Spent from 7.30pm tonight waiting for the RAC to come and deal with a problem tire on my friend's car. Was told it would be a couple of hours - even though we are retired ladies waiting in a private unlit carpark - by 3.5 hours later still no sign of the RAC. They then said they were sending a taxi to take us home and would get my friend back to her car tomorrow morning. Waited 80 minutes for a taxi we were told would be 15 minutes. “Incompetent, unhelpful, poor.”

Do not under any circumstances enter in to a breakdown cover policy with the RAC. They will try to tie you in forever, by sending renewals with a 'you must tell us if it not required clause' written in. Our first year was £44, then suddenly it rose to £85 the following year. As we missed the deadline, but cancelled later, they said we could still cancel for the period we had the cover (6 weeks) plus an 'admin fee' Guess what? the amount came to £85. rac cover states if you have a puncture on your motorcycle don't worry we can fix ,not true I had puncture on a9 100 mls from home on my trike in the middle of no where to be told cant help you we don't fix tires with tubes in them no mechanic was sent out just a contractor with a flat bed to recover me,and iam ablue badge holder and waited 3hrs,they offered me 20 poud for my trouble going to cancel membership… Read Full Review

After 13 years membership my car was damaged during repair by RAC patrolman.After contacting RAC to report damage I was given the run around,asked to get garage quotes for repair only to be told weeks later that RAC were denying all responsibility for damage! RAC customer service is beyond a joke! “Shocking service”

I had cause to use the RAC on Bank holiday Monday as my motorbike broke down. I called and advised I would need a tow as it could not be fixed. I was only 30 miles from home. The attendant took 2 hours to get to me and confirmed that it could not be repaired, called a tow truck which took 4 hours to get to me. I finally got home 7 hours after the call out. Broke down on M40 . Called RAC &! Was told 40-45mins . Over an hour later RAC rang to say their contractor won't be with us until Midnight ! Poor show & poor communication . Call them at 6.45pm because had car accident.Car can not be moved. Now is 10.25pm and still wait for them after 6 phone call sh....it service. Broke down on the A47 with my wife daughter & four dogs. Phoned the RAC got told they would be with us in 45 mins, couple of phone calls and 2 & a half hours later some one shows up. He was helpful couldn't get the car going so phoned for a recovery truck. Stated we are on a high priority list as the place was unsafe had a child with as and my wife is disabled and can not take her medication with out food. Yesterday (8 August) I had a breakdown on the journey to Portsmouth with myh KIA. I contacted the RAC and was informed that the engineer would be with me within 25 minutes. He arrived with a cheerful reassuring smile within 20 minutes and immediately identified the problem. Half an hour later the repair was completed and we were able to proceed on our journey. Car failed to start. Patrol attended and diagnosed crank sensor which could not be done at roadside. Recovery to garage recommended but since it was after 7 pm garage was closed. Patrol advised me to call in the morning and car would be recovered to the garage. I rang the garage who could not take the car till Monday due to lack of space. Called RAC on Monday. “Terrible customer service ”

In May we broke down on the way to a family camping holiday. We had two under 2 in the car and it was the hottest day of the year. It took well over two hours for anyone to get to us, and when someone arrived it was not an RAC engineer but a partner. The partner didn't even pop the bonnet of our car, he just said "oh I get a lot of Peugeots" then loaded us on to tow us away. The guy was rude, slow and unhelpful. Experiencing appalling service from the RAC? Their customer service department may fob you off with excuses and try to deny you your rights. They may also try to ignore you and drag everything out as long as possible. They don’t even follow their own complaints process. That was my experience in dealing with the RAC. My advice to you is, don’t stand for it. If they subject you too poor service, the law is usually on your side. I persisted and got refunded over £400 using legal avenues open… Read Full Review

Dreadful service from rac key replace. We recently broke our car key whilst on holiday in Scotland. Although I had key replace they said my cover was void because the little plastic fob was not attached to keys, (although we were sat in our car with proof of identity.) On complaining On our return home I was also told 'a broken key is deemed driver error and is therefore not covered'!! @??? What a con... our key was broken.. not lost. Every year the cost of membership keeps rising, without any call outs and no long term Loyalty discount being offered to old customers of 38 years.
