Having spent a summer holiday in New York, I listened to many different acts that we don't always get in the UK.
Whilst having a lovley evening in Joey's Bar in Astoria, we heard a couple of songs by a great singer. Upon further investigation, it was a guy called Gavin DeGraw. Went straight into Manhattan to buy the CD and have become a huge fan.
It seems that a fair few English people have heard of him because of 'One Tree Hill' a programme that I have not seen, but Gavin does the theme tune.
Now quite by accident, I stumbled upon the one and only concert by him on the internet and duly booked a couple of tickets.
It seems that he is getting very popular in the States and has spent many years perfecting his live performances before signing up to a record label. Boy, does it show.
I have been to many concerts by great singers; George Michael, Mick Hucknall, Alexander O'Neal, Darren Hayes to name but a few, but Gavin blew me away.
The venue was packed. Everyone knew all the words to all the songs, and sang them all with Gavin. In fact, we sang two of the songs WITHOUT Gavin! He loved it! He sang his heart out, note perfect throughout, ran around, talked to the crowd, all in all probably the best concert I have ever been to.
