“Rubbish Service!”

My Nissan Juke (3 months old) broke down in the West Midlands (drove from London) on weekend of 16 January 2016. Nissan are supposedly in Partnership with RAC Breakdown for incidents such as this. I called RAC who recovered me back to Westway Nissan and then the nightmare began! RAC fobbed me off to Euro Car Hire who offered me a manual car (I only have an Auto license) although I kept trying to explain this fact, no one was interested. I recently changed my breakdown cover over to RAC, oh boy - am I glad that I did... I had reason to call them today, due to a horrific noise what seemed to be coming from the engine. The chap came out ahead of the time promised. He listened intently to my prognosis, we then took the car for a run, straight away he had a really good idea what the problem was. “RAC - Really Abysmal Company”

Had double puncture on lonely B road - first time I ever rang RAC (Really Abysmal Company) to be informed that punctures were not covered as this classed as an accident and not a breakdown and that I should have read the Terms and Conditions (this despite the fact that my card and your card clearly states Accident and Breakdown). I have been with them for more than eight years via a bank package, and the only reason I kept paying them was because of the RAC services. The time I really needed then they asked me to pay. “First Class Service”

Having grounded the rear axle on my Nissan Elgrand on a hard kerb edge with my driver side wheels stuck in soft ground I had to call the RAC rescue service. The young man arrived promptly and took immediate control of the situation. He had all the equipment and accessories to deal with the problem and I was winched out of the soft ground onto the ajoining hard standing in a very short time. this was at 3.00am on a cold frosty night on January 1st. Called in at 12pm and told someone would be out by 3-30pm, return call then informed me that it would be 4. 30, they turned up at 4. 30 but with an unsuitable vehicle for the problem, which had been relayed to them in the first instance- that the vehicle was 4 wheel drive and that the drive was lost and needed flat bed carriage not two wheel tow!! “Load Of Rubbish”

Took out trailer & vehicle cover for a trip with a hired trailer. Had a rare double blowout on the motorway at night on a fast downhill stretch and only just managed to keep it together. On the hard shoulder phoned my 'Members Club' RAC to be told that trailer punctures are not covered and I was on my own. No help from RAC. Guy on the phone was ignorant to boot. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID. “smashed my windscreen and denied it”

Like the title says. My windscreen wipers stopped working so the Monkey Mechanic (if thats what you call him) spent 45 mins dismantling the scuttle on the car and cracked the windscreen with a screw driver. He blatantly denied it and then falsified his report to say it was already done. Absolutely disgraceful customer service followed and of course they all pulled together and denied it. Have been an AA customer for thirty odd years. Now very seriously ill with incurable disease with no prospect of lasting remission and took delivery of Motorbility car. Motorbility uses RAC. I called Breakdown Service out today as I'd run out of petrol having become really unwell when going to get some and having to turn back. Broke down with fuel problems, promised response by 4pm, 4,30 rang to be told it would be 5pm. ran at 5.30pm told response will be another 45mins, guess what, another phone call told it would be another 90mins. At that stage I gave them a huge bollocking and someone turned up 40mins later. 4 hours it took. Moral of the story don't go anywhere near the RAC, go to the AA instead . “No Refund on Policy”

Having been a member of the RAC for 10 years I changed my car and no longer needed the cover. Although I had 6 months remaining on policy I wasn't entitled to refund as RAC only offer refunds if cancelled in the first 14 days. Also, to cancel the policy you have to phone them direct, be prepared to be hold for a long time… Read Full Review

“Appalling Service”

Having spent £160 on breakdown and recovery cover we thought we would be fine. However we broke down on the motorway just after 7 am . We rang from the hard shoulder but the woman couldn't find our membership details and kept us there in the freezing cold whilst we could possibly get hit by a lorry. The same day 3 men died on the hard shoulder on another motorway when a coach drove into the back of them. A contractor cam out about 1 and half hours after the call. “Be aware of RAC's very dubious business practices -...”

Be aware of RAC's very dubious business practices - they will auto-enrol you to be able to repeatedly take money from your credit card. I moved house and they managed to get over £250 from me before I realised what was happening. Despite not having used their services ( or even realising I was a member!) they have a very standard refusal to provide any refunds which is clearly designed to protect their income. Very slow response time then all they do is pass your breakdown to a sub contractor that is only interested in towing you to their garage so they can charge you storage fees . Bad accident, got off motorway, rang RAC, told two hour wait before they could get to us. Nearly one hour later got a call to say that they would not come out to us as it was an rtc not a breakdown! Left stranded. Wish I had seen this review site before I took out this breakdown cover. How do these people sleep at night after leaving two pensioners stranded? This is the third time i have had problems with the rac, i have found them Unfriendly and rude staff refused to come out at first and when they did both rac mechanic and toe driver were rude and treated me like I had committed a serious crime. The RAC are probably one of the worst insurers i have ever had the misfortune to buy, i asked for a quote and it was £11 fully comp a month, suddenly i get a letter saying its going up to £18 a month because someone else rear ended my works van and that it was my fault which is nothing to do with my own private car insurance, i said to them it was not my fault so they replied that if i could prove i was not at fault they would reimburse me for the extra money and my payment would go back to… Read Full Review

I have a serious complaint about the way myself and 2 x young children were treated. I broke down at sunbury cross shopping centre on Monday morning at 10am, after calling the breakdown number is was a 45mins before I got seen too, which wasn't the problem, the problem was I was given no other options other than to pay £240.00 immediately after being told my car had no hope of starting again. “Took £226 out of my account without authority”

I have been a member of the RAC since 2005. Each year I receive renewal documentation, I telephone them and always receive a discount for long membership. This year they chose to take £226 out of my account without warning, and without a renewal notice. They knew exactly what they were doing as when I telephoned, a refund and membership cancellation came without any attempts to apologise or retain my business.
