    Good Points: No

    Bad Points: Yes

General comments: I don't like the fact that Sony DVP-NS300 cannot read DiVix , MPG4 < MP3 , and a whole list of other formats of Video files. E-Dubb

Overall I love the machine. I have had it now almost 6 years and never an issue except those in bad points.

Despite the fact that some owners have been lucky enough to have bought a player that actually works properly, far too many owners have reported the same problem. Avoid this player. It's a shame because the image quality is excellent at this price point. Buyer beware.

I've had this Sony DVP-NS300 DVD player for a couple of years now and have had no problems. Mine plays all kinds of DVD-R and DVD-RW's. It doesn't read CD-R or CD-RW, which I knew before I bought it, but for £60, I can't complain!

I'm surprised by the number of poor reviews of the Sony DVP-NS300 DVD player! I bought mine over two years ago and have had no problems whatsoever. It cost £150 and still consider it an absolute bargain. Image reproduction is superb (for the price) and the noise-reduction facility has three levels of intensity, depending on your personal preference. I would have liked another scart socket, but given the cost, this is only a minor problem.

Purchased from courts just over one year ago. Apart from it's not multi regional and will not play dvd-r or dvd-rw or any kind of writable cd which I suppose I knew when I bought it (what was I thinking). To be fair the picture quality is good if a little dark, but the main problem is it will only play dvd's in perfect condition and then it still skips back to the beginning of the film and quite often pauses at the end of chapters. Basically like anything SONY it's ghastly.

Had my unit 14 mths as good as the day it came out of the box. Will not play recordables or mp3's but the picture is the best I've seen. I have a SONY IDTV DX32 100, so a good picture looks great

We've been having the same problem a lot of others have been complaining about. After just over a year, our player started giving us C:13:00 errors which got more frequent until finally it seemed to tire of even giving us this message and would simply shut down and at the most inconvenient time in a movie (on new and just-cleaned DVDs). Someone else mentioned that dimming the display seemed to work for him. It didn't for us, but then again the display never actually noticeably dimmed. So, I tu ...

For those of you who are seeking a CD-R media that works with the Sony DVP-NS300 unit, you may want to try the following: Memorex: Music CD-R, 32X, 700MB. I have found other CD-Rs that work, and they all have one thing in common: a light-blue dye (recording face/side). Not all 32x use this dye (Cyanine possibly). The Memorex Music CD-R 40x use a different dye, therefore, probably will not work. I purchased the 32x at CompUsa, December 2002. In addition, I have only used these discs for audio p ...

I originally bought my Sony DVP-NS300 DVD player to replace a defunct CD player. Bought as a quality make but basic system by first-timers to world of DVD. Sat in awe of picture quality (1st DVD Vertical Limit). No disappointments over 10 months use, in fact as people who normally go for high-end stuff, this player has satified all expectations except it's inability to recognise PC CD written copies of old LPs etc. However, on purchase this was not a consideration and experimenting with CD-R /RW ...

I purchased this Sony DVP-NS300 DVD player about 10 months ago and it has given me nothing but grief. It froze on the very first DVD that i played and has since skipped and hung on most other DVDs i have played in it, regardless if they are rentals or new from the box. while i swear by Sony products, i will certainly not buy another sony DVD player. I gave it 0 stars for "value for money" becasue seemingly everyone of my movies hangs or skips, thus there is no value there. Just when i r ...

I have had this Sony DVP-NS300 dvd player ever since Christmas 2001 and until recently it was working fine. On some movies that were a little scratched, it started to freeze. Sometimes I had to clean the CD just to get it to play right. Other than that I think it is a good DVD player.

I've had my Sony DVP-NS300 DVD player for 8 months. About 3 weeks ago it just started to skip, jump and freeze all the time. The Sony warranty isn't worth anything at all. I'll never buy another Sony product as long as I live!!!!

If your favourite dvd is Blue Planet you might just like the Sony DVP-NS300 DVD player because blue is the only colour you will see with any vibrancy. Everything else is very washed out. Red and orange tones only show in a very subdued way. I find the picture unwatchable and am going to return mine.

I get a far better picture from Sky digital than on this overpriced Sony DVP-NS300 contraption. At the moment I have a new Dansai 852 alonside this Sony and I would be hard-pushed to differentiate between them in terms of performance, and the Sony cost about double. Guess which one I am taking Back?

Had the sony DVP-NS300 DVD player about 2 months now and am very pleased with it. Has a great picture and sound although the sound output is on the low side requiring the tv to be turned up high, which is okay if you remember to turn it down before going back to normal tv or it blows your ears off. Would like the option to keep time display on screen. The quasi surround output is quite good for a two speaker setup. Build quality is very good at the price all in all a great buy.
