review
