After breaking down on the M62 after a long day at work, I contacted the RAC with who I have full recovery, for assistance at 11.00 pm, after taking a considerable length of time before answering, being told as it was priority due to been on the motorway would be there in 45 mins,by one of their recovery agents, after waiting over a hour and a half, I contacted RAC again at 12.40 am yet again a long time before answering, to be told that the first agent could not cover the breakdown, another… Read Full Review

“Disgarceful”

Broke down on the A47 with my wife daughter & four dogs. Phoned the RAC got told they would be with us in 45 mins, couple of phone calls and 2 & a half hours later some one shows up. He was helpful couldn't get the car going so phoned for a recovery truck. Stated we are on a high priority list as the place was unsafe had a child with as and my wife is disabled and can not take her medication with out food. Yesterday (8 August) I had a breakdown on the journey to Portsmouth with myh KIA. I contacted the RAC and was informed that the engineer would be with me within 25 minutes. He arrived with a cheerful reassuring smile within 20 minutes and immediately identified the problem. Half an hour later the repair was completed and we were able to proceed on our journey. Car failed to start. Patrol attended and diagnosed crank sensor which could not be done at roadside. Recovery to garage recommended but since it was after 7 pm garage was closed. Patrol advised me to call in the morning and car would be recovered to the garage. I rang the garage who could not take the car till Monday due to lack of space. Called RAC on Monday. “Terrible customer service ”

In May we broke down on the way to a family camping holiday. We had two under 2 in the car and it was the hottest day of the year. It took well over two hours for anyone to get to us, and when someone arrived it was not an RAC engineer but a partner. The partner didn't even pop the bonnet of our car, he just said "oh I get a lot of Peugeots" then loaded us on to tow us away. The guy was rude, slow and unhelpful. Experiencing appalling service from the RAC? Their customer service department may fob you off with excuses and try to deny you your rights. They may also try to ignore you and drag everything out as long as possible. They don’t even follow their own complaints process. That was my experience in dealing with the RAC. My advice to you is, don’t stand for it. If they subject you too poor service, the law is usually on your side. I persisted and got refunded over £400 using legal avenues open… Read Full Review

“Key replace”

Dreadful service from rac key replace. We recently broke our car key whilst on holiday in Scotland. Although I had key replace they said my cover was void because the little plastic fob was not attached to keys, (although we were sat in our car with proof of identity.) On complaining On our return home I was also told 'a broken key is deemed driver error and is therefore not covered'!! @??? What a con... our key was broken.. not lost. Every year the cost of membership keeps rising, without any call outs and no long term Loyalty discount being offered to old customers of 38 years. “Shameful customer care”

The service of RAC was absolutely fine until they done something wrong. Their failure to admit they were in wrong had cost me money I simply can't afford as a student, which could have been avoided if they carried out the simple task in which I and other members pay for. The member arrived and diagnosed the problem(correctly), went out and bought the part(crankshaft sensor), however the problem still occurred. “5 1/2 hours to get 14 miles 4 call outs loads of lies.”

I was going to write a full account about my experience but it would be as lang as War and Piece if I did,so I'll try and shorten it. We broke down 13 miles from the Hotel and call RAC through Bennetts Motorcycle Insurance who really don't give a damn about the service their customers get. 1st call 8pm the guy came and said the battery was shot he said if he got us going we could ride to the hotel as the cover I had was only basic and would cover me up to 10 miles recovery,so he got us going… Read Full Review

I broke down on motorway. Waited over 60 minutes for patrol to get to me despite being told 30 minutes.when patrol arrived was told he was only there to get me off motorway.was towed off motorway and damage done to my car during process which was minimalized by the man. “Car Insurance”

Having decided to pay extra per month, to ensure I received better car insurance, I am surprised by the Service I received by The RAC (in my eyes a reputable company). “Loop holes in breakdown cover with parts and labour cover”

My sons car broke down...non starter. We have been members of the RAC for over three years and not once called them. We got an ETS of 1 hour, then three hours then two hours and now 3.5hrs! Was not happy so we said we would look to finding another breakdown service coy for the future and the guy said....ok then! I had previously been with AA for 10 years plus and only changed because of the Tesco's Clubcard vouchers that allows you to use to purchase membership but no more! “ European Breakdown disaster”

Finally an end to my RAC European Breakdown fiasco. I have previously written about the issues - poor support, not getting the hire car we should have, not getting a hotel because we couldn't get there. The European breakdown lot were AWFUL - LIED about the level of cover we got. Ruined holiday and home early. This was 4 years ago....... I took them to the Financial Services Ombudsman and we won! - but it was only minor compensation (£250)which was less than the RAC saved by not supplying us… Read Full Review

Been with rac for years with top all singing all dancing cover. Needed them once and were totally let down. Broke down at midnight some random truck turned up NOT AN RAC ENGINEER hadn't got a clue what was wrong with the car . I was on my way to work he REFUSED to continue my journey (lost a day's pay) and would only take me home as all garages were closed at that time of night. I recently broke down on the M25 near St Albans. I had managed to park up on the side of the road and called the RAC to help get my car working. I waited about 40 mins and once the man turned up he managed to get the car started and send me on my way. Called because suffered engine failure. Was told could be up to 2 hours as very busy, but came in 1 1/2 hours. Very helpful patrolman who confirmed our fears that engine was finished, then called for a recovery vehicle; came in 1/2 hour, also friendly and helpful; took us and car to nominated garage and then drove us home.
