OK: So i joined to ask advice after hitting a brick wall with a creditor only to have one of the self appointed GURUS of MSE forums flame me in no uncertain terms. I asked for advice to help with a difficult situation, not for judgment by the high and mighty minority sitting on looking down on the little people. Every piece of work martins does to help the little person at the bottom of various corporate mires is completely negated by these people and will only serve to make you feel... (read more)

This site is very good and contains alot of useful information. Read the site and apply it to your "current" financial situation. By doing so you will find it very useful. Those that don't, have no hope if im honest. Best section for me is the mortgage calculators as these save £1000's each year. This alone has already saved me 25k over a 3 year period. People with some level of financial understanding will be best suited to the site as you already know and are researching how to cut... (read more)

I have used this website on many occasions and it's always steered me in the right direction. Whether it was finding the right utility company, car insurance, credit card, home insurance or even cheap calls abroad I've never found anywhere cheaper / with better deals after buying / getting the deal, having followed the advise on moneysavingexpert.com. What I especially like is that they don't try to break things down into little MTV generation style bits - they treat us like adults and give... (read more)

We made a purchase advertised on the money expert as a good buy, after waiting over a month for the knives they arrived Broken, we sent a photo of the damaged knives, and arrangements where made to collect, this has been over a month now with plenty of e-mails to the website, but no reply, and no refund so spent money with no good, terrible customer service. Would never use again, and can anyone tell us how to get this refund. What errors marked in red (read more)

I wouldn't recommend people to join moneysavingexpert forums unfortunately, they are extremely cliquey with older users being very sceptical about new members, to the extent where they are viewed as a troll purely on their low post count. The forums, particularly the "family" board are a place for people to be highly judgemental and smug. I wouldn't recommend anyone in need of help to ask for it there. The benefits and disability boards are a huge target for trolling, often done by quite... (read more)

I moved to Primus because of the recommendation from this site - Big Mistake i made. I have been receiving calls many from abroad ( I am sure Primus gives the number out) it is ex directory and only Primus have my number. I rang Primus that I was upset by these and wished to change my number and did ask them if i would get charged and they said no because it was my first time. The number got changed and the following month they took out £15.00 from my bank account because i pay by direct... (read more)

The site itself has some good advise. The forums especially the ebay one with its so called EXPERT is a joke. Very cliquey with all the regulars deferring to each other and polishing one anothers egos. Genuine queries like why am i not doing well are greeted with My sales are great, you are not trying hard enough. Arrogant self important people not really interested in helping other people. I find Martin's advise on savings products very concise and hence informative. It's a good starting point for comparing the best rates for various types of accounts and what's currently hot on the market. I highly recommend his advice pages. (read more)

It is a shame that a website that is based on a great idea is populated by reputation sapping trolls. Individuals with little better to do than jump on the bandwagon and punish brands left right and centre. Unless there is a deal in it or massive savings. The site(forums) is abrasive, unwelcoming and dominated by individuals with dangerous often callous attitudes. The rest of it is great, Martin is on the money. But his army of wannabes are trolls lurking in the depths of the forum, with... (read more)

I absolutely agree with this. Martins advice spot on. Went on the ebay site lorded over by some strange person, most of her advice is rubbish. She is a business seller who doesnt approve of free listings, then she does great out of the free listings on her personal account. then she has a business, knows everything, can answer nothing

I was banned for starting a thread about parking and criticising their policies towards promoting the view that illegal parking on private land is not illegal. I had posted before on a different subject (the Westminster Council Flyering ban petition) under my own name (which is also my stage name) and they had not objected. I didn't plug my club on there but they insisted on inserting a link to it and posting up a lot of research about my other un-related posts all over the internet. I... (read more)

Mate they are dumb on that site, they have taken it over and ruined it and made it unpleasant for anyone to go there. I even contacted the moderator's who don't seem to care at all and rudely stated that whilst they couldn't close my account I should just stop posting on the forums if I don't like it. No matter I've been a member for so many years, who cares. Rude through and through. It used to be an amazing resource of advice and now it's a joke. Oh well, off to consumer action group instead, at least they still have real advice. I actually had people on MSE being so rude to me regarding my mental health and of all things suicide that another poster even reported them and email me privately to tell me not to go back and look at their comments because they had gone wild and there was no reason I should anger myself to read such ignorant rubbish. At least one person out of all those jackals was nice enough. The forum should be binned- it's out of hand. Better you join another online forum who can actually provide you with good, genuine advice.

Like others I've had the same issue of being barred from the site and accused of spamming without the administrators looking at my activity levels or anything other than the username I used. I've since tried to reassure them that I'm not spamming and happy to change my username but as quickly as they accuse you of doing something wrong they're incredibly tardy at reviewing their mistakes. An unfriendly and cliquey site unfortunately. I'll be steering clear! (read more)

found the site to "advertise" certain other products that were more expensive than those found through other sites, if you pointed this out your post was removed and you get banned.
I feel that a once great site has become a failure of it's own success and are now trying to grab as much money as possible by stating items as "best buys" for companies they get paid the most money from.
as for no ads on the site, this is almost a complete lie, they get huge commissions and the products...

I joined the forums to make a review on some headphones that appeared overly cheap. I was just asking if people thought the "deal" was real or not. I was made extremely unwelcome by a barrage of accusations of "spam", and when I asked why they were saying this they quoted my message and just wrote "spam" again... The thread was then deleted. I then made another thread and apologised if it appeared to be spam and attempted to remove any suspicions. I was accused of spam again by senior... (read more)

The site is kind of fine and it has helped me save money in some ways, although it's not as throughout as it can be, it does favour some products over others. The forum is a hell, there is a small number of users who genuinely wanna share their experience with others and wanna help others to save money but most people are nothing more than losers in their lives who clearly don't have a life but go online to attack people who have a legitimate question to ask. Mr Lewis is not comparing apples with apples.

This site targets the less financially savvy members of our society and is designed to sell credit cards and other inappropriate products to them. The site claims to be ad free and non-commercial, which is simply not true. It is cleverly geared to pushing money-making products.
It epitomises the ills of the internet but has been legitimised by free publicity for its creator on BBC and commercial TV, radio and in newspapers.

Mr Martin Lewis' site Money Saving Expert started off a real little gem. Full of deals and top tips on how to play companies at their own game. Of late MoneySavingExpert has lost a little of it's sparkle. There just aren't the same cracking deals anymore. This is probably symptomatic of the 'credit crunch'. Certainly, there aren't nearly as many financial product deals. It used to be great for mortgage, insurance and savings deals but they just simply aren't any on the market.

I thought it was just me and maybe I was going crazy haha but I've just left MSE forums because of this blatant trolling and smug so and so's who have NO idea what they are talking about. And 99% of them are on the disability forums lol!
I recently made my last post when asking a very legitimate question regarding compensation and how you work out claim amounts. They were so rude and condescending, with no knowledge about what they were saying and I finally put up a rude message to all of them and bust out of that hell-hole. I contacted the moderators to say the website has just become a massive trolling arena and they need to sort it out cos I'm leaving. Got a very smug reply off them too and wonder if they don't all just deserve each other.
Consumeractiongroup is way better, go there for actual advice and not people's useless opinions on whether or not you're wrong or right (as if they know!)
