Good Points: Moody, dark, love-den of Arty crowd, hip and cool place to be seen. As welcoming to groups as individuals with varying sized tables. Homemade food to order and great wine by the glass selection.

Bad Points: It took a bold step to go in on my own for the first time - stepping into the unknown, almost club type atmosphere. In reality it's very welcoming!

Sometimes closed during the day, as it's also used to film a BBC drama from time to time (I think Torchwood, but I could be wrong).

General comments: It's worth starting by saying City Cafe in Cardiff Bay ISN'T A CAFE!!!!! It's a hip and cool bar, popular where the Arty Farties rub shoulders with office workers and more! Great wine selection by the glass, and food made from scratch on the premises. Young friendly staff who take time to actually look you in the eye and talk to you - and homemade soup to die for (I don't bother asking what it is anymore, as it's always good!).

The smaller steel tables and chairs are a bit cold and hard (look for a seat with a cushion!), but the large communal table is fab.

Go try it, but don't tell too many people!

Oh, and they do great coffee too, and free papers for the "cafe-clique".
