I like the lifestyle of the rich and famous video and the young and hopeless video too! Good Charlotte rules!!!! Only thing they need to do is to write more awesome songs!

SAWEET LYRICS! AWESOME MUSIC! i love it because its totally true, we have to hang on and we cant give up and i think that Good Charlotte does a kick ass job of letting people know that they're not the only ones that are going through all the rubbish stuff in their lives...

“The band Good Charlotte has definitely been catching...”

★★★★★

written by Faded on 23/04/2005

The band Good Charlotte has definitely been catching some attention the past few years. Much of the thanks for this can be given to the album 'The Young and the Hopeless'. The growth that showed in this album (compared to their last self-titled album) is incredible. The first album is paled in comparison to 'Young and Hopeless'.

To start with, the lyrics are so much more mature. They are directed towards a wider audience than the last album. The song 'The Anthem' was a very inspiring, telling kids to be themselves because it's better than following everyone else. Its lyrics are humorous and very entertaining. Another very popular song was 'Lifestyles of the Rich and the Famous'. The catchy tune and witty lyrics show off that bit of Green Day inspiration that started it all.
This album isn't all laughs though. Track 8, 'Hold On' is sent out to all those considering suicide. It's a beautiful song that couldn't have been written better. The feeling the lyrics displayed show that first hand experience can change a song entirely (Song writers Joel and Benji Madden had both considered suicide earlier in their life, which inspired the song). The song is slow through out the first half then kicks it up for a hardcore guitar solo (played by Billy Martin).
Another song worthy of recognition is the title track 'The Young and the Hopeless'. the guitar is simple yet edgy and the lyrics are catchy but very meaningful. This is honestly one of my favourite songs.

The guitarists (Billy Martin and Benji Madden) and bassist (Paul Thomas) grew so much from the last album. After listening to the 4 chord progressions and simple bass lines of the first album you would never recognize these guys in this album. I especially love the guitar in 'The Anthem' and 'Riot Girl'. There is a lot of talent within this band, especially in the guitar area.
The band didn't have an official drummer during this time because their former drummer Aaron Escolopio quit the band to join his brothers band they were left drummerless (until their third album 'The Chronicles of Life and Death' when they found Chris Wilson). But fortunately I don't have to worry about who to give the credit to for this album because nothing about the drumming in this album is very spectacular.

The overall sound of the album is impressive but there is still room to grow. But with this band I think we can still expect a lot of improvement. They have what it takes to grow in this business (you can definitely see that in 'The Chronicles').

I would recommend this album to anyone. It's different from a lot of albums you hear today, it's punk but somewhat pop. It's edgy and dark but humorous and inspiring. There's a little bit of everything in this album. If you don't have it already, go out and get it!

Good Charlotte, The Young and the Hopeless - This album's great, I really like all of the songs, especially Hold On, the song to stop people commiting suicide. The lyrics are really good and you won't be able to stop listening to it. If you haven't already, go and buy it!

Wow, what can I say. Good Charlotte, 'The Young and the Hopeless' was the most exceptionally horrible CD I have ever heard in my entire life. I'm serious. I even have the wedding planner soundtrack. That was better. I would rather listen to two giraffes making love than to hear one song on this album. I don't know if I have ever heard anything so god awful. If you even consider buying this album you need to think again. Do you realize that these punks are just commericialized rock wannabees. They aren't anything new or special. They are just trying to grab the attention of every mindless pre teen who has no clue what music really is. If you want to buy a poppy song so your young girlfriends will think you are cool. Then this is it. But if you want to not be stupid and buy real music, stay as far away from this band as possible. ya dig?

“Good Charlotte unleashed "The Young and the Hopeless"...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by The Music Dude on 02/07/2004

Good Charlotte unleashed "The Young and the Hopeless" on us in 2003, and by doing so, they've proven their lack of anything related to talent. You can't say they don't try, because they do. They sound like they're having fun on most of the tracks. However, their songs are filled with childish angst and poor guitar work by one Benji Madden. Their major attempt at being somewhat adult, the anti-suicide single "Hold On", comes off as a plodding, over-worked re-working of "Everybody Hurts" with that oh-so-joyous touch of pop-punk stupidity. I do not recommend this for anyone who is over the age of 15.

The Young and the Hopeless is a rockin' CD which is the Good Charlotte lads second album but it's their first they have promoted over here in the UK. They are an all 5 piece. All the lyrics and music is written by the band's twins Benji Madden and Joel Madden. When I went through a tough time I would listen to this album and I listened to hold on and relised there is more to live for rather than bullies. Over all a great album from my fave band who are my idols after all they went through similar stuff.
