“No Response to phone Calls!!”

My young son's car broke down last night about midnight, he tried to get through to RAC on the number provided only to be put through to an automated voice. After an hour of him and myself (i was at home) still trying to get through, he pushed the car to a safe area (but on yellow lines) and gave up. As he broke down in a "undesirable area" to be on his own, I arranged for a taxi to pick him up and bring him home. “Absolutely Rubbish ”

12 hours to recover car in London. Three promised return phone calls that didn't happen. 90 minute call waiting time for phone to be answered. Two young children (3 and 10) left for 7 and half hours with no lights etc. The service is absolutely atrocious. as a gold warranty member i am absoloutly disgusted with he way i was treated today in my experience with m car i was completly lied to when taking out this policy into thinking i would be stress free and everything wascovered i was told upon my car breaking down i would be given a courtesy car as standard this was not the case as even though it over easter period and my car cannot be seen til early next week to be fixed i have to go without my car losing time from work and my disabled son whos… Read Full Review

I broke down on the M25 hard shoulder with my 10yr old daughter. I broke down at 7o'clock in the evening, after being advised the patrol would be 45mins, it turns up an hour & half later! I'm then towed to a the local services. For the patrolman to decide that if he tows me home he would finish 20 mins over his shift time!! He refuses to tow my daughter & I home! “RUBBISH BREAKDOWN SERVICE AND WORST COMPLAINTS DEPT.”

Having made a complaint to RAC about a 5 hour wait I received a letter promising all sorts of replies within a certain amount of time. Got nothing but a £50 cheque in the post, not even a compliment slip saying sorry. This is what they do, fob you off with £50 with no explanation of what went wrong. Their documents state limitations of time to reply to you or ring you and I have heard nothing. If something goes wrong their complaints dept are worse than the breakdown service they supply… Read Full Review

When you have to call upon your breakdown cover you want them to be quick and professional. I'm not sure what has happened to the RAC in the last 3 years since I used my breakdown last but so far I am not impressed. Customer services sound sound like they couldn't give a monkeys and want you off the phone as quickly as possible. I've used the RAC for 23 years. Over that time I've has some ropey cars and needed the odd call out. They've always been reasonably good. I've continued to pay the 'premium price' of RAC based on this That was then, this is now. Today my battery died in the cold weather. Fine, it was cold last night, a classic symptom. I broke down - burning clutch? Gearbox. Told RAC would need to be recovered at 2.05. They confirmed very busy (that old chestnut!!!), ETA 3.30. Well a small van arrived at 4.15. Guess what it could not repair or recover ( 2 OAP's in car!) he left saying it would be a further 2 - 3 hrs and the RAC would contact next 10 mins.... 2 hrs later I had to contact them. Being an ex rac warranty dealer, The warranties provided by this company, Are Rubbish, Due ti the high cost and promises made by them, It would seem that they are only interested in collecting your money. Spent from 7.30pm tonight waiting for the RAC to come and deal with a problem tire on my friend's car. Was told it would be a couple of hours - even though we are retired ladies waiting in a private unlit carpark - by 3.5 hours later still no sign of the RAC. They then said they were sending a taxi to take us home and would get my friend back to her car tomorrow morning. Waited 80 minutes for a taxi we were told would be 15 minutes. Do not under any circumstances enter in to a breakdown cover policy with the RAC. They will try to tie you in forever, by sending renewals with a 'you must tell us if it not required clause' written in. Our first year was £44, then suddenly it rose to £85 the following year. As we missed the deadline, but cancelled later, they said we could still cancel for the period we had the cover (6 weeks) plus an 'admin fee' Guess what? the amount came to £85. rac cover states if you have a puncture on your motorcycle don't worry we can fix ,not true I had puncture on a9 100 mls from home on my trike in the middle of no where to be told cant help you we don't fix tires with tubes in them no mechanic was sent out just a contractor with a flat bed to recover me,and iam ablue badge holder and waited 3hrs,they offered me 20 poud for my trouble going to cancel membership… Read Full Review
