Good Points: Family-orientated show. Great scripts and characters, a real "classic" of the modern "sit-com" era.

Bad Points: No longer in production. Big reliance on regional stereo-types for it's laughs.

General comments: The show was aired on the BBC in the later part of the 1980's and enjoyed a very successful spell on the BBC. The show could usually be found about 8.00pm on a Sunday evening and provided about 40 minutes of real entertaining mirth. The show was the brainchild of successful comedy writer Carla Lane and this return to form is arguably her most "famous" work. The show showcased the talents of "unknown" actors which was unusual for this type of comedy show. The show maintained a high standard for a number of years and due its enormous success, only began to suffer when one or two of the main characters decided to leave the show, this ultimately signalled the beginning of end for "Bread" as it was difficult for viewers to accept new actors as the characters had become so popular and identifiable, it plodded on for a while before coming to a limp end in the early nineties. Great family fun and repeats can still be picked up from time to time. highly reccomend.

They manage to live a fairly good life with the help of social security payments and "jobs on the side" They are a close knit family who all strive to ...
