I've been using mutants since they launched. I'm on my second 5/4, have a 4/3 and even an early 3/2. They have all fitted well, been flexible and durable. The 4/3 was a limited run technobutter suite which I used through 8 months of the year for 3 years and it's finally worn out I sold my old 5/4 and got a new 5/4 which is made of ultrastretch DS. Not as flexible as the tb suit but more than flexible enough and a bit warmer (has TB in the body). I've also invested in a hyperflex 4/3 which is super stretchy to replace my old mutant 4/3. All in all great suits, well made. I'm sure they'll switch to tb3 in a couple of years which will make them even better. Best value for quality avaliable.

I have a medium sized suit and although it is fairly tight around the neck I love the suit as it's warm and keeps cold water out. I use this in the very very cold water of the Atlantic off of Nova Scotia, Canada.I have Been Body boarding in water around 38 degrees and have been able to stay in a considerable amount of time ( With gloves and booties of course!) If you look after the suit it will last! Highly recommend.

Really warm suit but after one season the leg seams went first-lots of the black stuff and patches for repairs. Now the neck has gone totally unrepairable. Rubbish durability.

Really warm suit and super stretchy. The hood/neck seal idea is good but you can get flushing through the quite short zip system when using the hood. Overall very warm in uk winter (sea temps 7-8 degrees C)BUT seams and edges started to part and fray within 6 months and I'm spending a fortune on black gue stuff to stick patches of old suit over the rips. It'll keep me going another season- just I hope.

was a great suit in the beggining i have it for about 3 or 4 months ivebeen wearing it about once a week or twice a weak and the materials on the inside are garbage! yeh its super stretchy but from normal wear and tare the inside layers are stretching to the point where its getting ripped thats not suppose to happen to a 350 dollar suit or even a 100 dollar suit at the end of the day it keeps you nice and toasty in any weather but why the hell do oniel deserve credit for that thats what its suppose to do the key would be to use better quality materials for the inside layers so they dont rip on you after 4 uses!!! i wish i knew this would happen before because it would be worth the extra 150 bucks to get a suit that wil llast

Used this for the last couple of days West Coast of Ireland. Superb suit, better than my old psycho ii which was the best i ever had before. It is the devil to get out of though, and can get really painful if you're a fat old fella like myself. Surprisingly light, virtually no water flush. Hood works well, though i hate wearing hoods. Would recommend as main winter suit...

o'neill mutant wetties are bad!! complete waste of money!! flush through the entry system because o'neill didn't see fit to use elastic draw string!! had to sow some in myself. all the seams fell apart after 18 months. granted when new it was warm and comfortable but that only lasted 6 months!! if you want a decent wettie buy an e-bomb!! same price, last way way way longer, lighter and way more stretchy!!!

I grew up near Santa Cruz and I hated Oneil wetsuits because I found them to be too trendy with features that didn't work or last. I love the front zip approach and Xcel stopped standing by it's products so the local surf shop owner recommended the Mutant. O'neil? No way! He convinced me and I ended up convincing all my friends. Warm, flexible, light, hood or no hood, when it is nearly new you will barely notice water seeping in. It is NOT tough to get into this suit for a normal sized guy. I've had mine for 3+ years and it is finally time to replace. Getting another one.

I'm surprised that so many people have had difficulty getting in & out of this suit. Granted, it takes a little getting used to if you've previously only worn budgie smugglers! I've had suits from nineplus, second skin, billabong, rhino & other o'neills that were all more difficult. V happy with this suit; I've had no flushing, plenty of flexibility, & sessions where the last thing you're thinking about is the suit. Just please GET THE RIGHT SIZE! If it's snug in the shop, remember that it gives 5-6% when it's wet...

I have had the Mutant now for about 18 months and it is definately the best suit i've ever had! The fit of the Mutant is incredible and is superlight and absolutely toasty even in the deepest UK winter. Hardly get a dribble of flush through and any flush you get is wicked away in seconds! Uber flexible and easy to put on with a bit of practise. The hood is awesome, it stays in place and is totally adjustable. The material and design of the Mutant is incredible particularly the neck-seal which is extremely comfortable and doesn't choke you like some other top-range front zippers on the market. As mentioned before, the wicking action of the suit is awesome and the ankle cuffs are super snug but allow water to be wicked away preventing the old 'bag' effect in the lower leg like so many other suits. The kneepads are another standout feature and are tough as hell and are in the same condition as when i bought it. The Mutant is bomb proof and has survived being dumped on Porthleven reef several times and various impacts with my own board with only the slightest of marks on the suit, even though my knee, ribs and lower back didn't fare so well. Overall I can't reccommend the O'Neill Mutant enough if you want to surf all day and stay warm and dry.

Have used my 5/4 mutant all over the British Isles for the past 18 months, warm hardwearing excellent quality suit. Ideal all year suit for me from Thurso in the depths of winter to the Outer Hebrides in summer on either a sub a fish or a sponge. No complaints & stands up next to my West lotus which is the best suit I've ever owned, make the purchase you could do a lot worse :-).

This is a great wetsuit i use it in cold NY winter water and have been out when it's snowing and the Noreaster. plus for the first 60 min. i thought i was dry then i felt warm water might of been pee though LOL all pro's no cons at all i have the 5/4 model and adore it i would get 6 more if it broke. i have a ripcurl ebomb 4/3 for fall and a ripcurl ebomb 3/2 for late summer and early fall. personally i think for everything this is better than a matuse and should be more money but the less the better!!!

I've had an O'Neill Mutant for the last two years and am getting another. I have yet to see or hear of another suit that is as warm or flexible for the money. The seams are still intact after two years hard use with no signs of cracking or detachment from the neoprene material. It is really comfortable to wear but an absolute b**t**d to get out of, certainly the first few times! The detachable hood is great though I only felt the need to wear it a few times.
Overall it allows you to stay longer in the sea before getting cold, I usually got tired before I got cold. As hinted at, the only downside is getting out of it, it requires practice! Overall an excellent suit and well worth the money!

A good suit, great idea with the ability to change from hooded to no hood. But the neck does not have any ability to tighten, so for me at, least water gets in through the collar bone area. It is very flexible and warm. The opening to get in and out of is smaller than the other chest zip xcel's I've had so I'm kinda worried I might tear it open but hopefully not.

i think it is a good made wetsuit and very good well designed and i like the way you can change the hood of the o'neill mutant

The O'Neill Mutant Wetsuit is super warm. But there was flushing through the zipper after like a week of having it.

The O'Neill Mutant Wetsuit is the best suit I've ever owned by far. Last two suits were pretty good but this blows them away! sooo warm and really flexible, plus can change to a hood if needs be (or soft). Only negative is it's a bit hard to get out of, but still hands down the best suit I've ever owned.

maybe it's just because it's a brand new wetsuit, but my O'Neill Mutant felt more like a dry suit! Didn't get wet for like the first 30 min, then when I finally felt wet, it was warm water. SUPER lightweight & flexible! Super stoked.
Every once in a sesh some cold water will leak into the upper back, guess there's two holes where collier attaches, but still an awesome suit!

The O'Neill Mutant Wetsuit is the best suit I've worn, just need to practice getting out of the mother a little quicker!! It's super warm, firewall back is damn fine. interchangable hood/kneck, overall fit. Closing off zip is set abit to high (down at front just 1 inch would be sweet)
