The Model 629 is S&W's stainless steel version of the famous .44 magnum "Dirty Harry" revolver.

The 629 has been on the market for 25 years. It comes in a choice of barrel lengths. I prefer the 5" model for its balance and ease of carry. I don't know where the 2.5 rating came from... I gave this revolver a 4.5 overall. There has not been a problem with hairline cracks in any of the later (post 1986) Model 629s. They are safe with all factory .44 magnum loads.

<br/>The 629 is a good solid gun that has proved itself to thousands of big game hunters and silhouette shooters. As for any weaknesses, well, anyone can damage a revolver with sloppy overpressure handloads.
