firstly this is the only sat nav I have used, so it would not be fare to to compare with others, only I can say is having used this for 4 years it has been reliable, until recently the touch screen is playing up, but using it i have found only one thing i find that could be better is it does not allow you to put a full postcode only the first part then you need to put in street, or place name, and to start using sat nav from off mode, takes a long procedure before you can actually get to put... It is my first navigation system. I own it since 2006. After 4 years still running ok.
One problem with it is that the update maps cost a fortune. But this can be avoided by uploading IGO8 on it.
Another problem is when you pass through a tunnel. After exiting it will take a few good minutes before it will reactivate the GPS reciver.
From my point of view it is everything you need from a GPS system. If you update the maps, or intall IGO8 you will be satisfy.
I bought the device for 400... (read more)

Bought this unit from Tesco Direct for clearance price of £79.
Not bad performance straight out of the box - good European coverage but the maps were over 2 year old.
Checked with Tesco & Becker but no updates seemed available.
The best thing about the 7934 is that it runs WINDOWS CE 4.2.
Effectively this meant it was a mobile-PC.
With a little research I found several YOUTube videos & links to newer maps & apps which you can run directly on the Becker via the 2GB SD Card.
This is probably... (read more)

Bought the Becker Traffic Assist HighSpeed 7934 for a friend's 30th birthday, as she has only just passed her driving test. She found it easy to use, great having the 'avoid motorway' option for more timid drivers, or avoiding traffic jams. WMA player is pretty cool addition as with the picture viewer - totally pointless in my opinion but cool none the less. 8 - 10 for performance 10 - 10 for value! (read more)

This is a very well made GPS unit. I didn't even have to open the instruction book. Charged it via the USB port on my computer, turned it on, and quickly added an address and it was guiding me within minutes. VERY user friendly. I like that it just shows the street I'm traveling on or need to turn onto, along with landmarks. Less cluttered screen makes it easier to navigate. I especially like that the voice warns me I need to turn in 1 or 1/2 mile, at 600 feet and when I should start turning... (read more)

VI have been unable to charge the unit from two different car cigarette lighters. I bought a mains charger from Becker through the web site and this kept it going about three hours. Recently however the mains charger mysteriously blew up.
Charging from computer USB outputs takes a very long time. Not really practical for every day use.
Not utterly useless but its inability to charge from the car battery greatly reduces its effectiveness. (read more)

Decompression error was presented with POI search for Orlando, Fl. in first week of ownership. Out of box bug in software I think. Tech support suggestions of reloading maps to SD card and this process failed repeatedly. Discovered on my own that a USB 2.0 card reader was required to complete the new download of the version 1.0 maps. This finally took care of the decompression error. I purchased the Euro Map SD card and used the system in the UK from London to Cambridge. Worked flawlessly on... (read more)

First GPS I've owned. Bought primarily on price, but checked reviews before committing. Also influenced by the German engineering.
Have used it for a month and it has performed flawlessly! I found it very easy to use with little need for reading the manual.
I'm not an early adopter and usually buy middle of the road products. Can't see any reason to put a lot more money into a unit to get a bigger screen and sexier graphics. This more than meets my needs at an entry level price point. Give... (read more)

The Becker Traffic Assist is filled with features, but the updates are slow to come and the response from the contact location could be weeks at best. It is frustrating waiting and then the responses are not what you expect. I can say, I did have the Decompression Error, and after contacting the company, about a week later I had the instructions in email. Below you will see how to fix the decompression error. If you follow these steps, you will be back up and running in no time.

I think there is a firmware or software glitch with my Becker sat nav. I purchased a second unit before the problem occurred in the first one.

I have used various units (Garmin, Navman, Tomtom) and this one is by far the worst. To load maps you have to store them on a little SD card which occasionally it won't read from. It regularly behaves like a disobedient computer telling me that it has performed an illegal operation and must close, or that it cannot decompress its data. I suppose mine might be a defective one, I don't know, but everything about it annoyed me so I decided to simply buy a different make which, unlike this,... (read more)

Bought my Becker Traffic Assist today. Never had one before but the price was such that I just couldn't pass it up. Still not sure how to set it up properly. I was in a hurry and set it up to get me to a place north of Raleigh, NC from Charlotte, NC. I was pleasantly surprised. It more than met my expectations! I would highly recommend this product. I paid $129.00 and with the text to voice it led me right to my destination. I would have gone of course at least twice if I trusted the... (read more)

This is to update the review I made about this product last week. Yesterday I used it to drive from Oxford to Dymchurch (Kent), and then on to a tiny village near Sevenoaks called Markbeech, from there to an address in West London, and then to return to Oxford. This device did not falter once, it directed me door to door to all the destinations effeciently and without a wrong turn once. I have never tried any other sat nav unit, and so cannot compare to any other, but it does what I want it... (read more)

One of th main features I like is the GPS re-routes when making a wrong turn or miss a turn. Very accurate and it has a nice night feature. Provides posted speed limit on major highways. Great product for the money. I highly recommend it for someone who doesn't always need a GPS and doesn't want to spend a whole lot of money. The only downside is the maps aren't current. (read more)

I would not recommend you get a Becker Traffic Assist HighSpeed 7934. When I needed this product for work, it didn't help me at all. I thought maybe I just got a defective product. It's a good system, economical and have more function than name brands in its class. Mood light is cool. It recharges itself while hooked up to computer via USB. It does have one issue, every time I start it up fresh, it never connects to GPS until I remove the SD card and reinsert, even then sometimes, it says GPS signal is not available. But once it finds the signal, its good to go until you power it up fresh again. I still haven't figured out this issue, hopefully support can help. (read more)

I purchased a Becker Traffic Assist Highspeed 7934 on August 1, 2007. I wanted a reliable, user-friendly and inexpensive device, and I am delighted with my Becker.

Having a Sat Nav that only works now and again is not much use. Sadly after 8 months and a replacement unit I have given up on the Becker Traffic Assist and returned it to the suppliers Viking Direct. Firstly, as expected, quality very nice. Fast processor, sensitive GPS receiver which picks up a signal quite fast. Car mounting system is nice quality compared to my previous Mio. Good and simple software, menu, but have to admit I did like Mio Map v.3 software more... Besides, it has no full digit UK postcode... (read more)
