“IVA failure advice due to poor communication- WHY????”

Written on: 07/06/2013

I have had an IVA with Payplan since 2009.I have NEVER FAILED to make monthly payments and I have been pleased with their services until towards the year 2012. During my annual review in November 2012, I was advised to provide receipts to evidence an increased expenditure, which I did for the receipts that I had.As I did not have the receipts for grocery shopping for the year I was unable to evidence how much I spent on food shopping. I explained this to my supervisor and clearly advised... (read more)

“Terrible service to creditors”

Written on: 13/05/2013

We have been waiting for our case to be reviewed some 18 months now in fact almost two years and received a letter stating that we would now become a creditor which cost the person owing us money yet another English Pounds 500 for the review! We have now waited a whole year and of course there have been numerous changes in supervisors, people who promise to phone back do not, people you have spoken to have disappeared and all the time the clock is ticking by and we have yet to receive any... Back in 2008 myself and my husband did not know what to do or where to turn for help. We initially visited the CAB and after much consideration we then contacted Payplan for some help and advice. I can't begin to imagine how your company has got away with what you do for so long. I'm seven months away from completing my IVA with Payplan. It's unfortunate that since 2008 when I started my IVA that I have had ten different case officers. One of whom sent me her resignation letter, another sent me one of her clients bank details, name and address. My current officer can only be described as barely literate. “Poor debt advice ”

Written on: 13/03/2013

We contacted Payplan for debt advice intending to do a DMP stupidly thinking they were non profit. They were extremely nice but suddenly was being SOLD an IVA. Their advice led me to believe it was all singing and all dancing solution however was made aware that we may have to remortgage or pay 6 years, but seemed the best solution - as bankruptcy would mean our employers would be told and it would be in the local press, slight lies there I have since been informed. “Incompetents are Us!”

I was directed to Payplan by the CAB after being made homeless and falling behind on loan repayments & owing £17,000. At first I was placed on a DMP paying £100 per month, but then my creditors took me to court in order to turn the screw, further increasing my debt to £21,000 (after paying £100 a month for nearly 4 years I owed £4,000 MORE than I had originally). Hi,

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback on the service you have received from Payplan.

We assess each of our clients on an individual basis and at the time you contacted us a DMP would have been the most appropriate route out of debt, other than bankruptcy. Unfortunately a DMP does not stop creditors from seeking legal action against you if they are unhappy with the repayment plan.

Our intention is to make sure you are on a sustainable and affordable plan. It is never our intention to increase your payments without consent. If you are unhappy with your repayment amount then you need to speak to your case officer who can look into this in more detail.

A change of case officer should never affect a client’s plan, if you have any concerns then please notify us as soon as possible, especially if you believe your documents are going missing.

This is exactly what happened to me. I've had ten case officers in 4 years and 5 months. The last time I sent my payslips and bank statements they told me they'd not received them. I'd sent them with parcelforce using the next day signed for service. I sent them a screen shot of the signers name, signature which was dated and timed. They seem to be convinced that people are earning more than what they say they are. You can't forge or fake bank statements. You can't forge of fake payslips. But the best of all, you cannot deny receiving what I've sent when I've got proof it was received. I couldn't agree with you more when it comes to their abrupt messages and snappy comments.

“Did the bare minimum, then ignored me”

I contacted payplan having been recommended by a friend, and having seen some excellent reviews on here. I contacted them in September 2012 with a list of my creditors. Their 'help' was to email me some template letters I could get from any website and essentially tell me to sort it out myself. Oh, but they did take the opportunity to try to sell me their PPI claim service. They were only too happy to work on my behalf if there was the chance of a commission. The woman I spoke to gave me... Hi

Thank you for taking the time for provide some feedback on the service you have received from Payplan.

Unfortunately sometimes people call us and for whatever reason it is unsuitable for them to enter into a plan with us; this could be down to a low surplus or a low level of debt. When this happens we provide them with a Self Help Pack, which we did in your case. This is designed to help you set up your own arrangement with your creditors to repay your debts.

You should have been given a reference number and access to our Special Advice Team who can offer assistance to you at any point. I am very sorry that your attempt to contact us failed.

Hi

Thank you for taking the time to provide some feedback about the service that you have received from Payplan.

At the start of your plan we contact all of your creditors to inform them of the plan that you have set up and that in future all payments will come from Payplan. However in some cases this information can take a while to filter down, which can mean that some creditors take a little while to note on the changes in their system and they will continue to send out reminders and other letters requesting payment. This is out of Payplan’s control and if this happens to you we always recommend that you send copies of these letters into your case officer so that we can contact your creditors for you.

