Good Points: I bought this laptop from a friend who needed cash badly. I have to say that I was very impressed with it. Very fast in my opinion. It is lightweight as well. I took it with me on my first deployment overseas and it did just fine, even with all the sandstorms. It survived. That was almost four years ago and only recently did it start acting up.
Bad Points: The battery life is abysmal. I too heard a high pitched squeal coming from the fan. The screen also loses it's back light sometimes. That is an easy fix though, move the screen to a different position and it goes back to normal. The only problem that I cannot live with is that the DC jack is loose. It then overheated the power cord and now that doesn't work. I still want to keep it so if anyone knows a place where I can get a new cable I would appreciate it.

All in all I really enjoy this computer and would recommend it to anyone. Do not leave it plugged in if you are not using it though. It tends to get hot.

I got my a535 a few years ago second hand, I didnt get the restore disc with it but got by with just installing a fresh copy of home xp.
Laptop is ok looking, gets hot too quick in my experience, my fan on the processor seems to be making a high pitch sqeeling sound.
Just thought I'd like to point out that my laptop is a a535 but was from tiny, maker of this laptop is ecs.
They will tell you the maximum memory upgrade is 512mb, so I decided to put a 1 gig upgrade and it works great.

Battery life is indeed poor... I got around 45 minutes to an hour when new that was with the longer life battery.
I thought about getting another battery as I now get around 5 minutes battery life. Did a google search and found some batteries for around $140 but don't know if this is worth it considering the low cost of laptops now. Apart from this I do recommend Walmart Balance laptops.- Read Guest's review (92 words)

I have no problems with mine other than the battery life! I got it second hand from my Son when we bought him a new one. He said he could not depend on it for the short battery life!
The battery life of the battery was always 20 minutes. It's also hard to find a supplier for the battery. Haven't found one!
Don't have anything derogatory to say about this laptop!- Read dayambler's review (70 words and 1 comment)
