Café Rouge Leeds - I was the lucky recipient of £50 worth of Love2Shop vouchers, so decided to spend them at Café Rouge with a friend. Since my last visit, the prices do seem to have gone up, in particular the wines. No matter I thought. I ordered the deep fried camembert for starter, lemon sole for main and had the desert trio with liquor coffee for desert. The deep fried camembert was very appetising with just enough and a small leaf salad. Then onto the next course, and this is where disappointment kicked in. For nearly £15, I expect a fillet. I found it extremely difficult to eat, attempting to slide the fish away from the bone resulted in bones breaking away with the fish. Just about every mouthful I encountered a bone. The dish was supposed to be served with French beans and potatoes. All I got was a few limp long beans, and three rather bland tasting potatoes. Due to the amount of bones on my plate, I ended up eating the potatoes and beans off the side plate... The desert trio was pleasant enough, but a little bit more of each desert would have been welcome. For my liquor coffee I opted for Cointreau. The coffee was excellent, but I would question just how much Cointreau there was in it, I could barely taste it. Service was great. Compared to restaurants such as Browns, I feel Café Rouge is very poor value for money.

Terrible service, terrible attitude towards the clients. Tables are put too close to one another and you can see what the other people round you are eating.

We visited Leamington Spa Cafe Rouge at 5pm on a Thursday as a family with young children and 3 adults. We were spending Tesco Clubcard Vouchers and ordered desserts to use up our vouchers. The Coupe Rouge dessert - largely fruit, ice cream and fruit sauce, names its first ingredient as a white chocolate flake - clearly wanting to grab your attention with the said flake. Desserts arrive, look ok. My husband's Coupe Rouge was missing the white chocolate flake. And the dessert did just look like a fruit/sauce/icecream mess (not like a real sundae or anything put together carefully) which could have done with the flake. When asking our waitress where was the flake she replied "sorry" but no solution so I prompted her with "well could you see if you have any please?" - 5 minutes later she came back with white chocolate in a grater - but no flake. The response left us wondering whether Cafe Rouge have no intention of supplying advertised ingredients and hope we don't notice. I was pleased we weren't paying with our own cash. We had 2 course meals, the staff were generally Ok and service fairly swift as it wasn't busy either. The Feuillete de Champignons starter looked like it had been thrown together as a sauce with a triangle of puff pastry thrown on as it left the kitchen but tasted ok if not bland. The French desserts seemed to be served prettily and tasted as expected.
