I bought this Advent 8111 laptop several years ago with XP on I took advantage of the vista upgrade which worked causing none of the issues other people were reporting loading fast and extremely stable. To be fair I upgraded the ram to 2gig and have now upgraded the hard drive to 250gig. Now in dual boot mode with XP and windows 7 this machine continues to deliver without fail doing everything its asked to do. One of the best buys I ever made! (read more)

At beginning it is a good fast laptop. It loses connectivity to wireless broadband very easily and does overheat very easily. Poor graphics for any sort of games other than solitaire. Advent 8111 is ok for basics but long term it struggles. (read more)

Bought this Advent 8111 laptop 2 year ago. Wireless connection failed, had to have a replacement mother board. Since then the power connection is now loose and gets an intermittant connection and the wirelass keeps loosing connection. I have to uninstall and reinstall the wireless network adapter hardware to get it working again. Graphics poor for any games other than spider solitaire. (read more)

Strong, quick. Little slow to start pop ups at begining, pointer touch pad so sensitive left click gets pressed when you just want to move the pointer around the screen. Bad points are only minor and are far outweighted by the good, well recommend Advent 8111 laptop. (read more)

The Advent 8111 is an absolute bargain - £500 with dual core and a gig of ram - can't complain! Loads up and is ready to surf the Internet in 5 minutes tops. For a student after a cheap laptop then this is perfect. Media centre is also excellent. (read more)