We have an agreement in place with the majority of creditors, especially those that receive a large volume of payments from us, to pay them on a specific day of the month. This again is out of our control as these instructions come directly from the creditors.

At the beginning of your plan we would have given you an estimated timescales, which in your case was two and a half years, unfortunately we cannot guarantee that any interest and charges will be frozen and this could therefore extend the length of time it will take to repay your debts.

Many Thanks
Gemma from Payplan

I too have a DMP with PayPlan and am less than satisfied. I have been with them for 3 years on what was a 4 year plan. This has now got an estimate of 5 years not including the interest i am still accruing on the various credit cards. PayPlan do say they cannot guarantee interest rates are frozen and certainly in my case not one has. They consistently make late payments on my behalf which always results in a £12 missed payment penalty at least. They do not seem too bothered about anything... (read more)

Hi Peter,

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback about the service you have received from Payplan. As you mentioned we cannot guarantee that any interest and charges will be frozen with a Debt Management Plan.

With regard to payment to your creditors, we have agreements with the major lenders who give us specific instructions on how they want us to make the payments to them. Some choose once a week on a specific day and other choose once a month on a specific date. We therefore do not have any control over any late payments fees that they may charge you, are we are simply following the instructions on the lender.

If you are concerned about ongoing charges, then you can either speak to your case officer or speak to the lender directly.

Many Thanks

Hello,

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback about the service that you have received from Payplan. While we appreciate your comments, it is never our intention to make a client feel that are being pushed into a plan that is not suitable for them. Our job is to present the available solutions to our clients and let them decide the route in which they feel are the suitable for them and that they would like to pursue and we are sorry that you felt we did not do this for you.

Unfortunately we cannot assist clients with bankruptcy proceedings, we assist clients into plans such as a Debt Management Plan or in your case an Individual Voluntary Arrangement. An IVA is a legally binding agreement between you and your creditors, in an IVA you will repay a percentage of your debt over a fixed period of time, which is usually five years. After this time and upon successful completion of the IVA, the remainder of your debt is written off.

If you have any further questions, then please do not hesitate to contact us.

Many Thanks

Hi,

thank you for taking the time to leave a review of Payplan. While I understand your frustration about the ending of your IVA the current problem with issuing completion certificates is completely out of our hands.

It was decided that VAT shouldn't be charges on nominee and supervisor fees and therefore before we were required to wait for HMRC to issue a refund to us so that we could forward that onto your creditors.

We have recently held a variation meeting that will allow us to issue completion certificates without waiting for the refunds to be issued.

Having read your comments tho, I am reassured that they will be able to help me out of a very sticky situation from which I can currently see no escape. Can you tell me whether you had to change your bank account, and if you did who did you find to be a good bank as a replacement. I think I will have to change my bank as my overdraft and my loan which is now one month in arrears are both with my bank, so I assume they will shut my accounts down, that is stop me from using it until the debt matter is resolved>> thanks for your advice sally

Hi Stuart,

Thank you for taking the time to review Payplan and providing feedback. I completely understand your frustration at finding out that your debt wasn't paid back when you thought it would be.

We try extremely hard to get all interest and charges frozen on your accounts, however it is up to the creditor whether they do this or not and is therefore completely out of our hands. We try to make all of our clients aware of this as well as letting them all know that the 'debt free date' is only an estimation as it is based on the original figures that are provided.

Like you mention, we do receive a donation from some creditors, however these donations are completely separate from the payments that clients make to us, it is all explained here > http://www.payplan.com/how-are-we-funded.php

The financial side of this company is absolutely superb and has given me incredible peace of mind. The represenatatives and case manager are very friendly, helpful and caring in their approach and attitude. I have also taken out the protections for the monthly payments and that was very easy also. I also had good dealings with the financial advisor on mortgage protection insurance although it did work out slightly higher than I was already paying, the friendliness and attitude of the... “Useless!”

Written on: 21/03/2012 by Mosk

Been with Payplan nearly 2 years, they advised me an IVA was my best route and I stupidly believed them. I'm now in a position to clear te remaining IVA amount but have been told its going to be £6k on top. They don't tell you this at te start. I would've been better on a debt management plan where I still maintained contact with my creditors as would then be able to negotiate and pay off instantly. But no, not now. I ave to wait 14 days to find out if they'll even agree. All I want to... (read more)

“Debt managment plan”

Written on: 23/02/2012 by Dianeb259 (1 review written)

I entered a DMP and have just found out, with 1 payment left to go, that my creditors never agreed to freeze the interest so really i have paid £4000 off since october........AND NO FURTHER FORWARD! I know that they do ask them to freeze it but when no one gets in touch to say they havent agreed then anyone would automatically think that they have and everything is fine, you think your doing the right thing by trying to pay it off when all i have been doing is chipping away at the... “After 4 years my debt has barely decreased!”

