I brought a Kraken and I love riding it. The only problem is that the assembly (by Halfords) is very poor. I have had punctures due to the rim tape not being put on properly (apparently a common problem on this bike), the crank snapped off, the front reflector even fell off on the way home. Halfords replaced the whole bike when the crank snapped but they gave me the new one in an unrideable condition, the gears were all over the place. In the end I got my local bike shop to give it a good servic ...

carrera kraken - good strong bike, had a few crashes on road and off bike has stood up well.just changed bottom bracket, chain and pedals after 18 months of hard riding allso 2 new tyres.liked the original tyres but now trying continentals.
the only bad side about the bike is i had to buy a set of lizard skins to cover scratching on forks caused by dust around seals.try changing forks for a better set and you would have a good high range price bike for a good mid range cost.if i had known fork to ...

Haven't riden for ages so was a bit concerned with all the gears and lock out suspension on the Carrera Kraken, but picked it up really easily. Have now riden off and on road and am very pleased with it's overall performance. Found the saddle slightly uncomfortable but this is understandable having not sat on a bike for over 5 years but got over this by buying a gel saddle which attached very easily and quickly. The quick release front wheel is a bonus when we travel and need to put the bikes ...

Bought Carrera Kraken Jan 2008, so far:
Crank fell off - poor design - nothing to stop the bolt coming unscrewwed!

Punctures - Halfords 'forgot' to add the goo I paid for

Chain broke today, Halfords reaction - they do that and refused to help - they sold me a new chain and tool.
I subsequently learnt that I could ahve got away with just a SDram Power Link at less than £2 !

i've owned a carrera kraken about three and ahalf years, riding mainly roads and tracks, covering about two housand miles, and its still rides like new. i've just had it serviced, and didn't have to replace any parts.

Carrera Kraken - I'm not a mountain bike geek! I just ride one for pleasure & fun on & off road daily. I had a Marin before this & the quality was not as good I thought. I've has this bike totally submerged under water a year ago & its never affected the crank/bearings or anything. If you don't take yourself too seriously, wear Oakley shades and carry a bottle of Lucosade Energy round with you etc, then this bike is for you. Does what it should for less money than Marins, Cannondales etc.

Great bike for the money. Good looking, even the welding is above average for this level of bike. With a small frame it turns really well and stop pretty good to. The travel in the forks is better on the 08 model, 20mm longer, but will see how it holds up long term and on bigger drops.
The gear changes don't feel quite as solid as a Shimano but the change is smooth and quick, and never misses a gear.
I'd say this is the best bike for this money and now at £350 is an absolute bargain, go b ...

Its an amasing bike that should be worth about £800 massive savings and as its a hard tail its grate for beginers. The hydrolic disks are great and its got a really stirdy frame. There are no faults really but if you had to say something I think the wheels are too big.

10/10 (considering price). The Carrera Kraken is really good value. It comes very well equipped and I really like the hydraulic stoppers. A great mountain bike all round.

Superb all round package, you can buy £350 bikes with better wheels or forks or frame but you can't buy anything in this price range which is better on all counts. It's a very well balanced, competent bike which is capable of even some fairly tough offroad work. The XCR fork is just OK, but it's good enough that you won't hate it unlike most budget forks- it's so much better than a Rockshox Dart. It has SRAM X5 geartrain and full hydraulic brakes too, all attached to a strong but slightly ...

A very lite bike for its size with excellent gears and brakes
well worth buying at the price it wont diseppiont you
can cope with jumps with ease
    mainly it is fast
    my favourite bike
    suite any conditins
    chunky tyres give excellent grip
the disc brakes can take a lot of punishment without fading
make sure you get the right frame size and have a long enough lock to go round the wheels because they are quick release

the grips do wear out after about a year depending on howmuch you are using it ...

I have been riding mountain bikes for 22 years and have had machines from £100- £2,500 for all purposes from downhill/jumping to trail/fitness riding. I left cycling for 4 years and decided I really missed it and wanted to return. I didn't want to spend the earth but as a heavy rider (14st) I needed a reasonable specced machine. I did some research and test rode several machines including a GT and Specialized. I chose the Kraken because it had very similar spec but was over £ ...

There is not very many good points about the bike, The Carrera Kraken is too heavy for my liking, there are better bikes with a better spec so i wouldnt buy this one.
