I bought vouchers via the Nectar card scheme for Cafe Rouge. I used a couple a few weeks ago and all was fine. Yet when I went to pay with them at the Basingstoke branch this Wednesday they flatly refused to accept them as my friend and I had had the set lunch. The voucher does not state any exceptions.I have since contacted Nectar who say that categorically they should have accepted the vouchers. Not only would they not accept the vouchers but they were very rude about it as well. While... (read more)

Last evening I took my wife for dinner at our local Café Rouge because they'd e-mailed me a '25% off food' special offer. First we wait for ages for service.....then we're told that the 25% off offer doesn't apply to their set menus (NB. not specials, these are their normal printed table d'hote menus). Then when my wife cleverly produces a TESCOCARD £10 voucher, we're told that this doesn't apply to the set menus either.... So do these people really want our business? Clearly not. (read more)

I have had some very good meals here and experienced some excellent service, especially at the Canary Wharf and Covent Garden restaurants. The menu is changed periodically although it can be disappointing when a dish you have enjoyed is no longer offered. However, at the Leicester Square Restaurant, one of the waiters was clearly put out when I asked for another table (of which there were plenty) and so I promptly left (for the Covent Garden branch). Another issue was with the Gourmet... (read more)

Worse experience ever at Cafe Rouge O2 Arena. First arrived and asked if they had highchairs for my 2 years and 9 months old - the reply was a simple yes and we were left to go and get them ourselves. We ordered the food and after 20mn, we had to ask when it would arrive. We were told that it was coming. Another 15mn wait and still nothing - despite the restaurant being half empty! Then, to top it off, a couple just turned up and asked to have a bottle warmed up for what looked like a 3... (read more)

start with the positives, sorry just one, had excellent waiter We like our bread and butter, it usually makes an excellent starter, not this time. Soft pallid sliced baguette with two foil wrapped butter pats, it shouted at us beware of whats to come. My wife had poulet breton as a main, when it arrived we all looked for the chicken, eventually found, four small strips of chicken swimming or partially submerged in the pool of sauce they were similar in size to the awful french frites we... Café Rouge Leeds - I was the lucky recipient of £50 worth of Love2Shop vouchers, so decided to spend them at Café Rouge with a friend. Since my last visit, the prices do seem to have gone up, in particular the wines. No matter I thought. I ordered the deep fried camembert for starter, lemon sole for main and had the desert trio with liquor coffee for desert. The deep fried camembert was very appetising with just enough and a small leaf salad. Then onto the next course, and this is where... (read more)

I like French food, I like European food, it is much better than anything Britain produces and although Cafe Rouge is not the best restaurant I have been too and I did not rush back, it is a chain I would trust and use. Service is quite frankly second to none and whether you want just a coffee or an entire meal, Cafe Rouge is perfect for both. I recommend using Taste Card to get 50% off/2 for 1 The Baguette Poulette is very good. Next time I would like to try some of the petit plats,... (read more)

We went at Cafe Rouge at Greenwich for dinner to welcome a guest from abroad. We were waiting for half an hour watching manager "helping" customers in a completely unprofessional, rude way. Food was moderate, no comparison between it's price and it's quality though. Our guest was polite enough to say nothing but ourselves felt embarrassed overall. I suggest to seek for another place when you want to go out for a quality dinner, which has real french cuisine and not cheap replicates of it.
