    Good Points: none

General comments: We have been going to the Roman Lodge Hotel & Restaurant for the six nations rugby for the past eight years I myself have only gone twice I went two years ago the hotel wasnt great a bit outdated but we didnt have a bad stay as the landlord treated us well, however this year was totally different the hotel has gone down hill big time .We arrived down for breakfast on the morning of the game to find the landlord asleep in the office I asked if there was any chance of breakfast Brian said no problem and proceeded to the kitchen to make us breakfast I looked in at him about 30 minutes later he was in a bit of a mess in the kitchen deep frying sausages which were burnt a black as the ace of spades poached eggs that were like bullets and dried up beans my friend came in the kitchen he is a chef and looked at the sausages which were on the side and he said the had gone sour and not to eat them so we refused the breakfast. The next morning I asked Brian if I could just have a toasted bacon sandwich he told me that the kitchen was closed for mothers day and to get a sausage sandwich over the road in the spar. No refund/ discount was offered. The hotel is tatty and outdated.

Location is not great in my opinion, just outside caerleon so a good walk to the town. Was over charged, website said £45 per night which included breakfast-actual cost £77. Floor boards were very creaky, always felt as if we were making a disturbance but luckily it looked like they were empty.

Would not recommend, due to the conflicting prices for a seemingly out dated hotel upstairs. Downstairs was very nice and presentable and even though I did not have an evening meal I assum ...

Overall the Roman Lodge Hotel & Restaurant very good value for money. Even if you are very hungry we think that this would be more than acceptable. Excellent reception and choice of menu. Very good service. Chef introduced himself and asked if the meal was OK. Very good Value for money.

The Roman Lodge Hotel & Restaurant in Caerleon, Newport offers perfect ambiance, and we received a warm welcome from all the staff we met; even the head chef introduced himself and asked if everything was to our liking (icing on the cake).

Staff simply looked after myself and my partner as if we were Royalty.

Very nice restaurant. Jazzy type music - easy listening.
