The atmosphere is relaxed and decor very pleasant. I have been here before and found that the evening service is better. Unfortunately, I have had a couple of bad experiences for Sunday Lunch - anaemic roast potatoes and very over done yorkshire puddings. The veggie option on the main menu states it comes served with usual trimmings but was instead brought with hard boiled potatoes and a boring tomatoe sauce. I questioned this when it came and the waitress insisted that it stated on the menu... (read more)

Went for a meal on 28/4/11 and ordered scallops to start, this consisted of 4 tiny scallops no larger than a finger nail in one shell. They were too small to taste and felt completely ripped off and mislead by menu as they were £6.00. The main course of chicken fajita was no better at £12.00 it was definately not worth the money and could have been more inventive. Expressed concerns to management but their attitude reflected the service all night - VERY POOR. Would not recommend to friend... (read more)

It would seem that the "Sunday factor" whereby you go out for a meal on any "special" day (mothers day, Valentines, Sunday lunch etc) is marred by restaurants (and or chefs) being unable of unwilling to put in the effort because "the punters will always turn up anyway" !!! I took my family to the Malt House at Rishworth for Sunday lunch having eaten here on many occasions before, but never on a Suday. Service great, restaraunt great, one meal cold (carvery), one meal uncooked (Risotto), of... (read more)

We have driven past the Malthouse at Rishworth many times but had been deterred from eating there by a couple of poor reviews.
Today we called in for lunch and found that there were only a few seats left, which must be some sort of recommendation considering the competition in this area.
The staff were immediately helpful and were nothing less than professional. The interior is bright, clean and pleasantly decorated. We ordered from the ` two for £10` menu; a Lasagne with garlic bread and a...

I am not sure why people have had bad experiences. I am fussy and I have always eaten well and been looked after well here. We shared a plate of chips the other day and came for a meal a few days later - the service and quality was fantastic. Roaring fire, good food, attentive service and excellent prices. (read more)

Don't eat there on a Tuesday, no one appears to control front of house, the service is terrible and the chef is surely still in training. (read more)

Don't chance it, we have spoken to others who have had a similar poor experience. Food poor, I was looking forward to enjoying a meal as the bar and restaurant felt really good. Unfortunately that was as far as it went, the food was below par (read more)

Did not appear to be a single person in charge when we wanted to return our food as unsatisfactory. We felt the main meal was of a poor standard. We arrived at 4pm and the food looked like it had been around since lunch time. We were all disappointed, not even an apology was received. Would not recommend. (read more)

At The Malthouse 3 out of 4 meals were returned as the beef was tough as a leather boot, none of the party could eat it. Manager only agreed to remove one from the bill. Very disappointed on our 4th visit to this restaurant. The barman appeared in another world, very slow. Would not go again.

Will certainly make a return visit and would highly recommend to others. Excellent table service, nothing too much trouble. Very interesting menu and the food was excellent and value for money, the portions being plentiful and very well presented. (read more)

We left The Malthouse restaurant in Ripponden, West Yorkshire without eating our mains, but they did accept that we wouldn't pay for anything!
Since our visit we have spoken to 2 other groups who had a similar experience.
I would recommend The Old Bore, The Millbank and El Gato Negro, which are all in the same area.

Visited this restaurant for the first time on the 22 of April and was wholly satisfied with every aspect of the visit, staff were friendly and attentive and the food was excellent. I have eaten at many restaurants/pubs and this ranks in the top ten for me.
