There was a complete lack of equipment to use in this facility, very disappointing & very steep at £30 per month, there don't even have any shower facilities in the club. For the same amount I could have a full membership at one of the local health club chains e.g Nuffield where there are a huge range of equipment to use aswell as spa & pool facilities, at least they have showers. Never try to join this Energie Fitness club at Croydon. I have joined this GYM for 4 months contract and had a very bad experience with the payments and I lost two months fee(80£). As I have to move out of Croydon for few months, I requested to cancel my direct debit instead they had suggested me for Account freezing. I thought this is the best option and requested them to freeze. but they said this is close to the end of the month and cannot be cancelled at this moment. so 40£ was debited... (read more)

While the club itself is fairly basic, I suppose that is to be expected with the price. The changing rooms are often grotty but again, sort of expected. Where this club utterly falls down is when you try to leave them. Having given the one month's notice to the guy at reception - verbally and then writing it on a piece of paper in front of him, I thought that was it... Months later, I am getting numerous calls from their debt collection agency to pay the equivalent of 3.5 months of... (read more)

Firstly, i would like to state my dismay at having to rate this club with 1 star as it is a compulsory field. Ideally id have given it 0. Moving on, there are several points I would like to raise regarding this club. 1) I was originally approached regarding this gym from my own home. Gone 6pm one evening there was a knock on my door to which my husband answered. Once we had established that this was in fact a cold call, i started to chat with the young chap before me. He was pleasant enough... (read more)

Contrary to the previous review, I'll boldly state that I love this club. I work in Seaforth, so it's handy for me, and I wouldn't swap it for a Sefton Council gym, of which there are many nearby. As noted by the previous reviewer, the staff turnover has been exceptionally high over the past two years (not one!), but all staff have been helpful and courteous to me whenever I needed a program review. The current team are lovely and it seems that there is a manager and an assistant manager at... (read more)

Feel sorry for all the poor staff in that place they have been through some wonderful staff that made that place without them the gym wouldn’t have lasted two minutes. Hi. Thank you for your feedback. It's a shame you feel so strongly about our club. As the latest reviewer noted (who brought to my attention your comments), this is not a club for going about your own routine in. Your living room would be ideal for that. It's a club for people who are more discerning. People who want results guaranteed by the brand-standard Empower program that invites members to consider many aspects of their mindset and lifestyle that could influence the outcome of their workouts.
£29 per month is competitive and none of our current members have stated that they feel it is pricey, considering the fact that we offer FREE personal training, a FREE Empower program and a discount in Costa Coffee upstairs. You might well save money at many of our larger competitors, but none will offer the support and general thoroughness of a membership here at Energie. A lot can be achieved in a small club, and we have a constantly rotating and updating book of testimonials found in the members area that can be picked up at any time. Perhaps you missed it.
Feel free to pop down and book yourself in with one of our personal trainers, if you fancy re-assessing your feedback. No membership is required.
Jonathan
Club Manager

Thank you for your reply Jonathon.
When I joined I was paying £34 per month which included 6 Appointments not Personal Training sessions as your staff sold them as - they are not Personal training sessions that is completely different to what your 6 appointments are most of my appointments lasted about 10minutes long and I didn’t get any sort of results.
Also Jonathon I no there has been some changes in the gym recently as I no some of your ex/current members and Iam very saddened to find out that the girl manger(who was about the 5th manager then) has become a victim to your ridiculous. staff turnover she was brilliant!
I didn’t Miss your small testimonial wall Most had (names removed) name on as they where the only staff that cared about what they did. Iam glad that you have started updating it as it always had old dates on with those that had got the best results
I don’t fancy booking in with one of your Fitness Instructors it’s a terrible place
So Jonathon good Luck and please don’t feel the need to reply

Hi.
Your request for me not to respond has been noted, but I nonetheless feel the need to make a few amendments to your message:
* Staff sell the Empower appointments as personal training sessions because they are, in essence, personal training sessions. The full six week course combines one-to-one chats and actual workouts alongside a trainer. It's about the most personal of training that I can think of. The chats are designed to be brief, to keep them entertaining, and following through on them is a requirement on our behalf in terms of remaining faithful to the franchise model. Every Energie Fitness in the country uses the exact same system. I have no influence over it.
Our previous female manager fell victim to nothing whatsoever. She chose to progress to pastures new, so quite how I am accountable for her departure or to blame for succeeding her is beyond me. As an anecdote, our current team members have remained completely stationary for several months.
The current team care very much about the club, as testified by the turnaround the club has been given over the past six months or so. Your desire to, on a public website, personally attack our current staff members and go as far as naming previous staff members, says more about your character than it does about the nature of our club.
For the level of support and friendliness that the club offers, your monthly membership price of £34 was great value, but clearly our effort was wasted on you.
Jonathan.
Club Manager.

