“Sym Jet Euro X 50 Scooter”

★★★★☆

written by Dungbug on 08/07/2011

I was looking for a cheap & reliable scoot to use for getting to work & back, I had owned a Gilera before & was not impressed with it's unreliable behaviour! I looked at alternative machines which were of Chinese & Taiwanese origin. I was put off by the build quality, well lack of, with the Chinese built machines so settled for a 2004 Sym Jet Euro X 50. The difference between the Gilera and the Sym was apparent on the first wet morning I needed to go to work, the Sym fired up first time as it had done in previous week's and happily motored along to wrk & back as it always did. The ride is stable and comfortable enough, I had a ride out on her one afternoon and was on her for over 2 hours. She had no complaints being used for this amount of time, mostly at full throttle and after the ride I wasn't stiff or aching. The build quality is very good and would rival it's Japanese counterparts in my opinion, of the finishing touches such as trim, dials and so on aren't quite as snazzy as other manufacturers but everything is there that you need and does it's job very well indeed. The economy is fantastic as you would expect from a 50cc, mine was deristricted and could manage a steady 45mph on the flat. If I'm being picky (very picky) I did notice that the quality of steel used on the exhaust silencer wasn't brilliant and surface rust appeared very quickly, I just treated this every month or so with a wire brush & some new paint to keep it looking good cosmetically more than anything. The overall appearance of the scoot is nice, it's probably the best looking model that Sym have produced. Earlier Sym Jet's were a bit basic & bland in appearance but this one was sculpted very nicely. Sadly mine was stolen after 9 months of ownership, due to the impressive build and reliability it was replaced with a TGB 202. This is another Taiwanese built scoot, the reliability and build was pretty much equal to the Sym. I would have loved another Sym Jet Euro X but there was nothing local & I needed transport for work so the TGB was what I went for, I wasn't disappointed with either! If you are looking for a commuter, first time scoot or just something to potter about on these scoots are fantastic and can be found at much more affordable prices than their Italian & Japanese counterparts. Parts are available for both Sym & TGB through various UK dealers and online. All in all the Sym was and is a great little scoot that will serve you well, provide cheap and more importantly, reliable transport. I would advise buying one with low miles or one that has been cared for and has some receipts to show it's been serviced and maintained. Regardless of how well something is built is should be maintained to keep it in good health, check for damage as well. Alot of scoots are used by less experienced riders and as a result, can suffer with cosmetic damage. Check all panels are secure and free from damage, handlebars are straight and there's no nasty rattles or knocks. These are good little machines and are fantastic value.

Orite lads. Got my 2010 plate Jet 4 50cc yesterday for £750 with 1777 miles on it, rode it home 20 miles away and it was a blast, only got around 37mph out of it down hill, does anybody know what speed it might do if i deristrict it and put either a leo vince or technigas exhaust on it? Thanks, Josh.

hi i have th eexact same bike as you i derestricted it and it goes 40 mph on a lfat and 45 mph down hill. if you have been looking onadrenaline pedstop at the leo vince and technigas exhausts, then they are not compaitable with the 4 stroke modle i know becaus ei rang them the other day and at the minute their is no exhaust that has been confirmed compaitable with this sym jet 4 50cc modle. sorry if you are frustrated but i am too, i hate the speed and tunability of this scooter.

i got one sym jet 50 and the aftermaket exhaust was cracked, the more i used it the more it opend up, i was considering buying another exhaust but instead got a new bike. Another sym jet 50. i think the bike is superb for saving money and gettin you from A2B the reason i never changed the exhaust and got a new one was because i'm actually renting the bike and the guy who rent it just swapped them over, i am gonna derestrict it today by taking the washer out the exhaust, see how much faster that'll take me :) anyway .. PEACE

p.s i reccomend this bike to anyone doing less than 100 miles per week and dont want to spend a load of money , they look good when in good condition and also sound good when the exhaust IS NOT CRACKED! lol

written by potsworth on 07/12/2010

I av had 4 SYM bikes (sym basix 50cc) (sym euro jet X 50cc) (sym jet sport X 50cc) (sym symply 125cc) the not the best looking scooters in the world but looks will not get you from A to B. The engine dose and Sym engines easy to fix get parts . If you need parts and you are from south yorkshire the is a shop in Doncaster called ( NeedHams 01302 323846 ) that sell SYM bikes and parts and will take any job on ! .... Some top tips about Syms if your bikes not going fast and its only a 50cc its coz it needs derestricting then it will go from 30mph to 50mph lol .... then to make it faster go on >>> http://www.adrenalin-pedstop.co.uk/cp-Jet_50-881.aspx <<< and get some 5.5G polini rollers and a tecnigas exhaust pipe then your sym jet 50cc will be doing 60mph and it will be fast on pick up allways put new spark plugs in your bikes just makes them run alot better and keep ya tyres at 35psi HAPPY RIDEING :P

written by on 28/02/2010

I bought this bike of ebbay for £350, not a bad bike specially for my first, top speed on mine is around 40mph to 50mph, powerband at around 5-10mph then at around 30mph. fast nippy bike, easy to use, realiable, only time it has ever broken down is when i were driving home in a blizzards and the temperature was about -5 degrees celcius. good on petrol only £5 to fill tank, around 85-95 mpg (mile per gallon). £200 for insurance with bennets, and £15 tax for a year. easy to wheelie, just rev fully while holding back brake rellease break then ligt bike and off u go on one wheel, brakes good, front dish brake stong enough to do stoppies. overall good fast moped, good alrounder would recomend to anyone. have fun

good all round scooter having clocked over 30,000 miles with only one re build not bad for a 50cc ,main problemsi found were 3 speedo cables broke usally due to not adding a few drops of oil when refitting ,some plastic panels get damaged easy, but east to repair and the mirrors were crap like all scooters but can if looked after the sym jet 50 is a good 2stroke scooter

the black box above the exhaust just collects a small amount of exhaust gas and sends it back to the carb, it leads to the pipe that goes in the front of your airbox. if you take it off it wont do anything but i put a little k&n filter on the end to stop water and other stuff getting in.
