“My husband and I sometimes used to go into Brannigans...”

My husband and I sometimes used to go into Brannigans for an occasional drink whenever the place was quiet. Another day when my husband was walking past the place, he spotted an advertisment outside for tickets to see the 'Dirty Sanhez'. My husband then went home and told me about it so we decided to go into Brannigans and purchase 2 tickets for the show which was about 1 month later. On the night of the show, the place started to get packed, the show was due to start at around 10 pm. By this time, everyone was waiting, but the show did not start until 12 am and when it did start, it was a huge disappointment because a lot of people, including myself, could not see the show due to a)the stage not being high enough and b) too many taller people blocking others view so therefore I had no other choice but to stand on one of the tables just to see properly. A short while later, as I was still watching the show, out of the blue, one of the bouncers stormed up and slapped the back of my knee quite hard (I could have fallen and hurt myself), but luckily, I didn't. I was just stunned. The bouncer never had the decency to come up and politely ask me not to stand on the table. Also, I was not the only person standing on one of the tables, therefore, my guess was that the bouncer did not like the look of me and my husband which was absolutely no excuse whatsoever to single us out. After the slap on the back of my knee, my husband had a good go at that bouncer by pushing him over the railed barrier next to a table, then suddenly, about 4 or 5 other bouncers came over and restrained my husband in a very forceful manner outside the main entrance. Then the manager came over and told my husband that he was barred and we ended up missing most of the show. I feel really disgusted with Brannigans by the way they treated us and even if my husband was allowed back in, we would never ever go back in there in a million years not even if we were paid to! I understand that these venues do need security staff to keep the peace, but sometimes it is these people who actually fuel trouble, they need to do some training on courtesy, politeness and thinking instead of steaming in feet first wrongly picking on customers. Going back to the 'Dirty Sancez' show, I was told by this guy from work who went to the show that evening that it was a complete and utter flop because they did not do many stunts, but instead made people get up on stage and do air guitar which was boring, therefore, everybody started to walk out, feeling very disappointed. The bar actually had TV screens viewing the show, but what is the point of going to a live show just to see it there on the screen? It is just like watching the DVD at home.

What exactly did you expect at a general admission show? There's no assigned seating. People stand where they want, and if you're small you struggle. This happens to me every time I go to a gig, so if I'm concerned I go early and get to the front. You shouldn't have been on a table, and despite the bouncer's behavior (are you sure you just didn't hear him asking you to get down?), your husband should never respond with violence. There's no excuse to react that way. If he has a problem with security he should speak to the manager. I'm not surprised he was dragged out and barred - you admit that he attacked a member of staff. You're lucky they didn't call the police and have your husband arrested.

Hi Pixie,
<br/>We had no problems in the past with Brannigans, this was just a one off incident which was not our faults. Honestly, the bouncer did not come up and ask me to get down from the table, he just steamed in without thinking and behaved in what we felt was an inappropriate way. The police did arrive and were sympathetic towards us, but cautioned the bouncer because he claimed that the CCTV tapes were not working and could not produce any evidence. Brannigans has since got a new manager. I am not exactly small being 5"8 tall, there were lots of guys there over 6ft tall blocking my view, I would go to the front of the stage if I did not mind being pushed and squashed,(I have had my fair share of being squashed during many gigs - Motorhead was one of them!). It was only that evening where we had a problem with the bouncers. Other places we go to such as Lloyds bar, the bouncers are always polite and say things like &#039;hello&#039; or &#039;have a good evening&#039;. Everybody that went to the Dirty Sanchez show at Brannigans that evening was disappointed because the Dirty Sanchez turned up very late (It must of been awful for the poor souls at the front of the stage) and they were very drunk just doing air guitar. I think that you would have been dissapointed too seriously. The venue itself should have either been at the LCR in the UEA or at the Waterfront as these venues have higher stages.