In response this is not a personal attack to you or other staff members. This is a review site for people to express their own opinions freely. Iam sorry you took all this to heart. I do feel that as a good judge of Character you should no that criticism should be a learning curve.

Hi, I'm sorry to hear about the stress you are being put under, however a gym contract is a gym contract. No doubt you were given the opportunity to read the contract before you signed it? Therefore this gym has every right to expect you to uphold your part of the bargain. If they have asked for a utility bill (as most gym contracts do) as proof that you have moved then you must supply one (some gyms don't even allow this option!) as you can't surely expect the gym to take your word for it...?
Also, I do think it's unfair that you are villifying this (name removed). She has a job to do, and slamming her on an open review forum is unfair and shameful at best.

Those contracts are not legally binding. There's a directive under EU law called Directive 93/13/EEC on an unfair term in a consumer contract and Article 3 defines an unfair term as;
1. A contractual term which has not been individually negotiated shall be regarded as unfair if, contrary to the requirement of good faith, it causes a significant imbalance in the parties' rights and obligations arising under the contract, to the detriment of the consumer.
2. A term shall always be regarded as not individually negotiated where it has been drafted in advance and the consumer has therefore not been able to influence the substance of the term, particularly in the context of a pre-formulated standard contract.
The fact that certain aspects of a term or one specific term have been individually negotiated shall not exclude the application of this Article to the rest of a contract if an overall assessment of the contract indicates that it is nevertheless a pre-formulated standard contract.
Where any seller or supplier claims that a standard term has been individually negotiated, the burden of proof in this respect shall be incumbent on him.
Unfair terms within the meaning of article 3 include;
a. Inappropriately excluding or limiting the legal rights of the consumer vis-à-vis the seller or supplier or another party in the event of total or partial non-performance or inadequate performance by the seller or supplier of any of the contractual obligations, including the option of offsetting a debt owed to the seller or supplier against any claim which the consumer may have against him;
b. making an agreement binding on the consumer whereas provision of services by the seller or supplier is subject to a condition whose realization depends on his own will alone;
c. permitting the seller or supplier to retain sums paid by the consumer where the latter decides not to conclude or perform the contract, without providing for the consumer to receive compensation of an equivalent amount from the seller or supplier where the latter is the party cancelling the contract;
d. requiring any consumer who fails to fulfil his obligation to pay a disproportionately high sum in compensation;
e. irrevocably binding the consumer to terms with which he had no real opportunity of becoming acquainted before the conclusion of the contract;
f. obliging the consumer to fulfil all his obligations where the seller or supplier does not perform his;

Hi, I'm sorry to hear that you had some issues at this gym. Presumably you/your son read the gym contract that you signed? I would imagine, as with every other gym contract I have ever signed that it was stated within it that the monthly fee would continue to be taken until you told them to stop it? Normally this requires one months notice.
My advice to others (through bitter personal experience) is to NOT cancel the direct debit at the bank until the gym tell you to do so. Doing this could mean you being passed onto debt collectors putting your credit rating at risk.
Failure to read your gym contract before you sign it is unforgivable, and I do think Review Centre would be a hell of a lot quieter if people did just that!!!

I said no because its not my fault you don't check your emails. Also the gym was shut for 11 days in January so I should get a refund. I didn't get a response so I left it. One month later I get a letter from a debt collector with £18 added to the bill. Alot of the perks have gone, but these are the times we live in. The classes are packed with a great atmosphere. I can't comment on the equipment as I only go to classes and use the changing rooms. I don't really hang about for coffee and certainly not free iced water (bring your own or use the water fountain!). The staff at Energie Fitness Wilmslow have become quite lax with no concern for the customers and do not really provide the service you would expect of a membership club. This has seems to have filtered top down from the Wilmslow...

I agree with everything that has been said in this review.

When I sent one of the club Managers Mo Morley an email complaining of the lack of communication to members regarding the early closure hours over Christmas she couldn't care less!

I have even complained to the head office regarding her attitude but they seem just as bad!

