Good Points: No charges
Bad Points: Security questionable Months to open account
General comments: This review score could have been much higher if (a) they'd opened our account more quickly than 12 weeks. OK, so it was when they first started doing free banking, so there was a stampede... but even so, they did lose our details on THREE occsaions - something to do with an office move? P-l-e-a-s-e!
Then, one day I went to the cash machine only to discover I didn't have over £3k, I actually had - £300. I'd been charged for that too as I have no overdraft facility. How could it have happened? Well, someone in Asia had taken £1.20, £2.40, £1.34, then £800, £800, £800, £800 etc. until it went 'pop!'.
You'd have thought some kind of alarm bell would have sounded, especially as I'd had a couple of phonecalls the month before asking me if I'd just bought something for £60 and £45 on a previous occasion in the U.K.(!!!)
OK, so now we keep all our cash in the savings account and a dribble in the current, so that if we are a victim of fraud again ( it took 2 weeks to get our money back - tough trading times!) it won't be too disastrous.

I bank with HSBC, Barclays, Egg, Smile and Abbey. They give the best rates, but are by far the worst in terms of customer service. Today they sent me a statement with overdraft charges despite the fact that I have never been overdrawn and then were unable to explain why. Whilst on the phone in their branch the customer service chap hung up the phone because he couldn't answer this basic question!

I recently applied for an Abbey National Business Bank Account, being attracted by the great service I get from my personal account & also the free banking for life. I was assured that there won't be a problem setting this up so I went on & bought a new company domain, which I have to pay for for 2 years, changed payment methods etc on my internet services & terms & conditions etc, only to be told today that the application is declined because they won't give bank accounts for people who trade o ...

I am in the process of finding another bank after 12yrs with Abbey. Over the last year they have:
Given only 4 days notice that they are taking a charge from account leaving me £70 worse off. (The advisor in the banking centres cannot always see pending charges, and letters are not always sent advising you that you have been charged!)
They informed me that they will refund the charge - and then never!
They have ignored questions on my complaint letters, only answering the easy ones!
I ha ...

I'm not sure if you get what you pay for but I feel that in business, the services you use have to respond to your business needs quickly and efficiently and Abbey Business Banking certainly fails on all counts.

We have all our accounts with Abbey including mortgage, two business and two current accounts. Both the business and personal side have seriously let us down.
Business banking took over a month to get a new debit card to us and we were unable to use our business account for that period of time.
Complete lack of customer service and inability to relay correct information.
We are moving all our business from Abbey after 20 years with them.

Shockingly bad service ! Abbey National Business Bank Account is the worst customer service ever experienced .They lost my foreign transaction and 'forgot 'to tell me ..and it took weeks of battling for me to find out this happened ..DO NOT JOIN !!!! They all contradict each other and have little or no training ..you can hear panic in their voices when you ask them something out of the ordinary! Oh and it took months to open in the beginning!

I would strongly recommend not to use the Abbey Bank Business Account services.
It is practically impossible to get them to follow the simplest instruction. For Example, Due to our Financial Director leaving the business ( in a not very amicable way), I asked them to change the postal address of the company last December. Shortly after that I requested a new cheque book online. After waiting for two weeks, I called them to report it missing and asked them to check the address to which it had be ...

We now always bank our cheque at the cash machine.
I think they have recently deleted the option to get Customer services to call you free and you have to now call 0845 or 0870 numbers.
Tip. The international number to call ABBEY - its cheaper

Awful customer service. They "lost" a CHAPS payment to my account. Furthermore their customer service team have advised me that it can take up to 8 weeks to investigate this matter!!! Apparently their investigations department don't have any phones in the room either and the only method of communication is e-mail. Once this debacle has been sorted I shall be changing banks

When it works it's fine but when it doesn't you get absolutely nowhere and they don't appreciate you're trying to run a business whilst trying to resolve problems that they initiated! No one seems to take ownership, some of the telephone operators are useless but insist they have 100% confidence that we'll get what we need etc and just don't listen when you have proof that nothing at all happens when you need a problem to be resolved. Aaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggghhhhhhhhh!!!

Beware! If you use the free envelope that they provided for your cheque deposit, it can be lost during the mail, and Abbey won't take responsible for it. Why can't they make this clear and avoid confusion?

Well, they keep changing their phone numbers. They hide behind an 0870/0845 number which most mobiles don't allow or include and of course you cant call from abroad. You cant call them out of hours if you want to stop a cheque or you lose your card because they advise you to call their main abbey call centre whose systems don't allow them to access any business stuff. If you do get through to Glasgow, they're polite. If you need any 'cash' services i.e getting a float for some change they dont want ...

After ten years as a sole trader I decided it was about time I opened a separate business account. Having been told it would take a few days to open, it took about a month. Although I can pay in cash through holes in the wall, these do not always work and Abbey are not prompt in renewing cards. So I pay a price for having interest paid on my current account.

What really made me laugh is the little business booklet they have (you can pick it up from your local branch) there's loads of "helpful" advice and a good scattering of quotes from businesses who use Abbey, talking about the invaluable help their personal business advisor gave them. Do they actually exist?

Free Banking that costs you the earth!!
I am out here after 2 years. It takes far to long to clear funds. Could not transfer funds via visa from Lloyds to my business account, this meant I went overdrawn and incurred charges. Customer service no one appears to know what they are doing. Messed up my visa cards many times.

After applying to open the account I had to wait weeks for the account to be opened, cheques I have paid in have taken up to two weeks to clear causing me to go overdrawn for which they are happy to charge me £30 each time and push the blame on to royal mail for not delivering on time. The cynic in me thinks Abbey is probably using this business to generate loads of cash by not processing cheques / cash in time to cover payments. Why does it take 3 days for a cash deposit to clear ?!!! wher ...

I had a large foreign currency cheque, I asked how to cash it, they sent me a Foreign Currency Acceptance Form and instructed I send it to Prescott Street in London. Weeks later I call, as the money has not entered my account. Abbey National say I should have sent it to Glasgow, therefore it is lost. They make no attempt to contact London to find it, they insisted I have the cheque stopped and start again. I incur costs for phoning the foreign country, and I am charged for stopping the cheque, l ...
