I have just applied for Post Office platinum credit card, and have been asked to provide certified copies of my driving license, pay slip, a utility bill and original bank statements. I bank online, so would only be able to provide printouts, and have just been told that this would be rejected even if my bank confirmed that I bank online. The only option would have been to request original bank statements at a cost of £5 each, which I was unwilling to do - the whole point of changing cards was to save money.

Obviously checks need to be made, but I was asked for all this information before a decision was made - and I have a perfect credit rating, so it doesn't make sense.

    My advice: avoid!

0 percent commission free on transactions abroad, what can I say?! Especially when the post office has one of the best exchange rates as it is. Just pay the exchange rate at the time, and no other charges... that's why I got the Post Office Platinum Credit card.
I don't need it for credit. That is the important part!

The Post Office Platinum Credit Card has 0% balance transfer for 10 months and 0% commission use abroad. No transaction currency conversion can save loads if you use a card abroad.

Appalling service. No good points at all. Everything has been a hassle. Far to many repeat phone calls for the same thing.

I was attracted to this card because of 9 months at 0% and a recommendation in a Sunday paper. The card is backed the Bank of Ireland (BOI).

The application process was dreadful and bizarre. They wanted me to send ORIGINALS of my passport, my driving licence, my council tax demand, my latest bank statement, my latest pay statement and a recent utility bill. I phoned to say I wasn't willing to do that - put such important documents in the post to them with no guarantee that they would cover ...