Written on: 16/02/2012 by emmum06

I have been with Payplan for 4 years and until mid 2011 never missed a payment although due to my income my payment were small. In 2011 I became self employed and my payments were sporadic but Payplan advised me that I could make a minimum payment which would be sufficient until I could continue with my full payment. I was not told that during this time, which was only a could of months, my creditors classified the reduced payments as defaulting on the agreement and starting levying huge... (read more)

“HIGHLY RECOMMENDED”

Written on: 01/12/2011 by raym9112 (1 review written)

I was looking at reviews here and couldnt understand why Payplan was rated so low?. In 2009 I found myself in about £50,000 worth of debt which I knew nothing about until after my split with ex wife. It was mainly credit card debt etc run up in my name but unko#nown to me. You can imagine how that felt!. I contacted one of my creditors who recommended Payplan. I contacted them - they were very thorough and took details of everything then set up a debt management plan. What I really like... (read more)

Thank you Payplan for your help, kindness and patience when supporting me with my IVA. When i contacted you, i was very much in need of support and was running out of ideas. The initial phone call was the biggest relief and everyone i spoke to was so kind and understanding. I didn't feel like a failure for being left in the financial situation i was in from my previous relationship. I am truly grateful to the guidance you gave me and that everything was explained in 'plain English'. Th... (read more)

“Do it!!”

Written on: 13/07/2011

I was at my wits end. The new rule in Credit card minimum repayments that was brought in in early 2011 was the first time I realised I had to do something. Almost overnight the card companies wanted £50-£100 more per card per month and as I found myself in an impoosible situation. I was looking on the internet and came across Payplan. I was careful to check they weren't a rip off company and heard great reviews. When I phoned Payplan I was desperate. No one would give me a loan instead... (read more)

I started my Debt Management Plan with Payplan about 9 months ago and I couldn't be happier with their service, they really have saved my life. I'd tried enquiring about other debt management companies but they were clearly trying to 'sell' me a solution rather than just help. Payplan were quick and very understanding of my situation and within a month of enquiring, the daily routine of getting 15 calls a day from my creditors dropped immediately. I'm still a long way off clearing all my... (read more)

Written on: 24/03/2011 by Seriously (1 review written)

I set up a debt management plan with Payplan in 2010. It had taken me a lot of courage to ring them. I found Payplan are very keen to sell you their own products such as safeguard and payment protection which isnt a bad idea. Initially I would make payments at the start of the month and my creditors would be paid near enough straight away. In the last few months my payments which come out at the very start of the month havent been getting to my creditors till mid month. This has prompted one... (read more)

I contacted payplan a few weeks ago in an attempt to move away from a fee charging DMP service, and so pay more to creditors and reduce repayment time. They were very helpful but after taking every scrap of information from me (including creditor account numbers and ref numbers) and even trying to get my bank details (for future payments on the plan via them) they rang me back and advised that my creditors are not those who they have agreements with and therefore as they are funded by... I don't know why Pay-plan is rated is low. They have helped me out of really bad debt problem. Their advise and assistance is second to none. I highly recommend you to contact them. I am in a DMP and my creditors are only too happy to receive the payments pay-plan have put to them. I now sleep at night rather than worrying. Go on give them a bell. PS they don't take a penny from you for their services, whereas others do... go on give them a bell, i am glad i did.... (read more)

My son took out an IVA with another company which was sold to Payplan. He was sent a statement a few months ago which showed that although he is paying money each month to them they do not appear to be paying any creditors but taking the money to pay their fees. He is still being contacted by creditors to ask why he has not paid them any money even though he arranged an IVA well over 12 months ago. (read more)

I'm shocked at the low review ratings. I contacted Payplan Debt Management on Monday about my situation and the lady was very helpful and sympathetic . I was then booked a telephone interview with their advisor who would go thru the figures in more detail on the Tuesday. This advisor was also extremely helpful, put me completely at ease as she went thru everything. At the end she told me not to worry and that they would contact me back within a few days with the options available to me... (read more)

This review is just about their sales front end. The bad reviews are from people who've experienced their service.

Over 3 years later - and with the benefit of hindsight, i wonder if you're still of the same opinion.