I am a member of Nuyuu (Formally LA Fitness) Slough which has now been taken over by this Energie Fitness Clubs and I am less than impressed at the recent take over from what appears to be a shoddy enterprise at best. Reading the reviews here has not put my mind at ease.
The communication has been appalling, and even the staff at the Gym seem to have no idea what is going on.
My contract is due for renewal in the new year, and rest assured I will be switching Gyms.

I don't know what this person from Croydon is moaning about?! I don't normally post reviews but i joined energie recently and thought i'd look to see what reviews they had and was quite surprised to see one or two bad ones. Do these people just like to moan for the sake of moaning??! Personally I think it's a really nice gym and very friendly - that other review is wrong because i always see the staff welcoming their members and they're helpful too. in fact i had an injury when i joined... I only joined energie in Croydon because it was relatively cheap. works out at about £9 per month but I can only use the gym Wednesday to Sunday. Staff are useless and very unfriendly. Men's changing room is dirty and smells. They have some new equipment so tests good and its close to me so convenient for me at least. My biggest gripe is about the staff and how uncaring and unfriendly they all are. (read more)

I have had the same problems as other reviewers on here. I emailed Energie Croydon in April of this year requesting cancellation of my membership due to a change in circumstances. I didn't think this would be a problem as my 12 month contract had already run it's course. My email was ignored so I sent a further email in May which surprise, surprise was ignored. I sent a letter via recorded delivery over a week ago and am yet to hear anything. I am waiting for September's fees to be... (read more)

Joined early this year. i found the better classes are run around 12 until 3pm after that you have very little choice the gym is alright i have been to better, the staff is frienly when you see them most of the time it's like a ghost town in front reception. Do not like the ladies changing rooms too many lockers and not enough showers, saua is small not very good no steam room having problems stopping memebership having phone calls form bullies and treating letters if you want to join a gym... I started of doing the six week membership and I got results. Over the six week period I lost a couple of inches, I feel more fit and relaxed. I have now been at the club for over the last year and with the new facilities it is a great place to work out. (read more)

I signed up for the 6 week empower program which guarantees results. I did the program, saw no results and have not had my money back!!! its a con, the results are what they consider to be a change and not what you would like to see!! although i had no difference at all nothing was mentioned about retrieving my money and have since been told i have not kept up with the program by going 4 times a week when i made it perfectly clear I work and study so can only make 2-3 sessions a week. I was... (read more)

I have been a member of our local Energie Fitness Club for Women in Montrose for several months. The staff are lovely - always friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and welcoming. The facilities are excellent - spotlessly clean, well equipped, comfortable and well maintained. I would highly recommend it, and cannot fault it in any way. I am so glad I joined, I feel much fitter and healthier. Thank you! (read more)

I've just joined energie MK (Milton Keynes) after being at Bannatynes for three years where they treat you like c##p. Since joining energie they have been nothing but great to me and actually say hello when you walk in - they know my name after just three weeks! There is no swimming pool but I never used it anyway but the equipment is fine and does the job - good value for £29 per month! I joined on something called empower that gave me basically six weeks to trial the gym and for joining it... (read more)

you initially think that the low cost is value for money and in their energie clubs (at least the ones I have visited during my travels)it is true - however the 2 'fit4less' clubs (Swindon & Inverness) are a complete waste of money. Their idea of value for money is no service, no staff, no atmoshpere - just a gym. Completely cr*p!!!
the manager and assistant manager from Inverness have already walked out leaving a skeleton staff (there is often only one person on duty throughout your...

I am the manager at the Swindon Fit4less branch, we apparently have spoken before though I don't recall it. Thank you for your comments, however I feel that I must respond. I would have done so via a private email, however you neglected to leave contact details to facilitate a right of reply.

The Fit4less concept, along with the many other "no frills", budget offerings now on the market, runs on a low cost, low staffing budget, therefore you were correct that I am indeed running my club on a "shoestring". This is as per the plan. This makes it possible for the brand to offer a low price, no contract membership that has been widely received, not just in Swindon and Inverness, but globally.

Thank you for your thoughts on my club and the Fit4less brand, however I would recommend doing your homework before jumping onto an anonymous forum to air your views, lest someone feel your comments are unjustified and therefore out of place.

I think you should check your gym contract very carefully!
Every gym I've ever been a member of has requested a letter of cancellation to stop the membership. I think you are getting confused with the contract length and in most cases this will be just the minimum amount of time you have got to be a member - most places will continue after this until you write and tell them to stop.
This should have been explained though - so I'm not jumping to the gyms defence!
